5.0 out of 5 stars Classic shoes, September 28, 2007

(REAL NAME)
I usually wear `80s-style running shoes, but this summer I wanted to go even more retro and get some canvas high tops. Converse and some of the other better-known brands had some flashy styles and patterns that looked fun, but when I actually checked them out in-store I was amazed at how noticeably shoddy even the models on display were: the foxing (side rubber strip) and toes were poorly vulcanized and looked like they'd start separating in weeks, not months, and most of the soles were made of a hard rubber with a strange flocked treatment that looked and felt dangerously slippery.

So in the end, for about $5 more than my local store was selling Chuck Taylors, I went with the PF Flyers Center Hi. These are visibly better-made than most of the canvas sneakers I've seen in stores, and a good deal more comfortable. They look as though they'd be narrow, but the toe is surprisingly roomy. I have to stick in some orthopedic arch supports for my high arches, but otherwise the insole is well-padded and comfortable. If you're used to shoes with thick EVA midsoles like the Reebok Classic running shoes (which I also love), they take awhile to get used to, but you'll love them once you do.

After getting these, I recommend looking around online for sites with alternate lacing methods, both for fun and more practical reasons. For instance, I use a wider criss-cross pattern to make them fit comfortably around my higher instep.

Also, a nice little touch: pull out the insoles and look in your shoes for a little green square of fabric...

4.0 out of 5 stars Sizes run small, October 5, 2011

Great fun shoe but buy one size bigger. My son wears a two, which is actually a little too big, so I ordered him a two. The Heely are very tight-especially across the toe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and Stylish!, September 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought these all black PF Flyers on the recommendation of Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez to wear for my wedding. After having stood in several weddings and putting up with outrageously uncomfortable tux shoes, I decided I would be comfortable for my own. The PFs fit the bill and turned heads (in a good way!) drawing positive comment from just about everyone. In fact, I actually bought a pair for my brother as my Best Man to wear as well, and he too was very satisfied.

I feel like these shoes are much better constructed than some of their other canvas counterparts (Converse) and they have held up through a lot of daily wear. I really like the style, kind of a geek/punk-chic that is just a little less obvious than Chucks and just a little bit different. I wear them to work every day and really enjoy them.

The one downside is that when I wear quarter socks with these shoes, sometimes the top of the sock will "zip" against some of the stitching on the inside back of the shoe and make a rather annoying noise. I originally thought it was a result of one of the insoles being loose but now I am all but positive it is the stitching. A minor annoyance, and likely a non-issue for 99% of the people who would buy them.

I love this shoes. The first day was a little painful just due to the fact I have wide feet but after that they are very nice to wear.

Shoes guaranteed to make a kid run faster and jump higher, P.F. Flyers.

I bought these shoes for Squatting and Deadlifting since I am a powerlifter. They are seriously some of the most comfortable and durable shoes I've ever put on my feet. Now, I can jump over the fence and get the baseball from Beast, hopefully James Earl Jones doesn't kill me.

I bought these for my grandchild and the only problem was that they went to 12 then jumped to a 4. Other then that he loves them and would rather wear them then a pair of boots.

5.0 out of 5 stars PF Flyers, January 12, 2011

My son loves his new PF Flyers. One of his favorite movies is Sand Lot. That is where he saw them and had to have a pair. I was suprised to see they were still out there. Adults who see them always smile. Good memories.
