Hitachi G-1000,
By A Customer
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I read most of the reviews for this product and some do not do any justice. I am the proud owner of a Hitachi G1000 which I purchased in August, 2003. 1. I use the included Word, Excel programs on a daily basis, to avoid freezing, I purchased an SD memory card and runs with no problems. (I store music, photos, maps, Excel, Word pdf files, dictionary, accounting sofware, you name it.) 2. I find the phone ringer and earpiece volume adecuate. (some people don't) 3. Phone reception? I can say it's great. (Florida) 4. Works great with Pharos GPS antenna, Ostia sofware with maps and it works wonders with the Mapopolis GPS sofware. 5. The best part, if you are an active trader you can use MidCast applications to watch realtime prices. Selling and buying stocks on the internet has been one of my favorites using this baby. 6. It took me a while to learn how to use the exterior keypad and once you master this feature you are quickly writing e-mails and sending them with attachments. Great tool(toy) for any adult. 7. Complaints? Should had come with 64 MB RAM instead of 32.

I've had this pda phone for about a month and i'm glad to finally put all of my scattered contact information gradually into this device. However, I have some major problems with it:1- THE PHONE'S RINGER IS EXTREMELY INAUDIBLE!!! even though I've turned everything up to the max and also have picked the highest pitched ringer tone!!! so if you must put it in your pocket oR briefcase, be VERY prepared to miss every call you get!!!! 2- the external keyboard is totally a useless part of the device 3- for the price of the device, the manufacturer sould have put 4- MOST importantly, this thing is a power hogger!! make sure 5- the software on the CD contains Outlook 2000, the outdated 6- the screen is bright in the dark but almost invisible in 7- the phone's reception is weaker than my old motorola startac! 8- THE EARPICE HAS LOW VOLUME, even at the highest setting! so other than that it is a great pda / phone!

Hitachi G1000 - best all-in-one,
By A Customer
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
Pharos makes a direct-connect GPS antenna for this unit. Only complaints - still using PC2002 and the SPRINTPCS site does not recognize PIE as a valid web browser for downloading stuff directly. That's OK, I use other sites for downloading. I use Citrix client for remote LAN access over Sprint's network - best of both worlds; wireless web and total access at work. I seldom use the keyboard, but when I do it's very convenient. I use NYDITOT's screen resolution changer to view 800x600 sites (as well as other resolutions). Very solid performance. Speaker-phone and voice-command dialing are pretty good. Sprint's service is pretty solid. Doesn't work well with AirScanner, but it works well with every other program I have tried - eevn those that are quirky on Ipaq and Dell seem to run without complaints on the G1000. If you DON'T like the built-in keyboard, you may not be comfortable with the added-size this puts on the PDA. But the case is well-designed and works great. Camera is excellent (for it's size). This is definitely MY favorite - over the following I've had over the years: Handspring, Casiopeia, Ipaq, Dell both in form and function overall.

So far...NOT so good...,
By M.J. (So Cal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I've had this thing for 3 days so far, & spent most of today at the SPRINT PCS service center trying to get this monster working properly! I wish I would've read some of these reviews first! After going through 3 Handspring Treo 600's in 9 months,(No joke! 2 broken ear speakers & 1 bad OS) I thought that this would be a Godsend. After spending the better part of today at the service center, I was told that they would have to send me another phone! I immediately asked if it would be a reconditioned phone, & was told "YES"...but it will still have a SIX month warrantee. My 3 day old phone came with a ONE YEAR WARRANTEE! I said absolutely not!
After much back & forth, I got them to agree to provide with a brand new unit of any manufacturer & price of MY choice when the new line of phones came out this fall. ...& yes, I got it in writting! Dealing with them, or ANY carrier for that matter is at very best difficult. If you can keep your cool, & keep "pressing in", you'll eventually come across someone who has the ability to say "YES", when all others have said no. Keep in mind that you don't need to take "NO" from anyone who can't tell you "YES". Good luck! (& wish me luck too! LOL!)

Fabulous phone, super functional.,
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I agree with the overall rating of 4 out of 5, but lean towards 5. Some seem to have trouble but that's not the phone's fault, it sounds fishy to me. The phone is reliable and a workhorse, totally keeping up with all you want to do. It's fast and expandable, as both a voice activated phone and a MP3 player, movie player, camera, for GPS directions, etc. Buy it and buy all the wonderful accessories for it.

Hitachi G 1000; great features, some glitches in operation,
By Howard D. Sterling (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
The first reviewer summed up great features. I have 10,000 contacts from my ACT; good news, all fit into contact list including most recent notes; bad news, phone freezes 5-10 times per day tho soft reset quickly puts it back in action. Negative is that one cannot do one-hand dialing as on a plain cell phone. I have not learned to use the voice dialing features. The Hitachi PDF manual is 254 pages very long. Also I cannot find where to buy a second cradle and power supply

The best phone out there,
By A Customer
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I purchased this phone for the following reasons:1) PDA contacts list syncs automatically with my laptop and Outlook 2) Downloadable email without my intervention 3) Web access - email or check something quick on the web 4) Expansion slot 5) Hands free speaker phone and voice recognition dialing (Using the center button located between the green and red phone buttons) 6) Keyboard (You'll be amazed at how quickly you can type with your thumbs!) 7) Clear screen resolution 8) Camera - it's ok - but not the reason I purchased it. If your looking for many of the qualities I've noted above, this is by far the best phone on the market. Can you hear me know Verizon?

It's a great phone,

I love my phone! The only reason why I gave 4 stars is because, a: technicians at the Sprint store or Sprint website are not familiar with the phone and so their service is not quite up to par; b: it's kinda hard to find accessories for the phone. Otherwise you get a ton for your money with this pda and I highly recommend it.

some good - some bad,

It is very big....awkwardly big at times and handily big at others. The thing that I really didn't like was my earrings hit the touch screen when I was talking on the phone and pushed the buttons...irritating. I don't like the fact you can't send text messages either. I really couldn't utilize the email feature because I have msn mail and so I couldn't use it. I did try to send email using my sprint PCS account and it wouldn't go through, it said it was sent but it was never received. I guess if you are a business person with business email and the need for all the great features, it would be a gem. For me it was just a pain. I traded it for a flip phone.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PCS Phone Hitachi G1000 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
This phone can do almost anything. I was originally going to get the Treo 600, but after visiting a sprint store I realized that it didn't hold a candle to the G1000. Extremely reliable and very reasonably priced considering everything this thing can do.
