4.0 out of 5 stars Very GRAPHIC, lot's of procedures, but a little basic
I bought this book in order to take the PHTLS exam, and i found a extremely GRAPHIC and well organized BOOK, FULL COLOR with a lot of procedures.
It is a good book, NOTWHITSTANDING that is a little basic, and it lacks of deep explanations, is not a deep-trauma book keep that in mind. The CD is great comes with real videos explaining lots of procedures, it even...

3.0 out of 5 stars Trauma Life Support
Nice review of BLS and ALS principles and is a good resource for information on emergent trends like use of tourniquets or hemostatic dressings. As a text for learning ALS skills, though, it is lacking in detail or clear photos or diagrams. Photos of intubation are at a distance that makes it hard to see the fine detail required in the technique; images of the cords...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent trauma reference for first responders, October 10, 2005
This book is an excellent piece of literature for first responders wanting to expand their knowledge of handling trauma patients.

This book deals with the topic using an entirely new and innovative approach. First, they start talking about the kinematics that result in trauma, and focus on teaching the reader on how interpreting and figuring out the event preceeding the trauma can give a better understanding of the injuries (external and potentially internal) the patient is suffering, and how to care for them, on the pre-hospital environment, without delaying transport to an appropriate medical facility because of executing unnecesary interventions.

The book not only deals with advanced life support procedures, but it deals greatly with basic procedures, so in the end, PHTLS is suitable for ANYONE that works with trauma patients on the pre-hospital environment.

When you buy the PHTLS book, be aware that you are going to read a book made with a totally differente approach. Think later of the methodology of care the PHTLS tries to propagate and you'll find out that, today, it is the best approach available for dealing with trauma patients.

You won't regret this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars PreHospital TLS, September 1, 2008
This review is from: PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support, 6e (Phtls: Basic & Advanced Prehospital Trauma Life Support) (Paperback)
Excellent book. Well organized, direct and practical. Fairly easy to read and the approach is very interesting. We have used some of the techiques described, and all have been effective. Worth the money and its a good way to improve/expand your skills.

PHTLS 6th edition, had numerous upgrades from the last edition. This book was very informative of the new procedures we are seeing in prehospital care. It was written for paramedic level of procedure, but was still written to be understood by an EMT-B. The DVD was excellent example of the hands on procedures, unlike the 5th editions CD. A must read for the emergency care personnel.

5.0 out of 5 stars NREMT-P review of PHTLS (good), June 11, 2010
This review is from: PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support, 6e (Phtls: Basic & Advanced Prehospital Trauma Life Support) (Paperback)
this is a great book about trauma.. its great for reviewing pt assessment skills and basic trauma plus burn care.. couple other guys has complained that the book doesn't cover IVs or intubation enough.. or show detailed pictures of these skills.. if you need these skilled showed to you.. then maybe you should have the P removed from after your name. Advanced Life Support Skills from Brady is a good book for reviewing ALS skills.. but this is a great book for reviewing trauma. I'd buy a newer version when it comes out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, bad DVD, December 24, 2009

This review is from: PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support, 6e (Phtls: Basic & Advanced Prehospital Trauma Life Support) (Paperback)
The book is interesting, well written and has excellent graphics.

The DVD is of much less quality and of questionable value. I really did not like the "Rapid Trauma Assessment" and the "Non-Critical Trauma Assessment". They left out steps, the audio quality was horrible and the providers seemed almost bored with the scenario. It was probably the worst assessment video I have ever seen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the Brady Vol. 4 Trauma Care!, March 12, 2009
This review is from: PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support, 6e (Phtls: Basic & Advanced Prehospital Trauma Life Support) (Paperback)
Yes, this is a much, much better book relating to trauma care than the Brady Paramedic series Volume 4 Trauma Care! As with the Mosby books, prefer them over many of the Brady Books. As for the PHTLS book, the photos, diagrams, charts, etc., are way more professional looking. All of the information is laid out and organized in a much better format and easier to follow along with. I can't always say the same for the Brady book. I wished my paramedic class would have used this book over the Brady Trauma book! If I was a paramedic instructor, I would diffinitely use the PHTLS book over the Brady book! If you are going to invest the time and effort into a paramedic program, I would purchase this book ahead of time and study it well! You will more than likely have a better understanding going into trauma care portion of the program. The chapters that stood out to me was those pertaining to gun shots, chest trauma, head trauma and burn care.

5.0 out of 5 stars PHTLS review, January 25, 2009
This review is from: PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support, 6e (Phtls: Basic & Advanced Prehospital Trauma Life Support) (Paperback)
A good supplement for learning experience. Interesting background information at the start. Good details in the text, review questions that work, & scenarios at the beginning of ea chapter with solution at the end. Aimed at learning not at just passing the EMT exam. Good detailed information with the DVD backing up each skill described. There are a lot of good diagrams backed up with actual photographs of injuries with treatment. Well thought out instructions in each chapter, from single incidence to mass trauma. I am very glad to add this to my library.
