5.0 out of 5 stars Stopped Chewing
I've been using DAP for a couple of years now & it really works for behavioral problems. My dog is a chewer & chews furniture/carpet when we leave her alone. The DAP helps alleviate her anxiety & she doesn't chew anymore. I wondered for the longest if the product really worked or if it was a coincidence, but whenever I run out of the pheromone she starts chewing again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pheromones for dog
Hi -- This is the second dog I've tried this product with. The first showed absolutely NO difference in behavior, with or without. Our present dog calms a LITTLE, but the difference isn't remarkable. I've heard they do great things for some dogs, but evidently mine are not among them.

5.0 out of 5 stars When nothing else helped D.A.P. really worked!, June 9, 2008

My mom's Shih Tzu, Candy, was having anxiety attacks, especially at night. Thunder storms and loud noises bothered her, and sometimes we didn't know what had caused an attack. She wanted my mom to hold her constantly. Those times were very stressful for my 76 yr. old mom. The vet suggested different types of medication which helped at times, then she told my mom about D.A.P. and it relieved Candy's symptoms the best. We could even tell when the refill was getting low by the way Candy acted. The vet charged twice the amount so I searched Amazon. Thanks so much for a great product, and the lowest price we have found.

5.0 out of 5 stars Try This First Before Moving On To Medication, April 21, 2010

This review is from: 3 PACK D.A.P. Dog Appeasing Pheromone REFILL (144mL) (Misc.)
My poor dog Chuck suffers from several noise anxiety issues and other behavioral issues. My vet suggested that I try the D.A.P. (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) Collar for Puppies and Small Dogs - 15" first ( I also added the DAP Dog Appeasing Pheromone Electric Diffuser (48 mL)), before moving onto Prozac. There were several issues I needed to address.

1. I have set the the fire alarm off on a few occasions while cooking, so now when ever I cook, Chuck becomes nervous and scared up to the point where he is panting and shaking like a vibrator. He usually exits the house through the dog door.

2. If our power goes off he instantly begins shaking and panting.

3. He has developed an issue with the dog door, it takes multiple tries before he makes it through.

4. He recently started urinating on the carpet, instead of going outside.

5. He has restless sleep at night.

Well as soon as I started using the D.A.P collar, I saw immediate improvement. Chuck has yet to start panting or shaking like he used to when I am cooking. The situation with the dog door has improved. He has yet to urinate on the carpet. He now sleeps the whole night through. On a couple of occasions while sleeping, I have heard him suckling. It has not cure him, but it has taken a lot of the edge off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calmed my timid pup, April 11, 2009

I bought this product because my 5 month old Cane Corso was terrified of her new home and everything around her. I could not get her to walk around at all. She would lay in the corner shaking all day long (for a week until I got this). Within an hour of plugging this in she worked up the nerve to stand up and take a couple of steps towards me. Things just got better from there. I used this product for 3 months (with refills) and never had to use it again. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a problem getting a puppy to adjust to a new area. I am not sure how it works for adults but I think for a puppy being able to smell a mother dogs pheromones is enough to put them at ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems to be working!, June 7, 2011

I have an English Mastiff that is (was) deathly afraid of thunder or anything else that makes a popping sound for that matter. He usually starts shaking, pacing & panting and tries to hide when a storm rolls in. My vet has prescribed valium for him which doesn't even seem to touch his anxiety. I was very skeptical about the effectiveness of D.A.P., but was willing to try just about anything to help ease his anxiety. Since using the D.A.P. plug-in, (about a month) he is quite a bit more at ease during storms. I put the plug-in in a central area on my 1st floor, which is quite large by the way. I wondered if it would cover the square footage of three large rooms enough to be effective. It's either pure coincidence or the D.A.P. has really helped! Either way, my dog, Dozer, is still very wary when it storms, but he no longer shakes and he doesn't pace as much. He still pants, but much less than before. The plug-in lasted only about 3 weeks, but I've purchased refills along with a second plug-in for good measure and to help cover more area. I also purchased the spray which, as others have mentioned, smelled very strongly of alcohol. I sprayed it on some pillows where my dog usually sleeps and he avoided them after sniffing them. He DID return to them after the alcohol smell had evaporated which was fairly quickly. It's still possible that the pheromones in the spray could have worked though. So, it's either a coincidence that Dozer is more mellow during storms, or, just perhaps, the D.A.P. is working. I'll continue to use it for now and monitor his level of stress throughout the summer thunderstorm season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Product!!!, January 7, 2011
This review is from: 3 PACK D.A.P. Dog Appeasing Pheromone REFILL (144mL) (Misc.)
I have a small epileptic dog who has had horrible anxiety and submissive urination problems. It's so sad and frustrating. Mostly, you even can't touch him without him urinating. He has had multiple accidents every single day for as long as I can remember. I order the DAP diffuser, hoping for some marginal improvement in my dog's anxiety level. I just plugged the diffuser in 3 days ago...what a miracle! His anxiety seems to be gone and he hasn't urinated in the house one time since the diffuser was plugged in. I'm really blown away!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very skeptical, but this worked for our dog, September 30, 2011

