A hilarious and exciting book for readers of any age,
By alex (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
I am only 14 years old, yet I found this book as fast-moving and funny as my mum did. I simply couldn't put it down, and the relationships and predicaments of the characters only added to its appeal. I have also read 'Head Over Heels', 'Miranda's Big Mistake' and 'Good At Games', and found them as light-hearted and amusing as 'Perfect Timing'. I would recommend any of Jill Mansell's novels to readers of any age, as the hilarious plot-lines and surprising twists will keep everyone laughing and guessing until the end. A great book.

It's time for the USA to discover Jill Mansell!,

This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
For this genre (and we all know what it is!!) "Perfect Timing" is, well, perfect. Yes, some of the characters and plot lines are a bit over the top, but life can be a bit wacky too. The dialog is funny and the story moves along just like you'd want it to. I like the twist on the story that's too good to be true - we all know that if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. For those of you who aren't familiar with Jill Mansell's books, she usually takes one or two outrageous elements to begin with. To this, she adds a cast of totally realistic and believable characters that make the whole thing ring true. The result is just enough escapism, with a good balance of real life. She also writes solid dialog that rings true, with gentle humor and wit. She's written many, many wonderful books - too bad this is the only one that's available (as of today) on Amazon in the US. If you like Perfect Timing, I suggest trying Amazon.uk for her other books.

A fun and bubbly read!,
This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
What are the odds that you would meet the man of your life at your bachelorette party? That, of course, would mean that the man you're about to marry isn't the one, wouldn't it? That's what happens to Poppy Dunbar. On the night that she says goodbye to her single life, she meets a charming doctor. She is smitten. It is love at first sight. There is one problem: she will be married the next day. What is she to do?This British romance is a quick and enjoyable read. Keep in mind that this isn't meant to be a thought provoking and literal novel, but one that hopeless romantics could enjoy. I highly recommend it.

Brilliant , but not that good,

This book is an excellent read for people of any age. The twists always keep you interested and guessing! The relationships between the characters are never ending and give brilliant reading, in a book, which once you've started, you can't put it down until you've finished! Altough this is a brilliant book, I feel that one of Jill's other books "Head Over Heels" gives you a better example of how good Jill Mansell can write.I fully recommend this book and any other by Jill Mansell. Hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did.

I'm a huge fan of Jill Mansell's work.. I must have about 6 of her novels and this is one of my top favs. I found her to be amazingly romantic and creative. She can weave a romantic comdedy like very few others can... "Perfect Timing" is a great little gem that you'll enjoy for that easy - lazy days. The whole set - up of meeting the man of your dreams right before you walk down that aisle opens up so many options. It allows for every possible senerio. I loved the pace, charm and characters. It's wildly romantic.. I think you'll like it.

I have read several books by Jill Mansell and I have to say, I love the tittering that is typical of Brits and is so well done in this book. I love the characters she creates and the way that she brings several stories within the story together. This book is "brilliant." I would have given it five stars save for the ending. I don't want to give it away, but there was one little tidbit that didn't seem quite sewn up and I was hoping there would be an exchange on the matter. It is important to point out that in my opinion this is not a riddled with romance novel, but is lighthearted and geared towards relationships or the lack thereof. How real life happens. I'd definitely recommend this along with any other Jill Mansell novel.

this is the type of book i do not read. i tend to read literature. the closest i have come to reading a book similar to "perfect timing" is jennifer weiner's book "good in bed". that book had some very serious subject matter, as well as a story of a young girl's search for love. it wasn't just a romance book, and it was very well written (you didn't read this yet? you should)."perfect timing" is somewhat the same. well written, about characters that feel "real", not fake, doing things that people in the real world would do. it's not strictly a romance. it's a page turner, and really so charming. it's well worth reading, for something light and fun. the main character can be silly but not entirely so- she has some serious issues. i lost sleep reading it late into the night to see what would happen, an indication that i am really enjoying the book! it's not short either, there is alot to read, some very sweet characters to root for, and fun scenes. one caution- it is completely in "brit" english, and the expressions used, the way the people speak, the products- it may not be an american's cup of tea. if you think this could be a problem, get the sample, and see if it is comprehensible to you. i highly recommend this lovely, charming book. i will be buying more of this writer's books; i see only a few are on kindle as of now. give this one a try, i think you will be charmed as well.

This was the first Jill Mansell book I've ever read and it won't be my last, even though I didn't LOVE this one. I did like the way it was written - short chapters that make you want to continue on to find out what happens next. The story jumped around a bit, which always took me by surprise, and at first I had to go back and re-read a few things because there were so many characters to keep track of. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of novels written from a third person perspective - it gets confusing to keep track of each character and their backstory and what's going through their heads. I will say though, this one was presented in a fairly easy, breezy way and it definitely kept me turning the pages. I guess I was just expecting a little bit more, especially since this book is well over 400 pages long. The characters all seem to be exaggerated caricatures and fairly stereotypical - which didn't leave a lot of room for development.Having said that - I think I'll give Jill Mansell another shot - maybe try to find one of her newer books. I do think this book makes a good read for the summer - perfect for the beach or when you only have a few minutes to read at a time - the short chapters make it easy to get through! |
