Don't throw your money away on this product,
By A Customer
This review is from: PDF Converter 2 Professional (CD-ROM)
The activation process for this product ties hardware configuration to the serial number. Then if you upgrade your hardware, you can not re-install this product on a new configuration (even after uninstalling from older hardware). Then try to get a hold of Scansoft, $19.95/phone call and $9.95/e-mail. Poor product performance and poor product support.

Bogus technical support,
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PDF Converter 2 Professional (CD-ROM)
Technical support is HORRIBLE. They want to charge me $9.95 to just tell them about a "glitch" in their software....incredible.This is a decent product for the money. It is not perfect and sometimes converting documents it does not always come through perfectly. I can live with that. What bugs me is that there is a glitch with this software and how the plug-in works with Outlook. On the second start of Outlook the plug-in buttons for this - and my other plug-ins are gone! I uninstall this program and everything re-appears and works just fine. The issue is with this software. In reality it is no big deal right? I just tell the company and they work on a fix....however, just for the right to tell them I have to pay $9.95 for that. What a crock.. Is this what Scansoft is all about? They cannot even take user feedback on the issue without a charge? You'd think Scansoft would want to make its product even better and fix the glitches.....but I am not paying $9.95 to tell them about their error. Really stupid Scansoft.

This product is HORRIBLE!! Don't Buy It!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: PDF Converter 2 Professional (CD-ROM)
I tried using this product on some PDFs and it just would NOT convert them properly! I called tech support and they said sometimes it doesn't work too well why don't you buy our more expensive Omnipage product. They would not return my product nor give me free tech support with this product. After charging me $20.00 per incident on tech support they were unable to resolve my problem. They just said well "It does not work sometimes, buy our Omnipage product instead". Horrible customer service over there. ScanSoft truly exemplifies poor customer service.

Worse than useless,

This review is from: PDF Converter 2 Professional (CD-ROM)
I bought this based on a Scansoft e-mail ad that made wonderful claims for the accuracy of the PDF to Word conversion capability. Boy was I disappointed! I have yet to see the first accurate conversion of anything more complicated than a simple non-letterhead typed page. I tried to use it to update a manual of about 70 pages and found that it took over twice as long to fix the mess that Scansoft PDF Converter made, than it did to completely re-publish the manual grahics and all. If this product was free it would be a poor bargain.

Excellent Product. Cheaper and Better than Adobe,
By
This review is from: PDF Converter 2 Professional (CD-ROM)
This product gives all the PDF features that Adobe does not provide and at a fraction of the Adobe price. In addition, it is much easier to use than any other Adober software. In addition its compatibility and integration with Microsoft makes it an Adobe Killer. No other PDF integrates so well with Microsoft.A must have if you have to deal with PDF.

NITRO PDF did a better job. Actually replaces 2 software products.,

I was not very happy with the results of Scansoft's product. My document's graphics were skewed a bit and other anomolies in the transition from PDF to word. I had been tasked to find a PDF-to-word converter and things were not looking very rosy at all. Recently, I found a product called NITRO PDF that does an excellent job of BOTH: 1. creating PDF files 2. Converting PDFs to WORD documents and keeping the results pretty close to the actual PDF file looked like. In the end, I had to wonder why anyone would buy TWO separate products, like a PDF maker and a PDF converter, when this NITRO PDF does BOTH things quite well?" It actually is somewhere between Adobe Standard and Adobe Professional, as far as features go. More features than Adobe standard, but a few short of going head-to-head with Adobe professional (as far as comparing PDF "creator" functions) I think it is made by [...]. NOTE: If you want a review of Nitro, make sure you read the CURRENT ones. Some online reviews describe an OLD version of NITRO PDF. Like version 1.x. That is an OLD version and you can't gauge today's version of Nitro by such an old review. Nitro PDF, is at version 4.9 now. It does everything I want for a lot less than buying two products, like Adobe (for creating PDFs) and PDF Converter (for converting PDFs to WORD). Just my 02 cents. And Nitro is not just some cheesy shareware type of product. My local Officemax just started carrying Nitro PDF boxed edition, for like $99.99 Though I seen it online for like $49.99 So watch out Scansoft. Nitro has twice the functionality, for about the same price.

Can't get along without it!,

I work alot with PDF's and MS Office applications and this latest version converts from Word docs to PDF's perfectly. Converting PDF's back again in Word docs is pretty darn good with almost no corrections necessary most of the time. Its fast and stable as well. I also like to being able to "add" to PDF's by dragging and dropping into the PDF Create window. This makes it very simple to combine documents and email just one PDF to clients.

Look at the quality- or the lack of it!!,

Yes, it does provide a cheap alternative to Adobe, but the quality is much cheaper than the price. The words look blurred as if the ink had spilled. Do not expect to show your work to anyone else cos people will make fun of you for such sorry looks. Just a waste of time and money!!!

doesn't work for scanned in documents,
By
This review is from: PDF Converter 2 Professional (CD-ROM)
This only works on documents that have been electronically turned into pdfs NOT PDFs that have been created through scanning. So since nearly all the PDFs I work with are scanned in from books or journals, this product is worthless. ABBYY's PDF Trnasformer WILL do OCR on scanned in PDFs. It isn't perfect, but at least ABBYY's product is usefull for me.

Great Product!,

I just upgraded to version 2 of this product. I didn't have any problems with installation or activation. All of this carping over support. What do you expect for a $100 product? Get over it! In a few years all software will need to be activated. That aside, the product itself works great. I can see why Adobe hates it. The PDF creation process is really simple and for $100 it is a great value. I originally bought this product for the PDF to Word convesion capabilities of technical manuals and have been very happy with the job it does, especially on large (over 100 pages)and table intensive files. The conversions are usually right on with only a minimal amount of corrections. The PDF creation is just a bonus as gar asI am concerned. |
