The oil field probably provides the biggest market for cotton chore gloves. However, these gloves are not quite the thickness of regular roughneck gloves that have a relatively short usable life after a day of handling heavy steel equipment and pipes. They are only provided in one large size fits all, and they can be shed quickly if necessary to escape getting mashed fingers.Roughneck gloves are usually provided in two grades, thinner summer grade and the thicker winter gloves that really do keep your fingers toasty, at least while everything remained dry on the floor during sub-freezing temperatures, but I haven't seen them advertised here. There is a third type called "Dots" that have resin dots on the palm and were provided for the workers drilling steam wells. The dots would provide enough space to keep from frying your hands while setting the scorching hot pipe back as it was pulled out of the steam well. You had to be quick, or get burnt. Some might like the dots because they show a tendency to provide a better grip, but they wear out just as quickly as the others. Apparently there is still a huge demand for this lighter weight cotton glove for all around protection, and they are convenient whether working in a warehouse, or a lumber yard, or just doing some needed gardening around your home. They can usually be found at any local grocery or hardware store. An inexpensive glove that does the job, and when they get dirty they might take a couple of washings before finally wearing out. I get good service out of them while I'm at work driving the forklift on those cold dark swing-shift evenings. A stack of the winter gloves would be nice to have, but these work just fine.

In response to the previous review saying the sewed seams are loose. They are made that way and are the industry standard in oilfield work. The purpose of the loose stitching is if you get the glove caught in machinery as you pull your hand away the glove is supposed to tear away at the stitches and it increases the chance of you getting your hand free from the glove. Not many people know this but you do now.
