I expected this to focus on more core characters over the past 50 years, but too much of this book highlights the current cast. There isn't one picture of Edward or Lila Quartermaine, two major characters of a core family. How can that be? Anna Lee, David Lewis, and John Ingle deserve more respect. There are several typos and there is at least one glaring error in the book (Nikolas Cassadine is Stefan's uncle). Thinking that this was a collector's edition by People, I expected a book of better quality, but I am highly disappointed. I'm glad I didn't purchase another one to give to someone as a gift because it wouldn't have been money well spent. Save your money and don't purchase this book.

I chose this book because I am a fan of General Hospital and proud that they made it to the 50th year. However they seem to left out several key characters/actors that made the show so great and included new actors that just came on the show. That would not be a problem, but leaving out others was a major flaw.

It makes a good keepsake, but it is the same as the regular magazine which i also bought. So if you want a keepsake just buy the magazine. They are exactly the same.

While the photos were good, I felt that it should have included each core family-ie: Hardy's, Weber's, Quartermaine's, Corinthos', Scorpio's, etc... they completely omitted Constance Towers, who has played #1 villain Helena Cassadine since 1997 after Elizabeth Taylor originated the role in 1981, with the famous Luke & Laura curse. I felt they could have also included storylines that impacted audiences on social level and spoken to the fact that GH led the way, changed the format of soaps for every single network soap after Gloria Monty took the reigns in 1976. There was no special tribute to her, Wendy Riche and Claire Labine, as well as Michele Val Jean, who really educated audiences and brought awareness of breast cancer, aids/hiv, rape, organ donation, abuse, alcoholism. They should have been a part of this tribute because without them GH would have long since been cancelled. I thought they should have included the new regime of Executive Producer Frank Valentini and Head Writer Ron Carlivati for successfully bringing the show back to MUST SEE TV. I felt that for a show that is so iconic and broke television records for daytime television, should have been much more in depth. if fans want to buy a 50th Anniversary Special Edition magazine, they should get the Soap Opera DIgest. It's great, more in depth.

Weak. I've watched for 30 years and half of the main characters aren't even mentioned in the book. But the authors included several random side characters and guest stars that contributed nothing to the show. It's really a picture book with a few lines on the characters in the photos. It is so incomplete that it made me wonder whether the author/People Magazine ever watched General Hospital. Half the content is Luke and Laura, but Lucy Coe gets ½ page and Edward Quartermaine isn't in the book at all, nor is Nikolas Casadine. Finally, it is so disappointing that only one (most recent) actor is pictured for each character. The book should have include all the actors who played the main characters on the show. This is definitely NOT a collector's edition. True GH fans will be disappointed by this book. I gave it 2 stars only for the pictures of the characters they included.
I gave it to my friends who are also long-term fans and they all promptly gave it back. They said the same thing. You know a book is bad if your friends give it back to you within a week.

I have many favorite daytime soap operas so not one in particular is #1, but many are and "General Hospital" is certainly one of them. "Time" magazine called "General hospital" the "Greatest daytime drama of all-time", the serial holds the record as having the most viewers for any episodes, a reported 30 million viewers tuned in for Luke and Laura's wedding in 1981 (not even the finale of the "Oprah Winfrey Show" came close to that, and people like Sammy Davis Jr., Elizabeth Taylor and Tom Cruise have been counted as the big-time celebrities who have watched the show daily.

On April 1st, 2013 "General Hospital" celebrates 50 years of broadcasting on ABC, a rare feat for any TV series especially serials as only two other soaps have accomplished that feat albeit they are no longer on the air: "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns".

This is a beautiful book filled with anecdotes, storyline overviews, beautiful black and white and color photos from previous decades and a wonerdul introduction by the show's two biggest stars, Anthony Geary and Genie Francis.

Simply a treasure trove of trivia and a nice walk down memory lane for the most honored daytime drama ever, with "General Hospital" garnering an impressive 11 Emmys for Best Daytime Drama, the most for any soap opera.

There is a lot of great information in here, and it's well put together for a magazine, but it focuses a lot more on the current cast and stories than I would have prefered. They are important, I enjoy watching them every weekday, but for a special issue on the 50th anniversary, I feel like more attention should have been paid to the past. Also, the "current" information was already falling out of date by the 50th anniversary on April 1st, 2013. If you keep in mind this is just a hardcover People magazine and don't expect a ton, you'll be fine. I'm glad I found it at a low price.
