Review

"If you're a football fan (and even if you're not), you're going to love this great read. Fast-paced, it's got the right mix of good guys, bad guys, evil rich guys, Mafia guys, retired Miami Beach Jewish bookies, and a good selection of spoiled and overpaid football players. Something for everyone!" - Amazon 5-star review

"Football and the Super Bowl get the Levine treatment. Being Canadian and not really a football fan, this story about the  game being destroyed by owners and criminal players protected by shady team lawyers, is food for thought." - Amazon 5-star review

More About the Author

PAUL LEVINE is best known for two series of legal thrillers: "Jake Lassiter" and "Solomon vs. Lord." His newest novel, the national bestseller "Bum Rap," brings together the protagonists of both series in an explosive murder case set on glitzy South Beach.

"The pages fly by and the laughs keep coming in this irresistible South Florida crime romp. A delicious mix of thriller and comic crime caper." - Booklist (starred review)

BULLETIN: On June 8, 2015, "Bum Rap" became the Number One bestseller in the Amazon Kindle Store. It was also the Number One bestseller in "legal thrillers" and "mysteries." On the same day, "To Speak for the Dead" was Number One in "heist thrillers" and "Night Vision" Number One in "international crime thrillers."

Levine's first novel, "To Speak for the Dead," introduced the world to Jake Lassiter, an NFL linebacker turned hard-nosed lawyer. Lassiter has been described by The Miami Herald as "having more charisma than Perry Mason ever did" and by Booklist as "one of the most entertaining series characters in contemporary crime fiction."

In "Bum Rap," Lassiter has had it with sleazy clients, shifty prosecutors, and a legal system out of whack. He's about to hang up his shingle when Victoria Lord calls. Solomon has been arrested for murder. What's worse: the only person who can clear him has disappeared. Now it's up to Lassiter and Lord to track down the witness--a stunning Bar girl--before she's roped in by the feds...or eliminated by the Russian mob.

Levine's other series features squabbling lawyers - and lovers - Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord, who duel in and out of court. The Chicago Sun-Times praised "Solomon vs. Lord" as: "Remarkably fresh and original with characters you can't help loving and sparkling dialogue that echoes the Hepburn-Tracy screwball comedies. A hilarious, touching and entertaining twist on the legal thriller."

Levine has won the John D. MacDonald fiction award and has been nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award, the Macavity, the International Thriller Writers Award, the Shamus Award, and the James Thurber Humor Prize. A graduate of Penn State and the University of Miami School of Law, he was a trial lawyer before becoming a full-time novelist.

Ten of Levine's novels have hit Number One bestseller status on Amazon in their genres:

LEGAL THRILLERS: "To Speak for the Dead," "Solomon vs. Lord," "Fool Me Twice," "Illegal," and "Bum Rap."

MYSTERIES: "State vs. Lassiter," "The Deep Blue Alibi," and "Mortal Sin."

SERIAL KILLERS and INTERNATIONAL CRIME: "Night Vision."

ORGANIZED CRIME THRILLERS and SPORTS FICTION: "Paydirt."

In June 2015, Levine was the Number One bestselling author on Amazon Kindle.

Here's a list of the "Jake Lassiter" books in order of publication:

This was a great stand alone suspense drama type. I have become hooked on Levine's books since my first Lassiter series and have found that he is really a talented writer. I love books that I can read with excitement and can imagine the images for a TV series or major movie as well. Very descriptive, great ability to keep with the locale of his characters and always draws you in wanting more. This book is great for mystery lovers, suspense lovers, and even those loving and believing in the good ol' All-American past time and those who play while being true to themselves. A nice, heart warming story with lots of twists and turns.

Bobby Gallagher has it all. A great job as a lawyer for the Dallas Mustangs, a beautiful wife who he adores and a super intelligent son. But the owner of the team, his father-in-law, keeps making him compromise his ethics. After being told to buy another football player out of trouble, Bobby has had enough. He tries to fight back but ends up losing everything, including his family.

Two years later he is broke working as a chauffeur and bookie and still mourning his losses. When a known mobster comes to Bobby with a bet he knows he can win the trouble begins and to get out of it and win his family back Bobby has to do the unimaginable.... fix the Super Bowl.

Paydirt was one of those books that has characters that stay with you long after the book is finished. I so wanted to know more about Bobby and his family. The story was a fast and engaging read. I loved the way Levine built up the suspense about the super bowl while still keeping the story believable. This is a highly recommended read for anyone who loves a great fiction read. I am definitely a new Paul Levine fan.

A bit different from his other novels, but you still recognize the Levine touch. Although I did not plan it this way, reading Paydirt, a novel about football and the Super Bowl, the week of the 2014 Super Bowl, made a lot more sense. Being Canadian and not really a Football fan, this story about the sanctity of the game being destroyed by owners and criminal players protected by shady team lawyers, is food for thoughts. One of Levine's better books.

This is an excellent book about the greed and power that corrupes people and makes them monsters. The story line will hold your attention and is well written. Lots of drama.

Wasn't sure what all the book was about when I started but I could tell it was a paradox of the Dallas Cowboys, which is our favorite team. I couldn't put it down! The characters were well developed and the plot kept me hooked from beginning to end. It's a great mystery read, a fun romantic read, and a huge Big guy vs little guy book!

I'm reading thinking oooh this is good; too bad it's almost to the end. THEN I look down at the page bar: I'm only half way through! Yeah!!! A packed full story that made me buy two more of his books.

Excellent book by Paul Levine, with twists and turns and great characters. It grabs you from the first page and hangs on. As with other Levine books, there are plenty of surprises.
