SUPER WHY! from PBS KIDS makes learning to read and write so fun that kids won't realize they're absorbing essential literacy skills. This app features an intuitive, kid-friendly interface, and best of all, kids learn not to be afraid of learning from mistakes. Based on the hit PBS KIDS show, this colorful, action-packed app features the show's four characters in four different games. Journey to Storybook Village and learn the wonders of reading and writing with Super Why, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, and Alpha Pig. And why yes, Alpha Pig does fly!
When you launch SUPER WHY!, you're presented with a menu of four games: Super Why's Story Saver, Princess Presto's Wands Up Writing, Wonder Red's Rhyming Time, and Alpha Pig's Lickety Letter Hunt. It's easy to exit from each game and start another one at any time. Clearly written rules are available from the main screen. For an added challenge, combine all four games in "Play All" mode by selecting the SUPER WHY! book.
Super Why's Story Saver challenges players to choose the correct word in a sentence. You see a scene from a story accompanied by a sentence with a missing word. For example, you'll see an elves' workshop with some elves busy making shoes. The sentence reads, "The elves made ___ at night." You must choose the missing word from "milkshakes", "shoes", and "sandwiches". If you choose "milkshakes", a milkshake will appear in the workshop. That can't be right! But you'll still get a good laugh as you learn from your mistake. Super Why encourages you to keep trying to choose the right word.
Princess Presto's Wands Up Writing teaches your kids letter sounds and how to write them. You're trying to spell out a word. Princess Presto shows you a series of letters, and asks you which letter makes the sound she pronounces. When you choose the right letter, the letter appears in one of the word blanks. Then the good princess will help you trace the letter with her magic wand.
Wonder Red's Rhyming Time also helps you practice proper pronunciation and reading through fun rhymes. Help Wonder Red choose the word that correctly rhymes with another word she shows you. In Alpha Pigs' Lickety Letter Hunt, you're helping Alpha Pig find his way home by identifying letters he needs at each intersection. When you choose the right letter, Alpha Pig flies closer to home.
All these games are part of a great reward system. Every time you successfully complete a game, you win a cool sticker. As you play the games, you'll quickly amass a lot of stickers. Use these stickers in My Super Stickers section, which contains different pictures to paste your sticker collection on. Nice!
What makes SUPER WHY! such an effective educational app is its seamless combination of fun, helpful characters and constructive criticism. Your child learns that he or she can learn from making mistakes; the games are never graded nor does the child ever "lose" a game. SUPER WHY! helps children build scholastic self-confidence while instilling in them the notion that reading and writing is way too much fun. This app is also a neat supplement to the SUPER WHY! television program and website.

Fun AND Educational - Great App!,
By
This review is from: SUPER WHY! (App)
My 3 year old is having so much fun with this app and her Super Why friends! She has really taken off with her letter recognition lately so this is the perfect FUN and EDUCATIONAL game for her to play with. With the 4 different games, there's something she can easily do now (Pig's letter recognition game) and things for her to learn and grow into with the other three games (rhyming, letting writing and sentence completion). The 4 games use the different characters/skills so it doesn't get old and she can pick what she's in the mood for... or randomize through all of them to mix it up. Sticker book is great fun too! This has very quickly become the go to app on my phone. Can't go wrong with PBS!

Super fun Super Why learning games! Your kids will love this app,
This review is from: SUPER WHY! (App)
My kids LOVE the Super Why show on PBS so I was thrilled to see this app available. I think it's a huge bargain because for $2.99, you get 4 unique games PLUS a sticker book area with tons of different scenes.
Each Super Why character has his/her own literacy game that fun to play and learn at the same time. My kids can't get enough of using their finger to work Princess Presto's magic wand and write letters with her. The game is smart enough to know when the kids write the letter in the correct stroke order! Their other favorite is the Super Why Story Saver game, where they have to complete the sentence and make the fairy tale come alive. I love how if they pick the wrong word (like "Goldilocks slept in little bear's **truck**") it changes the picture to include the truck. We all crack up and sometimes my kids get silly and pick the wrong answers on purpose just to see how funny the wrong stuff is! Each game they play, they unlock a sticker to use in the sticker area so when they just want to play, they have a bunch of cute scenes from the show that they can decorate. This is a must-have for any Super Why fan. Fun and learning for your little ones! Makes me love PBS even more.

This review is from: SUPER WHY! (App)
Screen has a wide bar through it about 2/3 of the way from the left margin with missing info that makes it impossible to use. Requested a refund but heard nothing back from amazon. Looks like a cute education game like pbs show. Too bad it doesnt work for me. Dont get if you have a droid x.
