2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, June 29, 2009
This review is from: A PHP Compiler for the .NET Platform (Paperback)
There are so few books on the subject of compiling to .Net that this one is worth a read anyway. The book is based on the php4mono project ([..]). I really expected it to be about phalanger, which is the most established and complete port of PHP to the .Net runtime. The book is 145 pages total (not including an appendix with IL grammar which you can get anywhere and some indexes and stuff). The first 100 pages are spent explaining PHP, .Net architecture and CIL. The other 45 pages are spent explaining a very simple lexer/parser generated using C#Flex and C#Cup. Never heard of them? Don't worry, nobody has. The book comes as short and not very tasty. [...] is still the best around.
