latest overview,
By James D Wilson (Kensington, South Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: PEAK OIL - imposed by Nature (DVD)
To those who have not delved into the global oil/energy scene then this documentary will help to decipher the hype surrounding the concept of "peak oil". Peak oil refers to a point when global oil production will be unable to keep pace with growing world demand and cheap oil will be a thing of the past. Produced, Directed and filmed by Norwegian Amund Prestegard, 52, Prestegard runs his own production company, TROPOS DOKUMENTAR. "PEAK OIL - imposed by Nature" was nominated "Best professional documentary" at The Norwegian Documentary Film Festival 2005. The 30 minute doco (plus 18 mins of extras) is tightly packaged, and interviews key players in energy, media, finance and banking set out in detail world oil depletion with clarity and conviction, such as Campbell, Simmons, Ruppert and Laherrere - the film skillfully teases out the implications for our "fossil fuel" based civilization and poses the question: who will act on this information? governments?, corporations?, or individuals?. The choice to be informed, and act to ameliorate the demise of cheap energy is yours. This recent film is a valuable addition to the growing web, print and audio resources of a similar nature - and will help counter the misinformation and complacency of maintream media.

Important to know!,

This review is from: PEAK OIL - imposed by Nature (DVD)
This is a very informative DVD - not only because of current events (effects of Hurricane Katrina on oil prices and economy). Peak concerns the long-term rate of conventional oil (but also other fossil fuel) extraction and depletion. The question is not if there is a peak of oil but when it will occur. When this will happen this will have a huge effect - not only on our transportation habits but on global economy.

excellent introduction to the issues of Peak Oil,
This review is from: PEAK OIL - imposed by Nature (DVD)
Peak Oil, Imposed by Nature by Norwegian director Armund Prestegard is a short summary of some of the very important issues of petroleum supply. This DVD comes with two short films. The first is a 28-minute documentary that uses interviews to outline the issue. Colin Campbell, a geologist and retired oil-industry manager, reviews the facts of oil depletion. Richard Web, a British financial analyst, reviews some of the likely consequences of a constriction in our energy supply. Other speakers include Matthew Simmons, Chris Skreebowski, and Aage Figenschou. The interviews paint an easy-to-follow picture of the issues of peak oil. The second section of the DVD, and to me the more interesting section, is an 18-minute series of more detailed explanations by the director, by Colin Campbell, and by Matthew Simmons. Among other issues, Colin Campbell tries to answer the nagging question of "why don't oil companies tell us more about this?" and his explanation is both plausible and sad. On the whole, this DVD is a good short introduction to the issues of Peak Oil. Someone who has read deeply on this issue may not learn much new, but the interviews are interesting and this would be a good review.
