Slows PC to a crawl,

This review is from: PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I'm sure this software is effective -- in fact in initial scans it caught lots of adware that Webroot Spysweeper never did -- but it's such a resource hog that my entire PC now works very slowly. Apps open more slowly, and IE7 also barely moves. I disabled a couple of the guards and that helped, but of course then it leaves me more vulnerable. In addition, an e-mail to Support 2 weeks ago still has not been answered. This was highly rated by some PC magazines, but overall I'm very disappointed.

Worse than the viruses.,

I am a heavy PC user, and this product basically cripples the PC so badly that you might as well take your chances on getting a virus. To make matters worse, every time it automatically updates, another application or service on my computer stops working.
Definitely do not run this if you have 1. SQL Server 2. Cisco VPN client or any other VPN client for that matter 3. Anything that you need to run quickly. This software really isn't enterprise quality. I've had it for 60 days now and have had to completely rip it out and reinstall it because it completely stopped working due to some update problem.

bought a full version of PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 from Buy.com. Was not able to activate antivirus protection on either of my machines (Win 7 ultimate and Win 7 home premium ) even after intense but fruitless correspondence with the helpdesk.
All other tools seems to work, however significantly slowing down the system. A few events like computer crashing and blocking me from attaching files to the email probably caused by the software (Computer got back to normal after a clean uninstall) .

I have used this software for years. I signed up and noticed the next year there was a charge on my credit card. Thing is, it was to 39.99, the full blown price. I let it go but unsubscribed to automatic billing. When time came to re-sub, I found a deal and it would not install because my old subscription had the old number attached. After waiting and hour on the phone, the guy told me to install and uninstall it two times, and "Uncheck" the part that said "do you want to keep your old subscription number.
Ten it worked, but alas, the next day neither my laptop nor my desktop worked. I tweaked for hours finally uninstalling Spyware Doctor and the laptop was fine. I did the same to the desktop, which is brand new..less than a month. I wrote to Spyware doctor and they told me to uninstall all Mcaffee that came with the computer? CAN YOU IMAGINE?? I'm asking for a refund Fat chance Oh by the way My free Spybot caught 5 trojans that were on the old desktop. So I am wondering what the heck is the use of the thing anyway? If you download it, please check to be sure your system can handle it, and make sure you do not automatically subscribe because you will pay twice as much as if you go and install it again, Uninstall it and go to program files to make sure you uninstall the whole thing, and reinstall it twice.

No support,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I was excited to get this program installed but that excitement quickly went away. The installation went fine however, it said that the "antivirus subscription is inactive". I contacted pctools via online chat. After about the first 10 minutes of obviously making sure I have a legitament copy, I was told to activate it online. I did that with no change. They sent me an email with a download link and new activation code. The download was only for Spyware Doctor, NO ANTIVIRUS NOW. This download was not the program that I purchased. Now I called them on the phone. I was forced to take a picture of the box, the cd and provide a copy of the Amazon invoice. I have sent all of this and still no resolution.
All I want is a working piece of software. What will they do next, send the police to my door to check the retail box?

This review is from: PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I actually liked the free version, so I purchased this product and I thought it was just ok.. UNTIL I realized it was eating emails.. turns out TONS of emails I sent, or people sent me, never went through! And as there is no way to change the settings to make this stop, I had to uninstall it completely..
THEN I got an email saying they charged my card $50 for an auto renewal!!! First off, I ONLY bought this because it was like $20, 2nd I HATED IT! So how on God's green earth do they think I want to pay double to keep it!?!?! STAY AWAY

Resource Hog,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Although product is fairly good at finding problems it uses so much of the computers resources that it brought my laptops down to there knees. I virtually couldn't use another program. My desktop is fairing much better, so I am almost ready to de-install the software from the desktop and have already done so on my laptop.

This product works well keeping viruses, trojans, etc. from infecting a computer, and the price is good. It is slightly less annoying than Norton but still can bring an old, low-powered system to a standstill under the guise of protecting it. Is it a good product? Better than the competition, I guess I have to say.

Buy only if you want POOR Customer Support Service,
This review is from: PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I purchased Spyware Doctor (I use Windows XP) and it did not work for my system. It responded more like a virus than the protector. I contacted customer support (40 minute hold and this after the online support suggestions didnt work) only to speak to someone out of the U.S. reciting a script. Anyway, I went through their recommended process..didn't work! The software most likely defective and of course can't return to the retailer (they suggested and also written in their pamplet that comes with s/w) because of copywright infringement laws and they have no way of issuing me a refund because I purchased it at a retailer. Currently, I have sent the corporate office in San Francisco an email requesting a refund. I can only hope. It's the principle not the money. If your product doesn't work, it shouldn't be hard having to get some resolve. Ugh!

WARNING!!! PC Tools Will Rip you Off,

This review is from: PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Don't let this company (PC TOOLS) get a hold of your credit card number because they will use it to make unauthorized purchases. For more info google "pc tools automatic renewal scam". They have ripped off thousands of their customers.
You might be safe buying this software from a third party like Amazon because PC Tools probably won't see your credit card number. But you shouldn't be patronizing companies that systematically steal from their customers. |
