bland, and ignores racist immigration policies,

Amazing that in 1962, they were still calling it the [British] Empire Games. Ah well. The booklet gives a rundown on the events. 46 years ago. Perth was a lot smaller then, and far more insular. What the book neglects to mention is the iniquitous White Australia Policy. This restricted immigration to Europeans.
The book does mention the competitors from all over the Commonwealth. India, Malaysia, West Indies. None of whom would have been welcomed in Perth after these games.
