A great solution for the flimsy Littermaid receptacles,

The best part about this BAG-It kit is the little ring thing that fits inside the receptacle. It's pictured in black here, although mine is a clear plexi-glass type material. I don't know if you can see in the photo, but it's flat and maybe half an inch wide and sits in the little indentation in the top of receptacles. You just take it out, put a plastic bag through the middle and up over the ring and set it into the top of the plastic receptacle. I use old plastic grocery bags and they work fine. When the bag is full, just lift the bag and ring out, toss the bag and put in a new one. You never have to replace those flimsy receptacles again!
The cover thing replaces the flimsy plastic receptacle covers. I put mine under the lid because it looks better that way. The two little white plastic covers, cover the holes so it's one solid piece on the lid. I've been using this for about a week and it works great. Finally a way around replacing the costly receptacles that will pay for itself in about a month. And it's a good way to recycle plastic grocery bags. Two thumbs up for this handy solution.

Much better than the replacable containers,

This product works quite well to solve two major problems with the Littermaid system.
First, the replaceable containers are extremely expensive. Depending on your cat's "production," you'll use enough of them to cost a dollar or two a week. The Bag-It system uses cheap (or even free) plastic bags, so it only costs pennies per week, at the most. Second, the replaceable container system doesn't hold in odors particularly well. The PERMA-Lid is considerably heavier than the flimsy replaceable lids, so when the flap over the container swings down, the lid presses much more firmly onto the bin. There are, however, some difficulties. How serious these are depends on your individual tolerance for them, I guess. First, there are no plastic bags made specifically for this system. That means that whatever bags you use are likely to be somewhere in between too big and too small; there is no just right. Plastic grocery store bags work pretty well, but I found that the smallest size Glad kitchen bag-- or, better yet, the generic equivalent-- works better, mostly because the grocery store bags often have little holes or tears in them. No matter what bag you use, though, you'll have to bunch up the excess plastic when you put it into the plastic frame and insert the assembly into the container. And that plastic-bag-plus-frame assembly doesn't fit as well into the container as one might wish. About half of the time, I get get some litter or doo-doo spill-out when I change the bag. However, even with the minor annoyances I've mentioned, I think this system is FAR superior to the replaceable containers. It's cheaper, and it contains odors better. I'm happy I bought it, and I'd do so again.

The PERMA-lid is actually quite useful. I did notice that reusing receptacle lids doesn't work for long, as the lids don't fully close after several uses, and the smell is then free to waft around the house. The PERMA lid doesn't bend or break, so the smell is contained.
The BAG-it is pretty useless, however. It consists of a little lip of plastic which sits inside a litter receptacle to hold the bag in place. The problem is that the lip of plastic prevents smaller clumps from falling all the way to the bottom of the container. When the lid drops down, the clumps are smushed between the lip and the lid. This sometimes prevented the lid from closing (leading to smell) and made cleanup DISGUSTING, as there was no way to remove the bag without grabbing cat poop. I found that a much better solution is just to line a regular litter receptacle with a bag, and fold the ends of the bag over the side (same as a garbage can).

We recently purchased the "bag-it" system to go along with the Litter Maid Mega Elite Automatic litterbox which we have had for a while. We've had earlier Littermaid automatic litterboxes and liked them (as do the cats!) but resented the expense and waste of the disposable plastic containers that you MUST buy to use the Littermaid system. (They are quite expensive, anywhere from $15.00-$20.00 for a box of 18 receptacles and lids.) The system rakes the waste into disposable container, about 10 min after the cat has used the litter box, so the noise of the motor won't frighten the cat--- then shuts a lid onto it. When full the entire container and lid are discarded. With the "bag-it" system, the top is much heavier and holds in the odors better than the flimsy, thin plastic top. The "bag-it" system has a rectangular holder for a plastic bag--we use the smallest size Glad trash bag--you could use a grocery bag however--the bag is placed through the rectangular holder, and the bad itself sits into the disposable plastic container. The cat's waste falls into the plastic trash bag,and the lid comes back down onto it to cover everything tightly; and when full the trash bag is what is discarded, not the plastic disposable container, which can be reused almost indefinitely. The plastic top or lid to the container is not needed at all.
Its a good system, works well, easy to assemble the first time. Less (really, in my opinion, NO odor noticable with the heavier lid on), and if desired a tent-like cover can be purchased for the entire litter box. Highly recommended. NOTE: In the picture, the top shows the disposable container that formerly would have been discarded daily. It is shown WITHOUT the trash can liner in it. On the bottom half you see the cover of the container, a very heavy-duty thick plastic. The two white circles are screws (along with bolts built into the plastic top) which secures the top into the Litter Maid receptacle top. All of this is shown in a wide open position.

The top lid works better than the disposable lids because it stays in place. I am not sure that the bag is the way to go. The holding ring for the bag does not stay in place all the time.

Faster, easier, cleaner, cheaper, greener than Littermaid's receptacles!
PERMA-lid & BAG-it Combo Waste Receptacle Replacement System for Littermaid Litter Box (Purchased on 08/17/2009) by LazrArt Easy to use, quick, saves money & the environment. System actually contains the oder better than original receptacle lids and the waste is easier to remove. You do need one clean Littermaid waste receptacle bin, w/out lid with this system. (I reinforced the outside of mine with duct tape) Now I use my plastic bags from the grocery store, and I never run out of grocery bags. Simple idea, and pays for itself very quickly.

I'm not as thrilled with this purchase as I hoped I would be. It fills rather quickly, the lid gets pretty yucky, and the litter still manages to get under the pan. Sometimes the frame falls inside the plastic pan also. I still appreciate the fact that I no longer have to worry about tucking the pan under those tabs or having litter fly up in my face like when I used to take the pan out. At this point the pros balance out the cons for me.

The pictures lead one to believe you are getting more than what you actually get. All this is, is a receptacle cover and some pins to hold it in place and a rectangular shaped piece of plastic that goes on top of the receptacle.
Grossly overpriced at $31.00. I was very disappointed at what I received for the money. Bob

Good idea with problems,

I've used Littermaid boxes for years and have tried this, another product called Slide-N-Toss, as well as the plain receptacles.
I found the Perma-lid cover to work fine and better than the stock waste-receptacle cover. The Bag-It ring is a failure. It's a good idea in theory but it does not work. The Littermaid relies on gravity to drop the litter into the receptacle and for gravity to work there has to be a slope. Unfortunately the Bag-It ring makes a flat ledge that interferes with this and traps litter and waste. Other reviewers have noted the same problem. My optimal system consists of a Littermaid receptacle lined with a thin bag bought on Ebay. These bags are just the right size and come in a small roll. They are very thin so don't interfere with the operation and are not plagued by small holes like grocery bags. They are just strong enough to hold the litter and I have not have them tear yet. I don't use the Bag-It rings at all. Instead of the Littermaid receptacle cover I use the Perma-Lid. I put the plastic nut of the Perma-lid inside the box and the round bolt-head on the outside where the cats walk. This only makes sense--why put the larger and sharp-edged plastic nuts where the cats walk? This is the optimal system I found so far after much trial and error. I give the Perma-Lid 4-5 stars and the Bag-It 1-2 stars which averages to 3. And by the way, you can buy the Perma-Lid without the Bag-It.

This is a pretty good answer to those expensive disposable Litter Maid receptacles. My previous method was to simply dump the waste and put the old receptacle back. The Bag-it uses common disposable plastic shopping bags that you bring your groceries home in. I think Bag-it works pretty good. I wish somebody would make a sturdy permanent receptacle that you could dump, replace and maybe take outside and hose off when necessary.
