I can't believe I never had one of these before. I stay in my camper when working out of town. In the winter I would make up hoses with heat tape and insulation all taped up. This thing works in sub zero weather without insulation. This allows it to be used to heat the sewer line as well.Just route it under the sewer line and if its really cold just wrap the hose up with the sewer line cover. Thermostat is on the male end at the camper connection and the A/C plug is at the faucet end.

We have 5 horses and live in NE Ohio so it can get pretty cold. This used to require dragging the hose out of the house, watering, draining it and dragging it back in and it sitting in our dining room until spring. No matter how much we drained it, it always seemed to freeze if left outside. I bought one of these from a friend who needed a longer one and my life is SO much easier!! I don't even keep it plugged in all the time. I plug it in about 15 minutes before I need to use it and whatever ice is in there thaws and I can use it. I always unhook it from the spigot when not in use. I use this on the end (http://www.amazon.com/Gilmour-Garden-Connector-Shut-Off-03V/dp/B0006U66B6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1297284033&sr=8-6) and I don't even take that off-I just make sure that it is open and pointing down so any water can drain out before it freezes. My only complaint is that the hose is pretty stiff. It gets better (it got better even after using it once) and I think it is well worth it to have this hose.

We purchased this heated hose for use in our barn and it arrived about December 15th 2010 (today is Jan 3rd, 2011).. We used the hose through the winter months of 2010 and in March we put it up in the barn storage for the summer months.. Last week I brought down the hose and connected it up and plugged it in since this is the first time were heading in to freezing temps.. and last night is the first time the temps got down to about 25 degrees ( or colder).. to my surprise I went to top off our horses' buckets and the hose was frozen up solid..Keep in mind, were about 2 weeks after having it for the year.. but I figured it was up in the storage area for 6 months... I contacted the seller and got a note back that there is nothing they can do for us... (2 weeks.. are you kidding me)... Well, I"M off to contact the manufacturer and see if they will do anything for us.. I just thought I'd write this in the review section as it obviously failed in the first year.... but unless it's freezing out... there is no way to check it.. so, I'm out $124.00 for the 6 months usage... Live and Learn. Good News, I just got off the phone with the Manufacture.. they are determnied to help me out . they have given me some suggestions to check and see if I can get the thermostat reset... if not, they seem like they will help in a possible replacment.. I am a happy gator that I actualy got to speak someone at the company and get some help.. Keep watching I'll update the post as I get this resolved.

So far so good with the pirit hose. What I mean to say is we are in our RV in cold weather, and last week it got to zero and below with the wind chill and the hose did fine!! I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying it!

In the past, winter was a time of carrying 5 gal buckets of water to replenish drinking/swimming water for my waterfowl. The heated hose is saving me time and labor.

We bought this hose last winter and already this winter it doesn't work. We put it up in a sealed plastic container for the summer months and brought it out again for winter and it has alread stopped working a month later. What a waste of money!

I used this hose to run from my heated well house to my heated dog kennel. It was inside, on concrete and protected from everything but the cold. It worked fine for almost three months then froze solid. Manufacturer's website says they will stand behind it for one year. I'll see. Meantime I am carrying water for a kennel full of hunting dogs.

I bought one of these in November of 2011. I had just moved to a new location in Wyoming and the frost free hydrant is not close to the water tank for my horses. I bought a 50 foot hose thinking this would solve my winter watering problems. WRONG! This first time I used it, it worked fine. Of course it would as it had never had any water in it. I drained it,disconnected it and left it plugged in. Two days later the temps were around zero and day time highs at 20. Guess what? The hose was frozen and no water. Also the hose was so stiff that it is almost impossible to use. You would think that if it the gets warm enough to melt ice in the hose as Pirit claims in the FAQ's on their website, that it would remain somewhat flexible. This is not the case. But then again I don't think the hose I bought ever worked and the heat never came on. So now I have a brand new 50 foot garden hose for next summer. Most expensive garden hose I ever bought! I ended up using an old green hose that I had used before and drained and hung on the fence. Worked fine and my horses have water. I would not recommend this hose to my worse enemy! Waste of money.

Does not work at all,
This review is from: PIRIT H50 Water Line 50-Foot x 5/8-Inch Heated Water Hose (Lawn & Patio)
The hose froze right away when the weather was below freezing. (13F over night, 23F during the day)Heater does not even turn on unless the thermostat it self is below freezing. Well. That is no good as it will get warmer faster than rest of the hose. Air temperature was way below freezing, but thermostat still did not turn on. (check with current meter). I sprayed duster upside down to cool the thermostat way below freezing point. It turned on for a while, but quickly heated up and turned off without melting already frozen part of the hose. If you leave thermostat part (end of the hose) on the ground it will be even worse as heat from ground is enough to keep thermostat from turning on. This is very expensive piece of junk and not much better than regular garden hose. Wrapping garden hose with heat tape will do much better job. |
