Trust Company "Downfall" is WAY OFF!, May 17, 2010
This review is from: PHMR-0209 POP HITS MONTHLY ROCK Karaoke CDG SEPTEMBER 2002 MULTIPLEX (Audio CD)
Usually Pop Hits Monthly is the best choice for rock karaoke, but this disc contains a major flaw that was pointed out by one of my singers recently: Track 9, Trust Company (aka TRUSTcompany) "Downfall", is unbelievably wrong and inaccurate and completely missing the chorus of the song! I was a bit skeptical when one of my karaoke singers pointed this out to me, but made a note of it to research later. I just looked up the song, and the single version and album version are identical, and just over 3 minutes long. The karaoke version on this CDG is 4:27! I compared the actual song to the karaoke version on this disc, and aside from the instrumental intro and parts of the first verse, it's not even close! I will be replacing it in my karaoke books with the Sound Choice version, which is quite good.
I do still feel this CDG is worth having. There are two songs on here where the karaoke versions are the best I've ever sang to: Track 1, Red Hot Chili Peppers "By The Way" and Track 8, Seether "Fine Again".
As for the rest of the disc, I'm not familiar with the songs enough to really make a judgment, but I can say I've never had any singer complain about them while I've been hosting karaoke. Pop Hits Monthly Rock/Rocker CDGs are usually versions of awesome quality, and I'm extremely curious how this karaoke version of "Downfall" got so far off. But buyer beware, if you're looking to buy this karaoke disc for that one song, look elsewhere. I did find a decent version elsewhere in my karaoke collection: Sound Choice. It's on Disc #3333, which is PowerPicks Pop/Rock Vol. 181.
