Quick message: To get the full enjoyment out of Guild Wars, buy all campaigns plus the expansion, and link them to one account. This gives you access to ALL content (provided you fulfill the unlock requirements). If you plan to do a lot of PvP playing, this is not just a recommendation - this is necessary to remain competitive.
GW is a MMORPG, but unlike WoW, there is no monthly fee. In addition, you don't have to worry about people bothering you while you're out exploring or questing. Whenever you go exploring, you get your own private instance, which is based on where your character is in the story. For example, if you just started the game, everything looks fine and peaceful. Later on, the same area would become a wasteland. You can form parties with other people in towns and outposts. Because of this, GW isn't truly a "massive" online game, since you only see the masses of people in non-combat areas, where you cannot draw your weapon or attack. If you need guidance, be sure to join a legitimate guild. There are many guilds constantly recruiting in GW, but many of them don't actually live up to what they claim, and some may just try to use you for their personal gain. Experiment with a few of the guilds to see where you best fit. With many continents to visit, six (or more with new campaigns) professions to choose from, and daily missions to accept, Guild Wars will provide you with countless days of objectives to accomplish. And you can do it all without paying a monthly fee!

the Game is new unopened and includes both prophecies and eye of the north. "THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY" thats right one key for both games. personally i just got it for eye of the north and just added it to my account. it dose not allow you to split them in any way just to warn you. but i got it to add eye to my prophecies so i wasn't disappointed one bit. now on to the game.
if you enjoy games like wow but don't like the monthly fee and the level 80 characters killing you repeatedly than this may be the game for you. you really cant go wrong with this game when i got it back when it was originally $50 a game and here you can get it for dirt cheap "i spent $12" and you get the expansion eye of the north too. this is a great find in my book

Alright, I've played quite a few MMORPGs in my day, some with monthly subscriptions and others being free and I have to say, Guild Wars is better than anything I've played so far.
I started playing on recommendation from my boyfriend and at first I was really skeptic but after creating my first character and diving into the Prophecies campaign, I was not disappointed. I loved the feeling of the different towns and how you could choose to just go into the field with just yourself and a few NPCs or feeling froggy enough you could team up with other people. I also loved how you could kneel (literally) at the statues of the game's Gods and the avatars of the gods would come down and bestow upon you blessings and enchantments for a few gold coins. Although the level cap is only 20, that's only the beginning of the game. After level 20, you still obtain experience points to get more skill points for your character. Not to mention at that point, you can then start training to get your Elite Skills and Elite armor sets. And I have to say I'm not really into PvP, but I got more into it the more I played Guild Wars. You have the option in Guild Wars to PvP with NPCs or to go up against other players and vice versa. You also get PvP specific NPC characters and Heroes to add to your party. I would definately recommend Guild Wars to other RPGs lovers out there.

Guild Wars is dull, buggy, and boring,

I really wanted to like this game. The lore is excellent and how it ties into the completely different Guild Wars 2 (GW2) is exciting. But frankly, GW1 is just... crap.
I got GW Factions years ago and stopped playing that same day. It was just incredibly dull. I gave it a try again this year for the Hall of Monuments (HoM) that ties in to GW2. Here's what follows. The way you acquire skills is different for each campaign. Sometimes it is quests, other times buying, and other times through unlocking. All in all, it is anything but intuitive. You can stumble around for weeks trying to get the actual skills that allow you to play. Until that point, you only die, over and over. Plus, the costs to open up skills is too expensive. The balance is way off because of the skills. I understand why though. The only way to keep people playing is to lure them into trying to get the "best" skills. Because of that, the game is unbalanced and difficult, and then suddenly becomes too easy and has no point. You can only have 8 skills at a time. There is no talent involved in playing with this restricted number, it only reflects that you know the area coming up and picked skills for the creatures you'll encounter (if you even unlocked them yet, otherwise you'll just die over and over). The PvP community for such a small game is quite exceptionally rude. They are immature and the worst types that you'd see in this type of game. The larger MMOs seem bad, but those types of personalities are drowned out by the number of players. In GW1, they are all too apparent. It is also horribly bugged. For a game to been out this long (~6 years) and to have such huge game breaking bugs is unbelievable. Things can attack you through walls and corners. The game will lag out and rubberband your character around. The AI of the henchmen and heroes that go with you into battle is so bad, they may not ever do the obvious (like heal you) and instead do some random "other" skill that benefits nothing in the situation. Which brings about the fact that you don't play with people. It is a MMO without people. You instead pick NPCs to go about with you. Finding people to play with is near impossible, unless they are.... bad players, or really lonely people. It is kinda creepy the people that WILL try to help you. The community is polite in regards to not having public insults, unlike other MMOs, but horribly selfish in other regards. This is due to the broken economy. You only ever make 1,000 gold at most per every second or third quest. Yet many things cost over 100,000 gold. If you want to grind that out just once for 1 item, expect it to take a long long time. Which brings about the last point. For a game with only 20 levels and pretending it is against grinding, the droprate is so low in items you will grind as if this game had 200 levels. And because the economy is broke, you will be stuck trying to get the items yourself, or the money for the items. All in all, the fun of the game (the story and "challenge" of playing a broken game) is completely out-shined by all the flaws. You'll find those that play are quite loyal though. They play with a routine that you'll notice with any fanboy of any MMO. And they will shout at the highest peak the epicness of the game and completely turn on anyone that bas mouths their beloved. If you want to get a cheap game for the HoM rewards that tie into GW2, go for it. If you have patience and don't expect GW1 to be fun, you can enjoy playing for a short time and be done with it. Just don't expect from the reviews that it is good. Most that get it leave it and never come back. Only those that play it really praise it and give a false sense of how the game is.

I bought this game specifically for the Eye of the North expansion pack, even though I already owned the original because this platinum edition was on sale for 10 dollars. If you already own the original like I did, then you can apply the code to your account to add Eye of the North but it will not give you two copies of the original game or anything like that.
The game was fun because you are finally able to replace those terrible henchmen with computer-controlled heroes which you can fully customize with skill sets and items, so they are infinitely more useful. It actually makes it much easier to go through the original game by yourself. Also you do no have to be level 20 to enter the Eye of the North area as it automatically applies a buff that raises all your stats as if you were level 20 right once you enter that area of the game. There is a hall of champions with some sort of achievement banner looking things, and it would be cool if they linked that to Guild Wars 2 somehow.

I love this game, it's so much fun! They give you so many option on how your character can look and they really try to avoid the grinding that other mmorpgs give you in place of quests.
If you have someone to play with I highly recommend this, as some quests do require multiple independent players, but for most quests the henchmen you can hire will do.

I, like many other "old timers" (cut my teeth on Zork and Wasteland) was extremely hesitant about going online. I didn't want the monthly fee thing and I thought most were a sucker's bet to get you hooked then charge out the wazoo to keep playing with "needed" upgrades. I was extremely surprised and thrilled to find that this was the easiest dive into an online game than I ever expected. If you're a fan of the games like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate but love the open-ended non-linear gameplay of titles like Morrowind and Oblivion, you have GOT to try this out. Great price, too.
NEVER BUY USED, though. I can't stress that too much. If it's been used at all it's worthless to you, trust me on this. You receive a unique access key that is good for as long as you want to keep playing the game and you can have up to four characters made. Go for it!

I bought this game as an add on for the Trilogy and have really enjoyed it. Loading it isn't very clear, so pay careful attention to how it is supposed to be loaded or get someone to help like I did.
