My daughter had been after me for quite a while for a Doodle Monster. She wanted one for Christmas, and when she didn't get one then she wanted one for her birthday. I finally broke down and got it for her. She loves it. I let her draw on it all week and then I wash it every Saturday when I normally do laundry. So far we haven't had any problems with her writing on anything else (I threatened to take the Monster away if she did). She has fun drawing all kinds of things on the Monster. It has been washed many times now and it is holding up well. If you have a responsible child that knows rules about what they can and can not draw on, then this toy is great.

The kids asked for this incessantly before Christmas. They opened it immediately when they got it but only played with it twice. I thought theyd be more interetsted since they both love to draw. It does wash exactly as its supposed to however there should be a pocket on the bears and monsters to store the markers so they dont get separated and lost.

Better than I expected!,

I bought a Doodle Monster for my son's third birthday. He fell instantly in love with it! I was surprised at how much time he spent "decorating" it right after he opened it--in order to minimize mess, the rule is that he has to sit and the table with the markers. He won't let me wash the doodle montster yet, so I can't comment on durability. But, the fun factor is pretty good, and better than I had expected!

My son had been asking for a doodle monster for ages, and I am so pleased with it. He loves it and it is so easy to clean so he can start all over again. Now he can keep up with his sister and her doodle bear.

"Doodle Monster Sketch" is one of the many popular "Doodle Bear" stuffed toys made by Play Along. All these toys come with two markers for drawing on the toys which can be washed clean with soapy water. My five-year-old son was so jealous of his friend's Doodle Bear that we had to get him one of his own, but in the crazier "Monster" model. He loves drawing all sorts of patterns on it, and when he wants to start over, he puts it in the wash with the rest of his laundry.
My son was happy with the toy, so I didn't give it another thought until one weekend afternoon when I woke up from a nap, went to the bathroom, and found strange markings on my face. Because the designs were similar to those I saw on the Doodle Monster, I knew who the culprit was. After washing off the markings, I asked my son if he had drawn on my face, and he laughed and said no. I asked him if he was lying, and then he changed his mind and said yes. I patiently explained to him that drawing on the Doodle Monster was perfectly fine, but that drawing on real people was not. My son nodded and then went to his room. I thought I had the problem fixed, but then got an unexpected phone call from my son's kindergarten teacher. She asked to speak with me and my wife about our son, and could we come after school. I said yes, of course, and my wife and I went to our son's classroom later that afternoon and listened with unease as our son's teacher explained to us that he had drawn on the other kids during nap time while she was in the rest room. I didn't have to ask our son if it was true, and I sheepishly explained to the teacher my previous encounter with my son's artistic freedoms and promised her it wouldn't happen again. On the drive home, my wife and I gave our son a very stern lecture about the inappropriateness of drawing on people, and he seemed genuinely humbled and chastised. We told him that if it happened again, we would have to punish him. Several days passed without incident until one morning when I woke up, looked over at my wife, and saw that someone had drawn curlicues all over her face. I shook her awake and she looked at me and asked why I had drawn on my face. "My face?" I told her, "you should look at your own face!" Well, we knew right away who was responsible, and immediately woke and confronted our son. He seemed genuinely upset and told us he couldn't help himself, that "Doodly Monster" was in the wash and he had no other choice. Rather than punish him, we sent him to a psychiatrist for evaluation, and he told us that our son was suffering from Anthropomorphic Graffiti Addiction, in which he suffered from a compulsion to draw on people or people-shaped objects. We asked him if the Doodle Monster Sketch could have caused this, but he assured us that the toy was merely an outlet for this disorder of unknown etiology. In fact, the psychiatrist recommended we provide even more Doodle Sketch toys as healthy outlets for our son's compulsion. "But won't that feed his addiction?" we asked. "Yes and no," he answered, "Anthropomorphic Graffiti Addiction, or AGA, has no cure, and trying to curb your son's compulsion will only force him to find other, less acceptable means of expressing himself." Our son now has several Doodle Sketch toys which we wash in rotations so that he always has a clean one handy when his urges strike. My wife and I have accepted our son's condition, and we thank Play Along for providing an acceptable outlet for our son's AGA. |
