5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Value motherboard with those extra features., April 9, 2010

This socket 1156 motherboard is the best value full featured board you can buy if you got a Core i7 860. I installed Core i7 860 along with 8GB of Corsair XMS3 RAM and had no problem booting up and installing windows7 64bit. I installed the latest bios 806 by downloading the latest Asus updater utility from Asus website very simple to use from windows no DOS B.S. I set the "CPU level up" in the Bios to the highest setting and kept my ram running very close to its rated 1600mhz and everything else to auto also enabled the "Intel Speed Step" and Turbo mode and CPU/RAM voltage was still kept stock automatically by the BIOS. Booted to Windows7 then went to ASUS website and downloaded ASUS EPU utility and ran the calibration. Now when I am just browsing web and doing normal stuff my CPU runs at 1.4Ghz when I encode videos all four cores run at 3.63Ghz!. It has all the connections one could ask for USB 2.0, USB 3.0, SATA 3Gb/s, SATA 6Gb/s I think it has more than 8 SATA ports an IDE port and if you happen to own one of those unsupported RAM then just hit and hold the MEM OK button on the board and it'll boot to the BIOS for you to manually set the RAM a very useful feature which I didn't need since my Corsair RAM was compatible even with older BIOS. I am powering this board with a OCZ Mod-X 700Watts power supply, Corsair H50 Hydro CPU Liquid Cooler and Zotac 240GT 512MB DDR5 video card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic motherboard, March 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MB P7P55D-E PROLGA11564DDR3(Dual Channel)16G (Personal Computers)
Background:
I recently upgraded to a Core i7 860 and needed a motherboard. Now that USB 3.0 and SATA 6 are starting to become available, I wanted one that would support these new technologies.

Components used with it:
Core i7 860
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Crucial 2x2GB DDR3 RAM
MSI Geforce 260 GTX
OCZ Vertex 120GB
Samsung F3 1TB
Silvertsone ST60F

Pros:
- USB 3.0 and SATA 6 with no reduction in PCIe x16 slot speed
- silent
- excellent board layout - side facing IDE and SATA slots help with cable management, able to fit large heat sinks
- ASUS specific convenience features like the easy installation RAM slots and PCIe x16 slots, clearly labeled back plate, easy front panel and USB port connectors
- includes 2 side connecting SATA cables
- easy overclocking
- diagnostic lights

Cons:
- expensive for a P55 motherboard (although not for one with USB 3.0 and SATA 6)
- only 3 powered and BIOS controlled FAN slots ( 1 slot is powered and monitored but not BIOS controlled)
- no floppy connector and only 1 PATA connector. Not really a con, just thought to mention this.

Summary:
One of the least expensive P55 boards with USB 3.0 and SATA 6. Easy to install, excellent board layout, extensive BIOS and overclocking options round out a well balanced motherboard. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars This motherboard is terrific, March 28, 2010

I have had this motherboard for a couple of weeks, and my overall impression is very positive. I don't do much overclocking, but the board has performed very well with all of my programs. One area really stands out, though: I do use iTunes quite a bit, and I've never heard better sound than this board produces. It's outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful reliable mobo, July 6, 2010

This review is from: MB P7P55D-E PROLGA11564DDR3(Dual Channel)16G (Personal Computers)
Important thing 1st: this is a super reliable motherboard, I installed two of them, in diff builds,
they are extremely reliable, experienced zero problem.
I tried some diff models of Asus & Gigabyte mother boards recently,
both are solid products, but Asus seems to have little better software, boot up faster.
Only con: only one eSata connector in the back, although if your case have eSata connector, you can plug in mobo
to get more than one eSata connector, but Gigabyte has two eSata in the back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Board, March 27, 2011

I used this board in a build I did six months ago and wanted to wait to see how things worked out before posting anything. The board is nicely designed and easy to use, even for 61 year old guys who get a little stressed when building a pc. Very easy to see the labeling on the board, in contrast with my last build with an Asus board that was a nightmare in seeing labels for connections. Absolutely no problems in six months of use. Have no idea about customer support as I have not needed it. Board is not cheap but is good value for performance and quality of manufacture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Features for my application, January 27, 2011

This review is from: MB P7P55D-E PROLGA11564DDR3(Dual Channel)16G (Personal Computers)
I decided to build a 'high end' workstation with a board that had features that would allow me to grow into the future. this board had good reviews and i especially liked the packaged software that lets me know what is going on inside the pc. with an i5 processor and 4gb(plan going up 4 more)performance is more than adequate for my needs. i do not overclock so standard cpu cooling works fine, especially with the 3 fans that came with my case. watch out for this one: i installed 2 hard drives and microsoft loaded a driver acs 6xxx that thinks i'm using raid. it caused my pci ports(strange)to not be recognized by the cpu until i removed it. this driver problem is common in the asus motherboard forum and seems to cause a variety of problems. since this was my first cpu build, i found the documentation incomplete and had to look for clarification on install points and drivers in other forums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Board, January 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MB P7P55D-E PROLGA11564DDR3(Dual Channel)16G (Personal Computers)
I have had Asus MB's before with success but this board bests them all. I upgrade systems about every 2 years and when I wanted to go to a i-Core 5 or 7 I began the hunt for a MB. I came across this board actually via Amazon reviews and then continued to explore. This is the board I ended up with. It matches the outstanding reviews given by people who are using it. The only really tricky part is making sure the ram you install is correct, which is true for most high end MB's. My system is up and it's fantastic. I would highly recommend this MB to anyone.

This otherwise very good motherboard loses a star because of the incredibly annoying high-pitched whine it generates unless one of the power save features is turned off in BIOS. I returned it once, only to find that the replacement (from an entirely different production batch) had the same problem. Clearly a design issue, but not a deal breaker since the feature in question isn't really necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars MISSING CONTENTS, August 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MB P7P55D-E PROLGA11564DDR3(Dual Channel)16G (Personal Computers)
The user's manual page 2-34 has details of IEEE 1394A connector and on page 2-35 USB connectors, these are missing from the package contents.

What is the point of having the installation instructions if these connectors are missing. It is very confusing to figure out that these instructions are just for nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work at all, March 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MB P7P55D-E PROLGA11564DDR3(Dual Channel)16G (Personal Computers)
Wouldn't load at all for me.

While I'd like to believe that it was just one of those freak occurrences where the item I received happened to not work, unfortunately after a little research it seams all too common that this board has very poor quality control.

Upon putting my new system together I hit the power switch with excitement only to find a solid bright red CPU led and nothing else. After trying everything I could think of to test what part might have been in error I was able to narrow it down to either the mobo, the power supply or the CPU. I went to Fry's, got a lower tier Gigabyte board, kept everything else the same and my new machine loaded perfectly.

It's a real shame to, I loved the lay out of the board, it looks fantastic and it comes with lots of stuff, (in box speaker, 2 sata 6 cables, 2 sata and 2 sata right angle cables and the little adapter for your case lights to name just a few) but if it doesn't work none of that matters. I'm sure i'll continue to try ASUS products in the future as I think they are designed very well but I'll be sticking to local retailers or direct from Amazon (not marketplace vendors, as the shipping and restocking fees make it not worthwhile if the item is dead on arrival.)

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this board, but others are pleased so take it all with a grain of salt. With the 1155 chipset rebuilds about to hit the market there's no real reason to want an 1156 mobo anyway.
