Product Description

Product Description

Golf comes to the continent with PGA European Tour. Play on four of the highest-profile European courses: Quinta do Lago (Portugal), Druids Glen (Ireland), Kungsangen (Sweden), and K Club (Ireland), and compete against over 60 pros. Enter eight official championship tournaments, either as one of the pros or as a new golfer you create from scratch. If you do well here, you will see your ranking increase. If not, try the game's practice modes and driving range. In addition to the tournament mode, you'll also find stroke play, match play, skins match, and a jump-in-and-drive quick-play mode. In all of the game modes, up to four players can join in alternating turns. The game includes even the hushed commentary of BBC announcer Peter Allis, sophisticated weather effects, and wildlife sounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why Do Reviewers Hate This Game So Much?, June 14, 2000

This review is from: PGA European Tour (Game Cartridge)
I have read several reviews of this game and it has been ravaged and torn to pieces in each review. My questions is...which game were they playing? I think this game is excellent. I feared the worst when I popped it in, as I had preordered the game and received it after reading the reviews. Within 10 minutes my fears were erased. Right off the bat I have to agree that the graphics are not as crisp as you would like but of all the golf games I have this one is about average. Only the CD games I have look real sharp. As good as Mario Golf is, its graphics have problems too, as does Cyber Tiger, Waialae Country Club, St. Andrews Golf, Masters '98 etc. The camera for setting up shots is not very good but adequate, afterall this game is a true golf simulation and you wouldn't have arrows or arcs helping you in real life. In this game they serve to give you just enough help to make the shot but you have to shoot well yourself. The options are incredible and the create-a-golfer mode is decent, although you can only shoot right-handed it seems. Sorry, Phil Mikelsen. The practice mode is very helpful in refining your different shots. Pushing "B" enables you to pick the shot you want and club, and hitting intentional fades and draws is a snap. You have multiple choices for your swing and one of the four will suit your taste. The career Tour mode is difficult indeed and it will take awhile to qualify for the PGA European Tour but in real life again you would have to play many rounds in other tours and then go to Q-school to get your card. I see nothing wrong with this challenge and frankly wish all golf games had this to a degree. You have four courses to choose from and they look good I think. The golfers also have good reactions and mannerisms, like showing glee, disappointment, and body language to coax the ball where you want it. Kind of reminds me of a bowler waving the ball to a strike. The "standard mode" is too easy I agree. Putting is almost automatic but the "advanced mode" takes skill and I play it that way. The annoucer is somwhat redundant and sometimes comments on your shot before it lands. He can be turned off. The other sounds are very good I think. If average graphics are the biggest gripe with this game then its really nitpicking. In closing, I recommend this game to fans who really appreciate the challenge of golf. If you like arcade games, go to the mall!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Play, December 5, 2001

This review is from: PGA European Tour (Game Cartridge)
This is the most difficult golf game that I have ever played... it is set on four different European PGA courses that are very challenging (don't play intoxicated). Player graphics aren't the best, flight graphics arent the best, in fact its very hard to place a shot with the wind in your face. Overall, only buy this game if you get it used. I did and Im glad
