5.0 out of 5 stars Good Improvements From 2005 Version
I disagree with the argument that this is not an improvement over the 2005 version.

3.0 out of 5 stars Product OK - Rebate Offer Fraudulant
Product works OK. Almost daily updates which are handled very quickly with the auto-update. Quick scans. However, the rebate offer which is mailed to Synnex Corp. appears to be fraudulant. Have been waiting over 16 weeks, double the indicated time to receive rebate. Synnex indicates my request had no errors and rebate will be sent. After five calls and promises to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Improvements From 2005 Version, November 18, 2005
This review is from: PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I disagree with the argument that this is not an improvement over the 2005 version.

First of all, you have to purchase the newer edition to continue to receive updates from Trend Micro or any other InterNet Security program.

Second, I think the interface of the 2006 version is much improved over the 2005 version, which I replaced. With more options such as Anti Phishing protection, I feel the 2006 edition is easier to navigate than the 2005 edition.

Third, Trend Micro continues to be one of the best Internet Security products on the market. Before TM, I used McAfee, which crashed my old computer at the time (3 years ago). I also used Norton 2003, it was better than McAfee, but I noticed significant slow down in the performance of my computer. I am using 2.4 Gig Dell with 1 Gig RAM, it is 3 years old and Trend Micro runs smoothly in the back ground. The slow down is practically insignificant.

In short, I love the program and will continue to upgrade with it for years to come. I hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more resource hogging!, November 10, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I've always used Norton products and been reasonably happy with them. Until I upgraded to the Norton Internet Security 2005 this summer. I configured everything exactly the same on the upgrade, and my computer became this slow-ambling dinosaur. It took 10 minutes to start up, an average of 4 to 5 minutes for a web page to load (using DSL), and even slowed down non-internet accessing applications. Even using the simple calculator accessory was a chore. A couple of calls to their customer service did not help greatly. We tried a few different configurations, and while it helped slightly it upped the risk and let in a couple viruses. I was then told I would either have to upgrade my computer, or live with the slower time. That got me mad. The fact that I have spent major bucks for Norton over the years made me madder.
I decided to try something else and after researching came across Zone Alarm Pro and PC-cillin. I went with the Zone Alarm first and encountered similar slowing times, plus it took forever to do a scan. My computer is a couple years old, but taking 5 hours to scan is still ridiculous.
Frustrated I went to the PC-cillin website and tried their 30 day trial before investing any more money. It was a breeze to install, set up and run. After 2 weeks, I dived in and bought the full application (at a heck of an offer on amazon.com). The email application does run a little slower but it's worth it to have all that spam filtered out automatically. The average time on starting up is a litle longer too, but once the computer is on, everything runs at normal speeds and the web loading is as quick as it should be. After a week of use, I am still very pleased. I've run daily scans and nothing has turned up so it's working the way it should.
Finally, internet security at a decent price and doesn't slow your computer down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upgrading Norton, November 6, 2005
This review is from: PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I have been a long time user of Norton Antivirus and recently had the opportunity to try both Norton 2005 and Norton 2006. These may both be quite capable programs but they suddenly made my top of the line computer feel sluggish as the time needed to fully boot up more than doubled.

For me, that was unacceptable. I decided to give PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 a try and I wasn't disappointed. It immediately found two minor viruses that had managed to slip by Norton without being detected.

PC-cillin also does a very good job blocking adware/spyware. I used to run Ad-Aware on a regular basis to scan my computer but now PC-cillin is blocking internet junk at the source before it has a chance to even get on my computer.

The software firewall built into Windows XP may block inbound internet traffic but it is not designed to prevent internet traffic flowing in the opposite direction. The PC-cillin firewall does a proper job by blocking unauthorized internet traffic in both directions. This feature alone is far more important than most casual users realize.

PC-cillin Internet Security 2006 is a very capable program at a reasonable price and it won't noticably slow down your computer. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Penicillin for a sick computer, March 22, 2006

For those of us who are disadvantaged by virtue of having majored in English literature in college and living in a definitely non-technical world, PC-cillin is a great relief. I have been using a PC for 20 years yet, never truly understood anything beyond the basics and what I needed to know for my writing career.

My computer crashed when 2 anti-virus programs would not run together and it took me hundreds of dollars and wasted time on the phone with reps in foreign countries to finally find a local tech who could fix a machine that had not run for 8 months and was only 18 months old!

He removed McAfee from my system and instructed me to buy Trend Micro's PC-cillin saying it is the "best available on the market" to protect one's computer and would be soon famous.

