Good or bad news first...?

Okay, here's the good (a.k.a. why 'I' bought this)

In theory, what a great product idea! A rather unobtrusive set of steps to mitigate the jumps up and down from a bed for your beloved furry friend, sounds good to me...

However, there is much to be desired and in our case the general construction and over all disregard to proper engineering of the product was the culprit. Let's run through the bad...

*Poor choice of wood (presumable bass wood)

*Improper sized hinges which are supposedly capable of withstanding 80lbs of pressure (curious as to where this abstract number came from...our 27lb french bulldog was able to snap two out of the three hinges in less than two weeks. "Durable wood construction?" Please elaborate on this...

*$50 pricepoint for this garbage?..."What kind of margins can we make on a step ladder for dogs?" Clearly this was your only concern. Guess what your general demographics concerns were when they decided to buy your unsafe product...their dog.

My fiancé and I both witnessed our dogs reaction as the stair collapsed from under his paws, pure fright, he was scared sh*&less. And to that point, even if the 'ramp' version of this worked (angle is too steep to climb/traverse down) he wouldn't touch it with a 30' pole.

Would most definately not recommend this product to anyone concerned for the well being of their dog/cat/etc...which one can only assume would be you reading this review.

I purchased these stairs for my 8 year-old Yorkie-Chihuahua mix to help him get up and down from the bed as he has a bad knee. He only weighs 19 lbs., which is huge for his breed, but still much smaller than the quoted weight limit of 80 lbs. After less than two weeks of use, the wood supporting the bottom stairs snapped in half just above the hinge as he was stepping onto it. The screws on the hinge were also pulled out of the wood. This product is very poorly made. I'm thankful my dog wasn't hurt, but I imagine that he could have been if one of the top two stairs had broken while he was standing on it. I will be requesting a refund. Absolutely DO NOT BUY!

Fell apart literally on the first time our dog walked up them, the first two bottom stairs just broke off. This is one of the worst made products I have ever seen.

This is very sturdy and well covered to prevent slips but we needed the ramp and the top could use hooks or something to keep it moored.

The concept is awesome--the stairs look good and they fold away. However, like others, I've found the construction to be severely lacking. The product states that it has an 80 lb weight limit. The dog who uses the stairs is 35 lbs and the one who rarely uses them is 30--so clearly, we've not exceeded any weight limits even with maximum dog usage. Imagine my surprise when 2 months after purchasing this product, the riser for the top step just snapped in half when my dog stepped on it. The surprise of the step giving out like it did caused him to fall off the stairs and land on his back. I got this because he has a very high risk of developing back issues in the future. This fall was worse for him than the 2 months of not jumping up and down off the bed was good for him.

Very nicely put together. The only draw back is the steps themselves. They rest on the riser and if the step is bumped, it has a tendency to fall. Not a big deal, just inconvenient.
