When it comes to math, understanding the vocabulary behind the math is just as important as the equations. Sometimes, I get tripped up on the words and can't get to the equation itself. When I found these flash cards, I was really able to dig into the meaning behind the words involved with the problems. Once I understood those, it became a lot easier to see what the equation needed me to do. From there, tests that included this type of math were a breeze. When it came to the reading portion, I needed help as well. I've always loved reading but I never really analyzed the test as in main idea and supporting details and so on. The reading flash cards helped me figure out how to read and get the real points out of the stories. And then the writing part helped me put my words down correctly using the right punctuation. After using these flash cards, I really feel like I've improved my understanding in all of the areas, not just for this test, but for the long haul.
I am preparing a student for the PERT test and thought this would be a great system for him to see what he knows and doesn't know. I was really disappointed to see that the mathematics section of the flashcards are mostly definition-based. Where is the math?
I was hoping that this product would have had sample equations on one side of the card and then have the explanation or solved problem on the other side, so he can study with them. I don't think that definitions of math terms are going to help him prepare for this placement exam.
It would be nice if the definition for a system of equations actually contained an example of what a system of equations looked like, so the student could recognize it on the test.