He was right. This program requires the technical knowledge of a 3 year old to run, it finds potential invaders, and runs simultaneously with Spy Sweeper. Together my PC is finally reasonable safe and I am reasonably sane!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Norton, June 8, 2006

I am not a tech. I'd read reviews that scared me into thinking that removing Norton would be difficult. I was running Anti-Virus 2005. It *did* slow my machine down, but I was able to uninstall it easily. (Note: You will have to uninstall other related Norton "programs" like Live Update separately - Live Update being the final in the series.)

The uninstall Norton - install PC-Cillin (including registration and loading new updates) took a total of 1 hour.

Immediately upon getting rid of Norton I saw an great increase in my system performance. I loaded PC-Cillin without issue. It seems to be more comprehensive coverage with more options to fit my needs...and my computer is running better than it was when I was using Norton. I'll never go back.

After five calls and promises to mail the check after each call, still no rebate. After buying this product two years in a row, the rebate fraud means this is my last purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive I think, June 13, 2006
By
Lil' Rowlands (Detroit Lakes, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Pc-Cillin, over the years, has been one of the popular and trusted packages alongside Norton, but unlike Norton that takes up system resources like crazy, PC-Cillin is friendly with resources, loads quickly once logged into your system, and has easy-to-use tools. I never seemed to have problems getting updates live, I remember Norton would get mad at you if your connection got interrupted and live update had to stop and it became corrupt and you have a live agent telling you may need to reinstall Norton since what they tell you to do doesn't work. I've had my connection get interrupted a couple times during a live update with PC-Cillin, but it was always able to reestablish the connection again and properly get the correct updates for your program and definitions. Allows you to switch between profiles with connections, so if you have a wireless connection, you can switch Pc-Cillin to look at that profile if you are using a wireless connection and switch back to direct if you are wired (or on dial-up). The firewall settings are very simply put and don't have you go through many tabs, which can get confusing (I am comparing a lot of these settings to Norton's. I'm not trying to speak down to Norton since I have used it and it's great, but Norton is a very sketchy program and is quite unstable in my own opinion. I've used Internet Security 2006 and I've had so much problems with it). The feature I really liked the most was the feature where you could look at who was connected to your network, whether it be wireless or wired. It was a simple way to review who is online and if an address you see is not correct or right to you -you can mark it as NOT TRUSTED or DO NOT TRUST and it deny's access to that particular MAC address. You can also password protect your settings too, which is just one more step to better security. Lastly, it does deep scans for viruses, spyware, & malware/grayware and does a good job of it. If Pc-Cillin can't take are of a certain virus or issue, it will usually tell you the loaction and how to manually delete if necessary for the end user to accomplish. Other great features include the vulnerability check, which scans your system for open vulnerabilities (most of these may occur, if one or two pop up, when you haven't done a windows update in a while). The anti-graud wizard and setup is nice too as you can enter in sensative information, whether it be the last digits of your phone number or passwords, PC-Cillin will monitor that once entered in properly. Overall, tons of great features and once again, NOT a resource hog and runs perfectly with your Windows Operating System. Great program Trend Micro. *Thumbs up*

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Better than Norton, May 7, 2006
This review is from: PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Having used multiple copies of Norton Anti-Virus and Internet Security for years, I finally got fed up. Endless problems and lots of time spent with Indian tech support personnel. Conflicts with other software (particularly Microsoft Outlook), and blocking various things that shouldn't be blocked. The capper was the impossibility of uninstalling the 2003 and 2004 NAV products without calling technical support!

After enduring this travesty, PC-cillin is a huge improvement. As stated by other reviewers, it doesn't hog resources and runs quietly in the background, getting the job done. What a relief!

After suffering through endless problems with Panda Platinum Internet Security and their worthless tech support, I finally removed it from my system and installed PC-Cillin. I chose PC-Cillin because it was rated as best overall by Consumer Reports. They were not kidding! PC-Cillin installed without a problem, is easy to understand and configure, has worked flawlessly. System scans are very fast and can be precisely configured. My system performance has also improved markedly. FYI, my O/S is Windows 2000 Professional.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning: Support is difficult to get & rebate program is a scam, April 30, 2006
By
This review is from: PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I bought PC-cillin antivirus, and when there was a problem with it being incompatible with my system, I got no response from their email support, or their phone support (usual endless menu with an option for phone message at the end).

Worse, their rebate competitive program is functionally a scam. I sent in all the materials and never got the rebate. When I called up about it, they castigated me for not sending in the UPC code and the page from competitor's manual (I did send both, but they lost it).

I will never buy another product from this company.

The program iself, once the installation bugs are worked out (Norton Internet Security helped me solve the problem! Trend Micro never gave any help, although requested to) seems pretty generic. I can't really tell how good it is, because maybe it's not doing anything, and I'm just lucky in avoiding viruses.
