UPDATE: Jan 2012- This Book is quickly becoming outdated. PDR Should release a new one. The Pill Book comes out in April. Wait for that or get a nursing book instead. Shouldn't be the first option. The internet is also available for drugs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for every household, February 25, 2011

This review is from: PDR Pocket Guide to Prescription Drugs, 9th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
I am amazed when people just blithely start popping the pills that their doctor prescribes without first doing some basic research into the drug. You know those papers with all the drug side effects and precautions that you get AFTER you pick up your prescription? This book has it all spelled out in good plain English. Also reviews the common dosage of each drug and for what conditions the drug is prescribed. For those who want to stay informed, this is a must-have item. Especially for those who may be seeing more than one doctor (the eye doctor, the gynecologist, the family physician, etc.) who might want to prescribe something. Being pro-active about your health is all important. Use ONE pharmacy for all your prescriptions...hopefully your pharmacist will alert you if you have two prescriptions that you are taking that are in conflict. But just in case he does not catch it...you can. Stay healthy by being aware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Earlier versons better, February 15, 2012

This version of the Pocket Guide PDR does not give as much info as earlier versions. I have a 2003 version of this same book that list 'commom' side effect, and 'less common' side effects. This 2011 version has left out that very important information.

I cannot recomend this book... I guess if you really want all the information (including side effects) you have to order the huge hard cover version that are found in Dr. offices (which is much harder to use and is not in laymans terms.)

Its too bad that they starting leaving the 'side effects' out of the Pocket Size PDR guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book but deceptive from pictures, December 18, 2011

Anyone that orders this book will be pleased by the wealth of knowledge it contains on every precription drug out there. Do not however be fooled into thinking that this is a "Pocket Guide", unless you have some very large pockets. It's about 3 inches thick. Luckily, I wasn't buying it for it's portability.

I needed a PDR for my class in nursing, this is an excellent resource, very easy to understand, and small enough to carry.

I find this book to be OK to get general information on drugs, but if you are looking for more in depth information consider

[...]I have the old 1991 version of this book, and it still gives me great information. Bought this book to supplement my other books.

My husband is 70 and needs to take many, many pills daily, so when the doc. prescribes

something new I always check out my Physicians Desk Reference. Amazon has just about the

widest selection of books and I love their site, the price for the paperback edition of

the book is affordable for almost anyone and consulting it can ultimately save a life!!!

Thank you Amazon,

This review is from: PDR Pocket Guide to Prescription Drugs, 9th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
Every year or so I purchase this reference book, and it never disappoints me.It's up to date with all of the medications my doctors prescribe for me. I can understand the details of what it's for, how to take my meds, even side effects, and other such vital information. If your like I am, and want more info on the medications you or other family members take, then this book is the one you need.

This review is from: PDR Pocket Guide to Prescription Drugs, 9th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
PDR Pocket Guide to Prescription Drugs 9th Edition is for layman and not for physician. The title is confusing since it says PDR pocket guide.
