It fit perfectly on my Panasonic Lumix DMC LX7.

It's a nerve wracking job to remove the lens ring on the LX7 to be able to install this lens cap but with some determination the ring will come out.
Floyd Goodrich
Makes using camera so much easier and that annoying lens cap on a string gone forever.

This automatic lens cap works well, just as the ones on the LX3 and LX5 did. Once you know how it goes on, it's actually much better than the threaded caps for the earlier models.

On the end of the lens HOUSING for the LX7 (not the lens, the outer housing) there's a thin knurled ring just past the aperture ring. If you grasp that thin ring and give it about 1/6 turn counterclockwise (rock it a little if it doesn't want to turn), it will come off so you can install the lens cap. After it stops turning counterclockwise, just pull outward lightly and rock it a bit. It's a quick-release bayonet-type connection, not a threaded connection.

Some of the online forums have made this confusing, as they refer to it as a threaded ring at the end of the lens. DON'T twist the extended lens, you'll possibly damage it. The lens housing is what holds this ring (see the photo I posted on the auto lens cap page). It is not threaded, and twisting hard shouldn't be necessary, just twist lightly but firmly counterclockwise and rock it back and forth if it doesn't turn at first. The ring has little notches so you can get a good grip.

Most of us early LX7 owners thought they would not be able to make an auto cap for this, since no one knew about the ring coming off. I was happy to see that this was available and that it does work; even though it's not as much protection as the stock lens cap against dust etc., it's much more convenient and quick when you need it.

I am using these unique lens caps, purchased at Amazon, on a Panasonic DMC LX5 and DMC LX7. This lens cap is perhaps the best I have ever used in 40+ years of photography. IMHO, point & shoot cameras, small in design, present more challenges in taking the lens cap on and off than larger DSLRs. There's more to grab onto with the larger cameras. This lens cap is attached permanently to the lens by carefully removing the front retaining ring of the lens. I know it may sound silly, but I used a solid-piece jar top opener to gently remove the front retaining ring of each lens. (I also placed each individual front retaining ring in a separate ZipLock bag and put a label on each bag.) After removing the retaining ring, screw on the lens cap and don't over tighten. It is a little difficult to get the threads lined up, at least is was for me with both cameras. Now you never have to worry about removing the lens cap or putting it back on because the lens pushes open the three pie-shaped sections of the lens cap at start up and the 3 pieces go back down to protect the lens when the camera is turned off. There is no vignetting, and the opening and closing of the lens cap doesn't hurt the lens. I was out in a boat doing a photography job for a web site in the Intracoastal Waterway between Boynton Beach and Jupiter, FL several days ago. When I wasn't shooting, or when some waves were coming our way, I simply turned off the LX5 and the lens cap immediately protected the lens. I purchased several leather cases for my two LX 5s, and they covered the lens cap beautifully. The cap is slightly larger for the Panasonic LX7 and I am going to purchase an additional case that will accept the larger size. When I find one, I will post it on this review.

This cover makes it easier to handle the camera, I will admit since you don't have to remove and put the lens cover like you do with the default one. However, the moment I placed it on the camera, the lens was visible through the inter-flap cracks. I don't want any dust to settle on the lens, so I restored the original cover. What would be desirable is a cover with flaps overlapping each other, implying that there is no visible inter-flap space which means lesser chance of dust entering the lens-cover.

I bought a similar lens cap for my Lumix LX5 and while I appreciated the convenience, I grew to hate the fact that this design is incapable of sealing out dust. Caveat emptor. I switched back to the manual lens cap.

I purchased this for my new Panasonic DMC-LX7 camera. This is such a great little invention! It opens and closes automatically when the camera is turned on or off. It allows the user to avoid having to use and constantly remove or replace the lens cap that comes with the camera. As a note however, the Panasonic case made to fit the camera does not accommodate the increased diameter of this lens cap. If I'd known this, I would have skipped buying the case and purchased just this lens cap and found another case. Goja, the supplier, was terrific with immediate response offering tips and instructions for how to remove the camera's retainer ring in order to seat the lens cap, which is a little tricky. Also recommended is a Youtube video [...]

I got this cap yesterday, mounted it- I had to gently use a rubberized jar opener to remove the retaining ring from my LX7. From that point installation was easy, screw it on until clicks in place. It is indeed a very nice product, so far working nicely, adding some bulk to the lens but not much..
I think though with this model of camera there is one downside- Lumix LX7 has this nice ring to control the aperture. this cap has three protrusions housing the hinges for the little leaves that open. These knobs interfere somewhat with my fingers operating the aperture ring- it is still possible, maybe takes some getting used to, but for now I can't enjoy operating this essential camera ring, which is a pleasant tactile experience without the cap.
I am not sure if I am going to use it because of this or stick with original lens cap.
