1.0 out of 5 stars new strips indicate too low, November 29, 2009
This review is from: PHion Balance Diagnostic Ph Test Strips, 4.5 - 9.0 ph Range, 90-Count (Health and Beauty)
I have purchased their previous product, the two-colour pHion strips, for years and have sent many people to their website to purchase them, even if one of the colors had to be ignored to get the proper reading. (This may be why they changed to this single-color version.) However, I still have some of the two-color strips and test strips from another manufacturer that are consistent between their readings. These "NEW pHion Test Stix" have proved to be useless. They consistently indicate a very low pH, at least 2 points lower than both of the other strips, and their sensitivity is extremely poor. (I had purchased 10 bottles through their website and will be sending 9 back.) A low reading serves to promote their other products; this is unethical if it produces erroneously low results.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not work with water, November 14, 2009

These strips do not work with water or any other non-ionized solution. See the PhIon FAQ on their site which says, "These strips do NOT test against water or chemicals. They need to be tested against high ionized solutions. Water is not a high ionized solution and other chemicals may dilute the strip to be unreadable."

They do work with urine or saliva, but you cannot test them using water or other solutions.

The product information on this should be updated to clarify this issue. There are several negative reviews where people think the strips do not work because there is no warning in the product information that the strips cannot be tested with water or similar solutions.

two subsequent diagnostic lab tests in the weeks that followed, with no treatment to cure an elevated ph, showed a ph of 6.5 exactly what these strips had told me.....

if you need to check your ph, these strips really work.

5.0 out of 5 stars accuracy of pH test strips, December 17, 2008

I was instructed to test my pH levels by my doctor, so I purchased the litmus paper strips first, but was not satisfied with the results. The results were difficult to read. However, I ordered these test strips and discovered they were easier to interpret. These strips show a wide range with smaller pH increments. I definitely recommend this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for people with Interstitial Cystitis, March 12, 2009

This review is from: PHion Balance Diagnostic Ph Test Strips, 4.5 - 9.0 ph Range, 90-Count (Health and Beauty)
I am a sufferer of Interstitial Cystitis and upon recommendation from a naturalistic doctor of medicine I bought these test strips to keep track of my urine's acidity. These test strips are fairly easy to use but I find reading them can be a little confusing at first because so many of the colors on the color chart are similar. After practicing a bit this became easier and now I feel I can confidently read and keep my acid levels in check.
Although it says in the booklet that comes with them that the acid levels should be around 6.5 for urine, I find that with my IC a level closer to 7 or just slightly above keeps my flares at bay.
I find that the price here on Amazon is at least 5 dollars cheaper than on pHion's own website. A very good product for a decent price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Accurate, February 10, 2009
This review is from: PHion Balance Diagnostic Ph Test Strips, 4.5 - 9.0 ph Range, 90-Count (Health and Beauty)
I have been on a very strict diet and needed to know - accurately - what my pH was - these have been wonderful! I test to see what my mouth pH is and "out-go" urine is to see how I am processing my food - it has been VERY helpful to show what is working and what is not.

Works great. Just be careful when you open the package, cause when I did the lid came off and all the strips fell out on the floor. The inner case isn't sealed and doesn't have a catch to secure the lid. BTW, the picture is wrong -- it's not a bottle, it's a little box with a clear plastic container inside.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tests more acidic compared to other strips, October 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PHion Balance Diagnostic Ph Test Strips, 4.5 - 9.0 ph Range, 90-Count (Health and Beauty)
Water should have a pH of 7.0, and when we bought these strips, we also bought a different brand so we could make sure we got some accurate strips.

The other strips we got were "Phinex Diagnostic Ph Test Strips, 80ct -2 pack (160 strips)"

We tested these using water, which should be 7.0. and the other strips, the Phinex, came out right at 7.0.

These strips (the PHion) tested 6.5-6.75 (and we tested multiple times).

We also tested these strips against our own pH levels and compared to the Phinex strips, these came out acidic again.

At first, you might think that it's not that far off (.5 or .25), but a pH rating of 6 is Ten Times more acidic than a 7.0, so it's important to have accurate strips and not some that are 5 times off.

The other thing to note is that if a lot of liquid is left on the strip and you hold the strip down at an angle, the color of the bottom pH tab which is usually more green will seep into the top tab. This could confuse your results as the top tab might be yellow or orange underneath.

I do like how these are packaged, the bottle makes it easy to get the strips out, and the strips are bigger than the Phinex strips we compared against; however, the accuracy for us is what is more important, and we feel that these strips test more acidic than they should.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible unhelpful and uneducated customer service, inaccurate product, February 22, 2011
This review is from: PHion Balance Diagnostic Ph Test Strips, 4.5 - 9.0 ph Range, 90-Count (Health and Beauty)
This product ACTUALLY has two Ph sensitive boxes on the strip, not one as shown. There seems to be no way to have both boxes match to the same reading on the chart and the people at PhIon have NO explanation as to how to read the strips when one box matches one place on the chart and the other box matches another place on the chart.

Which box do I read then? (my question) "Well, you would read the box with the lower Ph reading, I guess." (their answer).

Do you have someone there who actually understands this product and how it works? (my question) "I can take down your name and phone number and have a product specialist call you back." (their answer)

My advice: Get a Ph strip that actually works and save yourself all this hassle.

Poor product, poor customer support!

After failed attempts at buying this kind of a pH testing kit at local drugstores, I (once again) turned to amazon and bought this one online. It is easy to use, comes with detailed instructions for a two-day test and evaluation, as well as a pamphlet with useful background information on pH balance.
