This usb cable does exactly as described. It will connect the power signals from 2 usb ports together (the second male connector only has the power pin active). If the device you're connecting can use more power than one usb port will supply, then this cable is better than an ordinary usb cable. Otherwise there is no reason to even attach the second usb port connector.

If for example, your device is already charging at it's max rate from one usb port, then this cable will not speed up the charging. However, when used to overcome a real cable power limitation, this cable will increase the power available.

Somebody out there is confused: this device is only to increase the power (the amperage) for devices which need a bit more than the nominal 500 mA from a single USB port. The product does nothing for the data transfer characteristics. The power from my laptop ports is less than 500 mA and I needed this product to power an older USB external hard drive. And it does that quite well, thank you very much.

A lot of the confusion here is because this is not a data splitter cable but only a power increasing one. The female end gives you both data and 2x or two times the power of a standard USB port which is 500 mAh. These were originally intended for external hard drives or DVD players that couldn't run on one USB port. The problem for me is that the two male cords aren't long enough to reach the USB ports on each side of my MacBook Air. The best way I use this is when I travel I plug both male ends into my dual USB car charger which gives me 1000 mAh to charge my iPhone 5C which has a 1507 mAh battery. Alternatively you could buy Belkin's 2.1 amp car adaptor available here on Ammy. Another way I can use it is with my DigiPower 4 port USB wall charger. Using two of those ports also gives me 1000 mAh of power. The DigiPower is also available here along with many other 2 and 4 port USB chargers. Each of these two methods means my iPhone 5C is charging at 2/3C or two thirds capacity which means I achieve a full charge in about an hour and 20 to 30 minutes. If you keep these things in mind you should be okay.

Deciding how many stars to rate this is hard. Because they do not provide any specs on the cable, I can't say they mislead me and it is of reasonable quality considering the price. Unfortunately though, the cable is not capable of doing anything more than combining 2 500mA ports and giving you 1 amp max for your device. Even if you connect it to 2 1 Amp power sources, the cable will only allow 500mA through each. I verified this using a USB Volt/Amp meter. So in my case, I was wanting to increase the 1 Amp output of the factory USB port in my car to 2 by connecting to a separate 1Amp USB power source. This doesn't work, I'm hoping there is another option for me, why don't people provide specs? Especially when you order something online, the more details the better, would save a lot of time!

I have only two USB ports on front side of my desktop but 6 on back side. Backside USB ports are difficult to access for daily use. The regular single USB extension cable cannot give sufficient power to my WD passport external hard disk. I plug this cable into 2 USB ports on the backside and it reaches the front very well. Now I can plug the portable HDD into it easily and it works good. A powered USB hub should work for the purpose, but this cheap workaround does the trick well.

The material looks cheap, but ok for the price I spent. There was no tracking information for shipping (free shipping). The product reached on the last day of 'expected' delivery. I've no complaints, but just thought to add it here.

I bought this so that my WiiU could power my external hard drive (WD Passport Ultra) without having to plug the hard drive itself into the wall. For that, it certainly does what it was intended to do. It's just the right length for that too. If that's what you're looking for, then this will certainly work.

I wasn't getting enough power from one USB port to power my external hard drive. This devise allows me to plug into two USB ports and now my hard drive runs without problems. The item arrived on time and was exactly as advertised.

I bought a Sony Google TV device (nsz-gs7) and it wouldn't work with any USB hard drives that were powered through USB. I read that this might work as it pulls power from two USB ports. It worked perfect! Very fast!
