By itself this light will probably not provide enough light for your needs (2 of them may do the job). I have found the umbrella on this not to be very effective at dispersing the light, and I am currently planning on replacing it. I would suggest spending a little more for a better lighting setup.

Why yes. The stand rises over 6 feet high.

The umbrella and the stand would work for an off-camera flash but you would have to add a cold shoe for your flash... The light will do you no good as a flash. I would suggest just an inexpensive stand with an umbrella holder and an included cold shoe for your flash. There are tons of videos on YouTube you can watch... just search "off camera flash" --- Plus AdoramaTV on YouTube has great videos.

The Umbrella is white. I have never seen a photography light with a black umbrella.

It is probably not enough on it's own, but for additional lighting, yes.
