5.0 out of 5 stars The IPod of Cell Phones....
the anxiety of switching from verizon to sprint was bad enough. When I went to the Sprint store to get an extended battery, the salesperson told me the replacement model to the 7300 would be in any day, so now I'm miffed I bought an almost outof date model.
Since it was still within the first 14 days of my purchase I could exchange up. Psheww... So,of course I...

Like another reviewer, I am seeing the signal faded problem. The phone started off having no problems, but then the problem kept getting worse and it degraded very quickly. I have only had the phone 5 days and it is now almost unusable! I had to call customer service about 20 times before I could get through! And to top it off I was outside and within 600 feet of a known Sprint tower. They did a PRL update, but this made no difference.

The number of bars indicated, whether the antenna is extended, or whether the network is typically crowded seems to make no difference on whether it is going to drop a call. I am guessing that the phone is having problems transmitting a strong enough signal. I can hear other people fine right before it loses signal, but other people can't hear me. The phone will typically drop the call between 20 and 40 seconds. If it makes it past a couple of minutes, it doesn't seem to have a problem. However, making it past a couple of minutes is quickly becoming rare. On a side note, the phone does not seem to have any problems maintaing a data connection. I can upload pictures and browse the web without any problem.

I plan on exchanging the phone for an identical one. I am hoping that I get lucky with the next one. If it also fails, I'm going to switch to a different phone.

I really like everything else about this phone. But if it can't make a call, what's the point?

------

I took my phone into the local Sprint store that I originally purchased the phone. It turns out that this phone has a firmware problem and it is has been a known issue for some time. The local Sprint store just received the firmware patch this morning. Apparently their technician had been hounding the corporate office to send him the patch. He was motivated because he also had the same phone and problems. Previously they just reapplied the firmware and updated the PRL list. That seemed to help some, but not really fix the issue. The latest firmware fixes the core problem. I made several test phone calls over my lunch hour and did not have a single problem.

If you get this phone, ask and make sure that the latest firmware has been applied to your phone. I would imagine that within a couple months all existing inventory will be sold and all new phones will already have the firmware in place from the manufacture.

the anxiety of switching from verizon to sprint was bad enough. When I went to the Sprint store to get an extended battery, the salesperson told me the replacement model to the 7300 would be in any day, so now I'm miffed I bought an almost outof date model.
Since it was still within the first 14 days of my purchase I could exchange up. Psheww... So,of course I go home and start to research the MM 7400. Then after reading about, iknew I had to have it. I called everyday, is it in yet,is it in yet.

finally I got it in my dirty little hands. Even though Ididn't want the camera, it is a decent camera. Overall, the speaker is top notch, the sound in the earpiece is crisp and clear. Signal reception is most important to me since I leave in the mountains is superior to Verizon. The look is where it is at. It is as sexy as the IPod, sleek , eye catching but it has the hardware to back it up.

Now,if only someone besides BodyGlove could make a leather case for it. I do not like the after market Body Glove Case at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unsteady Performer, January 16, 2005
This review is from: PCS Phone Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I went through 3 of these phones - the first 2 exhibited significant "signal faded" dropped calls within a week or two of my initial purchase. The camera and video capabilities are ok - with the quality nothing to really write home about. I do like being able to load AAC ringers which can be converted from MP3. If you buy this phone and notice any problems you'd be well advised to get it replaced quickly under warranty because once mine started dropping calls it only got worse and worse.
UPDATE 2-21-2005: I exchanged my first two phones. The third time turned out to be the charm. I have not had any additional problems. I enjoy the screen, text messaging and video capabilities. I'd rate this phone a good buy and it would be even better if you could be certain you wouldn't get one that suddenly drops starts dropping calls. UPDATE 3-29-05: There is supposed to be a firmware update to this phone that the local SPRINT stores are able to apply to fix the dropped calls / signal faded. On my replacement 7400 I have yet to get a single faded call - and I'm using it in the same places as my previous (defective) ones. If you're having call faded issues definitely seek out the firmware upgrade.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone Overall, May 15, 2005
This review is from: PCS Phone Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
After doing extensive homework on all the phones, i decided on this phone due to the multimedia and readylink features. I have not been disappointed with either. i was aware that sprintTV wouldnt be that but about 15 fps and thats not hdtv quality but its still pretty cool. Readylink is clear in my area just takes time to get use to use the buttons. The camera and camcorder features are ok and anyone looking for professional quality pictures or exceptional video recording this isnt for you. The camera and camcorder are average but do you expect from a cell phone under 200. For the price and the money this phoen is pretty awesome and i have been extremly satisifed. Oh by the way dont throw the manual away because this phoen as so many features.

This phone has just about everything available on a wireless handset: calendar, camera (still and video), TV, games, ringtones, internet, PC sync and changeable faceplates. I've owned this phone for about 2 months and still enjoy it. I definitely believe that the phone should come with an extended battery as part of the package.

This review is from: PCS Phone Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
this is a great phone, but the camara quality is what i was most interested and this phone does not have that. it is just ok. other than that i have had no problems with signal and have dropped it a few times and seems to be very sturdy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Even Think About It!, January 20, 2006
This review is from: PCS Phone Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
The only thing worse than this phone has been Sprint's response to addressing the phone. This phone began dropping calls about 90% of the time a week after I bought it. I took it to the Sprint store which my warranty directed me to and Sprint stated it was Sanyo's problem and I should contact them. After several emails, phone calls (using a land line since my $350 phone wouldn't function), & me reading word for word the warranty that came with the phone I purchased 3 weeks prior, Sprint stated if I took it back to the store, they would exchange it. After researching on the web, the dropped calls are a common complaint which Sprint has chosen to ignore, instead passing the defective phones on to their customers. I've been a satisfied Sprint customer for 8 years but this phone and Sprint's response leaves me feeling like Sprint has been deceptive. I will not remain a customer.

This is a great phone with great features! I've owned it for a little over 5 months. It does just about everything a gadget junkie would want it to do. And it's surprisingly not bulky for such a multi functional phone. It's definately worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE!, October 21, 2007
This review is from: PCS Phone Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I got this phone when it first came out and paid full price at the sprint store. It's 2007 now and I've had the phone since 2004, I have had this phone longer than any other. It's sturdy and has lots of features. One in particular that I like is the option to screen calls that come in, you push the "screen call" option and the caller hears your voicemail come up you then have the option to let them leave a message or pick up the call. I have not had any problems with dropped calls or any other. After 3 years, I'm amazed it's still working great. I still have the original battery and everything is holding up just nicely. Best phone I have ever had!

1.0 out of 5 stars I got a lemon, August 21, 2005
This review is from: PCS Phone Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
A month after I bought the phone, it mysteriously stopped taking new photos. When I hit the capture button, screen went black and then after 10 seconds, came back to the start screen, with no new photos in 'my pictures'. Then I tried to erase a photo that had previously been stored. This caused the phone to turn off. Now, when you hit the power button, the sanyo screen comes on, and then the phone dies. So I can't even turn my 1 month old phone on.

The sprint customer service representative says they'll give me a new phone.

Also, I didn't have a problem with dropped calls with the old phone.
