Part of the time it would make a pdf from a .doc file; part of the time it wouldn't. It never converted all when more than one, and usually failed and canceled the job. And there is no support for this particular product. I usually have no problem making software work in general.

This review is from: PDF Create 6.0 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I bought this on sale, and then read reviews. Although I was almost afraid to install it, I am glad I did.

So far, I have done just a few test cases, but everything appears to work flawlessly.

Installation was very easy and fast. Even the dreaded registration was no problem at all. It just got my PC fingerprint and after I gave it my permission, immediately registered it. Didn't have to fill out lots of info or anything.

Older reviews (of the Create 5 product) complained about web pages not looking perfect. Heck, they never look perfect from Internet Explorer or Firefox "preview print" and Adobe PDF print driver either. I tried a quick PDFing of a cnn web page (one I've had problems with before using print under Adobe at work) and it looks good. Perhaps even better than what Adobe did with the site. So it passed that quick test.

Next, I tried PDFing from Microsoft Word 2007. The Nuance PDF menu it hooked in was easy to find at the top just to the right of the View menu. One selection and a file name later and I had a flawless PDF (I compared it with the Word file for page breaks, quality, etc. Looks fine to me.

Finally I tried putting some jpg photos into the PDF Create Assistant program that I invoked from my desktop. That too worked flawlessly and the pictues nicely sized to one page each. I tried both the single-file-per-pic and the combine into single file options and both worked great. And I see no indication that there is any pesky memory-resident thing lying around as some Create-5 reviews suggested. It shut down like any other program after I finished using it.

Oh - yes - and did I mention, I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit. The package said it works with Vista and Vista64, so I figured there was a good chance Windows 7 would work too (Microsoft based it on Vista app interface to make that transition easy...) Sure enough, it is working fine, even though the package didn't say it supported Windows 7.

Perhaps I will find a problem down the road, but for now I am exceedingly happy I gave this a try.

Oh - one more thing: I looked up the Nuance company and they are far from being a low-budget operation. They are the makers of Paperport and other professional software and my experience with this product matches my expectations for a good company. And no, I don't work for them or have any relationship with them at all ... :-)

I am not computer savvy but needed to convert documents and powerpoint presentations to PDF formats prior to a national presentation. The software performed well and was easy to use.

Performs as stated by te manufacturer, no problems installing or running. I purchased this to replace the "Save as PDF" feature from Microsoft, which quit working and there is no support to speak of. I use it both ways, directly from within Office programs, and as a stand-alone utility to create PDF files from several files.

I use open office, and as a consequence couldn't use PDF Create even with saving work with "office" file extensions. It seemed to work a little at first then it didn't. It worked with pictures however, but still I couldn't combine pdf's to make one larger pdf file.
In the end, and I should have known open office has its own export to pdf and it works great- I should have saved my money.

My demands are simple. Creat a MS Word document with embedded photography, click 1 button to convert it to a PDF and send it off. What could be easier? No missing words like other programs have done.

It is absolutely wonderful to have such a care-free tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, but I could be happier...., September 24, 2010

The product works as described. If you're looking to convert your personal Word documents into PDFs to load onto your Kindle, then this is the way to go. It did take a little trial and error to make it work right (because who wants to read instructions???), but was fairly easy to figure out. It allows you to select a number of files in one batch and then goes thru them creating pdfs for each one while you are doing something else. I really wish I could have installed it in more than one computer, however. It comes with a serial number and needs to be activated online, and then you can't install it anywhere else (seems like alot of overkill for the price). It also keeps carping about needing to be registered even though I've already done it and gotten an email reply from the company saying I did.
