The BEST if You're New to Digital Photography!,
This review is from: PCPhoto Digital SLR Handbook, Revised & Updated (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
In the past couple years I've read a slew of books on Digital Photography, including works by Scott Kelby (who is excellent), Michael Freeman (too advanced for the beginner), Ben Long (too long-winded) Tom Ang (has problems with his writing), and Bryan Peterson (also excellent), et.al. For people that are new to digital photography, PC Photo's "Digital SLR Handbook" by Rob Sheppard is the best of a somewhat crowded field. Scott Kelby's 3-volume set of photography books is terrific--but pricey at $44 on www.amazon.com Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Photography Field Guide" is a very, very close second in the best books for a beginner--the brevity of the Sheppard book gives it the edge.

This book is excellent. I've learned more from it than from any other book that I've read. The author gives expert advice on everything, from selecting a camera to taking pictures.
