5.0 out of 5 stars If you can find one, grab it! You're not going to find a better mixer under $300, March 1, 2007
This review is from: PIONEER PRO BATTLE MIXER G* (Electronics)
Prior to the introduction of DJM 909, a DJM 707 mixer listed for $899. Right after that, Pioneer slashed the price to $299, because it was no longer in its future plans. You are getting a 900 dollar mixer for 1/3 the cost!

Price isn't everything. Sound is everything. Don't kid yourself if you think that a crossfader alone makes a mixer - only if you are a bedroom dj or dj at house parties on house speakers or worse MTX speakers. If you want undistored, high-fidelity sound going from your mixer to an amp or powered speakers, then I recommend all Pioneer mixers.

How does it compare to a Vestax PMC-07 or a Rane TTM 56? I have had three mixers from Vestax: 05, 06, and 07. I used the Rane a few times. From an objective view on sound alone, they are subpar in comparison to pioneer mixers. There is a reason why virtually all self-respecting clubs have either a DJM 600 or DJM 3000 (both are four-channel mixers sharing identical parts - latter is rack mountable). DJM 909 is basically a DJM600 with only two channels, but with much better crossfader, which is a must for dj's who scratch. DJM 707 is basically a DJM 909 without the sound effects; it has the same crossfader as a DJM 909. Get the picture?

When does a scratch dj ever need to flange? I can see the use in having an echo or delay sound effect to transition between unmixable songs. But, if you know how to mix, you know how to mix. You don't need the sound effects.

The crossfader on the DJM 707 is an optical fader. It's indestructible. I must have beat it to death, but still on the original. The fader curve on the volume and cross faders can be adjusted with a set of rotary knobs. It has a hamster switch. It also has a dedicated transform switch for each channel (in addition to phono/line switches). That's not all. DJM 707 gives you an option of adjusting the feel of the crossfader. You insert a hex wrench that comes with the unit and adjust the crossfader to be either tighter or looser. I don't like it too loose cos it bounces off the edge to much. But, you can adjust that so there is no problem.

After about 2 years of use, I sold it for exactly what I bought for - $249. If you can find one, let me know - I'll buy one from you at that price. I miss it!

I've dj'ed in the States and in Europe (yes, I did get paid - don't ask me how much - let's just say that it's not chump change). I'm not a wedding dj. I used to dj anywhere from a small lounge to a large club. I've used just about every mixer that used to be the industry standard.

You decide. I'm just giving your my experience.

This is a great mixer for a DJ who wants to get a quality, sturdy mixer (unlike entry level mixers that break after a month or two) but can't afford a top of the line Rane or Vestax. The mixer has a lot of nice features (especially the independently adjustable fade controls and the feeling adjustment on the cross-fader) and overall is of top quality. It doesn't feel quite as indestructable as the Rane TTM56, but it's definitely built to last, which is the most desirable quality of a mixer. It was designed to be used in tandem with Pioneer CD-J's, but I have mine set up with turntables and it works great. I've had mine for about 5 months and love it. No problems at all, and it's just as good as when it came out of the box.

Unfortunately, Pioneer has stopped production of them so there won't be any more coming around. I've seen them available still in a lot of places, so if you might still be able to find one. If you do, definitely get it because there really is no other mixer out there of this good quality at this price. I highly recommend it.

(If you're willing to spend a lot more, the upscale twin 909 is of the same quality with a bunch of high-end features)