This review is from: 3 PACK D.A.P. Dog Appeasing Pheromone REFILL (144mL) (Misc.)
Your mileage may very, it seems that this product either works, or doesn't, with really nothing in between, but it worked for me so I recommend trying it.

DAP and it's counterpart FELIWAY were recommended to me as a way of helping animals deal with stress. We have a rescue dog who is adapting to a house with 2 cats who have had full-claim of their home for several years. Both sides are stressed at the changes and have been showing it in various ways.

Our puppy is crated to sleep, and usually likes her little den and bed. During the night, though, she will bark, yip, and whine for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, 3 or 4 times per night. We've gone up to 4 hours straight of barking right in the middle of the night. Any time there's so much as a strong breeze which shifts the house she'll start up. We're afraid to get up for water or anything like that because any noise (or sometimes even no noise) will set her off.

I can't overstate how skeptical I was about this product, but this was a last-ditch effort to save my sanity so I figured it couldn't possibly hurt. I plugged this thing in right above her crate. For the last couple weeks it has been running non-stop and there hasn't been a single incident of mid-night barking. Not a single one. No whining, no yips, no howls, it's like we have a new dog.

To take this a step further, normally if someone walks near her crate after she's been sleeping for a bit she'll jump up and start hopping around in there. She'll bark if you don't come let her out. She actually destroyed one crate this way, and has broken several of the metal bars on her newest crate. This morning I walked right past her den and she stood up, yawned, realized I wasn't coming over to her, and lay right back down calmly. She waited that extra minute until I came over to let her out, then stepped out slowly, no mad bull-rush out the door.

I'm still skeptical, part of me can't help but feel that this must be coincidence, but I'm willing to pay for a monthly refill if only for my peace of mind. I highly recommend trying this product out if you have a hyper or stressed out dog, it's saved my sanity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stopped the barking, August 14, 2011

We adopted a Chihuahua/Terrier mix last year. Although she's not a barker when we are home the upstairs neighbor notified us that she was barking when we left for work. I had tried using balls filled with treats, leaving the radio on, going for long walk before leaving, using a vet directed program of Valerian/melatonin regimen, AND had plugged in one of the D.A.P. devices.

One by one we were eliminating the things from the list of possible remedies to see what stopped the barking and am convinced it's the D.A.P. plug in devices.

We use a voice-activated tape recorder to monitor the amount of barking. Now I can say with confidence that on a normal day she may bark between 2-10 times per day.

We are happy with the product and will continue to use it.

It's a little pricey, but it's worth it not to have experience the anxiety of whether she's bothering the neighbors while we are at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly effective, August 25, 2010
This review is from: 3 PACK D.A.P. Dog Appeasing Pheromone REFILL (144mL) (Misc.)
Like others I had my doubts this would work. My dog gets anxious when I leave for work for the day and I would have to leave him in his crate to prevent any chewing. With this I was able to leave him in my room with no ill effects. I wondered if it was my dog being good or the product - when the diffuser ran out he went back to chewing - replacement vial and everything was back to good for full length work days. WELL WORTH the money to have a calm dog during the day.

My only complaint is that the vials are advertised as up to 4 weeks, yeah, more like 3 for me after two have lasted about that length.
