5.0 out of 5 stars Philips DVDR3475, October 6, 2008
This review is from: PHILIPS® DVD RECORDER (Electronics)
I've had this DVD recorder for almost a year now and haven't had any problems with it. The timer always works when it's supposed to, it has two s-video inputs, 720p or 1080p upconversion, and the controls are easy enough to figure out without always going back to the manual. Not only is it a great recorder but the upconversion makes it a great player as well. It also has a DV input connection in the front, which is handy for hooking up camcorders. A lot of people complain that it won't record programs that are encoded with DRM, but neither will any other recorder - that's why broadcasters like Showtime do it in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the price and the amazing picture, November 27, 2007
By
I picked up this upscaling DVD-R back in June. This is a terrific player to have until the HD-DVD and/or Blu-ray players significantly drop in price.
+ Out of the box, it is a piece of cake to set up. I have a $5 HDMI cord running from it and absolutely no issues what-so-ever.
+ The remote is large but easy to understand and operate.
+ The picture quality is amazing! All my DVD's look amazing in 1080p (upscale).
- somewhat longer disc loading times but it's not terrible (Long enough to get the popcorn and/or soda from the next room) The load time is shorter than going to the bathroom and coming back :)
+ Recording is a cinch (please note: it won't record in HD)

If you are looking for a great DVD-R, upscaling to 1080p, this is a great one until Blu-ray and/or HD-DVD players go down in price.

5.0 out of 5 stars No complaints, April 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PHILIPS® DVD RECORDER (Electronics)
I bought this item for my boyfriend for his birthday and we are both pleased with quality of the picture and sound from this recorder. A nice added bonus for us is that when we watch cable tv through the recorder (with the recorder selected as the source on the tv, and the cable box selected as the source on the recorder) the quality of the picture is improved! Non-HD cable channels now display in higher quality. The HD channels still look great, but the regular channels now look like HD channels. It took us a while to get the set up working properly (about 3 hours) but once we figured it out, we were more than pleased with what this product has to offer. Recording DVDs from a DVD player is also great. We did try (and fail) at recording DVDS from the playstation 3. So asisde from the apparent inability for this recorder to real the information from a playstation, we have absolutly no complaints!

I am sure having a 1080p HD television with a DVR box also set to 1080 as well as having the HDMI helps out with the image quality, but either way it goes, great product!!
