From: A Winter-Camper: Short Version: WOW! Buy it. Worth the $$.,
This review is from: PIRIT PWL-02-50 Water Line 50-Foot x 5/8-Inch Heated Water Hose (Lawn & Patio)
Purchase Options: I shopped for heated hose options on the Internet. I was surprised to only find two options. The one is of course Pirit and the other is a super-high-quality custom built hose, but so expensive it was not ever a purchase option. Environment: I will be using my RV at destination ski resorts in the future. I am currently attending a university, living in Eastern Washington at the base of the Cascade Mountains in a 27' fifth wheel. I have used the hose for two winters. It is parked 45' away from any structures. Winter temperatures have ranged from 32 to -20 F (both hard winters, so much for global warming). The hose works flawlessly. This winter the extension cord powering the hose got bumped. I noticed the snow starting to cover the hose, alerting me I had lost power. The hose had started to freeze. Per the directions, I simply plugged the hose back in and it continues to work flawlessly. Craftsmanship: The hose is sturdy, best quality of garden hose I have ever seen, large diameter, high quality materials through-out, good looking with excellent fittings and assembly. It detects temperatures at both ends, in case one end is inside a protected environment. Durability: Having used this hose for two years, I would never buy the competitors hose. I could buy six, 50' Pirit hoses compared to the one of the competitors, and have the benefit of a new hose every so often. I roll it in larger 4' loops. From a structural standpoint, if taken care of, this hose should last 10-20 years. I would assume from an electrical standpoint the life expectancy to be shorter. I have no idea how long that would be, but obvious handling and care of the hose will play a huge role. I would be satisfied to get 6-10 years of service out of this hose, but that's just me. Keep in mind, I have the hose plugged in the entire winter, and the hose is in use throughout the rest of the year for many of those months. Negatives: The only negative I could possibly come up with is taste. This is no different from any other potable RV hose. The hose is an approved potable delivery system. Once I run the water out of the length of the hose the taste improves until tasting fresh. I have found no other negatives for this product. Reference other reviewers comments on having to disconnect after every use; perhaps a better way to state that is that any connection at the hose fitting or beyond will need to be insulated. This to me is only common sense and if that faucet had not been insulated it would be frozen in the first place. In short anything beyond the Pirit hose connections need to be insulated or wrapped. Note: where the Pirit hose connects to my RV I wrap with half-inch thick and 3 inches long slit-foam insulation and have had no problems Further Information: I had a regular potable RV hose connected to the heated hose with only the fittings exposed to the weather, hanging outside of the door (door notch). I figured the thermodynamics of the water would keep the water in the fittings from freezing. (at 10 degrees F). As per the Pirit instructions / information, the fittings did freeze (but, did not break). When all else fails believe the manual! LOL I cannot imagine it ever being cold enough to freeze this hose when plugged in. For wherever it is, I do not want to be for long. It is rated for -40 F. My RV is rated for -40F (I do not want to have to pay the propane bill at that temperature) LOL. Contraindicated by Pirit, I bought 4' links of slit-foam insulation wraps at $1.00 apiece at Lowe's hardware for the hose. This is only to stop sun and weather damage as the hose is used all year long and exposed to 100+ degree temperatures. However, I have had no negative issues using the insulation. Personally, I think it is a great way to prolong and protect the hose. Support: Prior to buying, I asked Pirit several questions via e-mail. I got an immediate response and very personalized and detailed information. The e-mail response to me was concise and honest and very reassuring. Post blah blah blah: If you haven't gotten the message that I think this is an outstanding product and very reasonably priced, than I have failed. JB

Took a chance with this not knowing how well it worked. Turned out to be very well made and performs as advertised. Spendy, but better priced than at the farm and ranch supply. No more hauling buckets of water to the animal trough during these Montana winters. I made a wood protector for the section that vehicles drive over. Needs to be handled a little more carefully than a standard hose.

Hose must be disconnected from faucet after every use.,
This review is from: PIRIT PWL-02-50 Water Line 50-Foot x 5/8-Inch Heated Water Hose (Lawn & Patio)
The hose has to be disconnected from the faucet after every use. This is not mentioned in the description. The hose connector does not heat, and if left on the faucet when not in use, the faucet will freeze. If you don't mind screwing and unscrewing the connector in cold temps after every use, this is a good product for you. A "quick disconnect" adaptor from Home Depot might be make this product more user friendly.

Ok. Not so good after all. It worked very well for one season and I followed all the instructions perfectly. After the winter, I very carefully wound it up and hung it in the barn until next year. When I plugged it in the next winter, it did not work no matter what I tried or what outlets I used. And by then, it was past the return policy. Very expensive to only work for one season and needless to say, I am VERY disappointed!

Pirit heated hose,

This review is from: PIRIT PWL-02-50 Water Line 50-Foot x 5/8-Inch Heated Water Hose (Lawn & Patio)
I ordered 2 -50 ft heated hoses last season. After a couple of weeks, the fitting fell off one so it couldn't be screwed onto the faucet. Clamping wouldn't work. I called Pirit and they sent another which worked for the rest of the season.
This year they had 100 ft hoses and I ordered 2 of those. On the first day that I required heated hoses, one of the 50 ft hoses from last year didn't work (still frozen after being plugged in a long time). On the second day one of the 2 new 100 ft hoses was frozen solid in 18 degree outdoor temp. I left it plugged in 4 hrs but it never unthawed. The second 100 ft hose worked but after being plugged in for 2 hrs. So out of 4 hoses, 2 have failed, one of the new ones after one day. Either the heating element or thermostat doesn't work. I know my outdoor electrical outlets work because I tested them first. I'm expecting a problem with the second new hose tomorrow. It would be a great product if it worked. There are obviously some problems with the components or manufacturing because a 50% defective rate in unacceptable. I'd warn anyone to get only one hose and make sure it works for at least a few weeks before getting any more.

I purchased this heated water hose three weeks ago for use with my RV. It was advertised for use with potable water. I am very disappointed with this hose. It does heat, but it is NOT good for potable water. Regardless of the amount of water we have run through this hose, there is still a garden hose smell and taste in the water that goes through the hose. The water smells, the laundry smells, everything smells like a bad garden hose not intended for potable water. I would not recommend this hose unless it was for barn or shop use and potable water was not needed and you do not care if the water smells and tastes bad.

Offensive odor,

This review is from: PIRIT PWL-02-50 Water Line 50-Foot x 5/8-Inch Heated Water Hose (Lawn & Patio)
Purchased for use with my RV. Found hose to have a very offensive chemical odor. The odor was transmitted to the water. Used continuisouly for approx 7 days and the odor did not subside. It only stands to reason to me that whatever is leaching from the hose to create such a bad "chemical" odor cannot be healthy to drink. As far as it's heating capability, I cannot comment. I used it in temperatures only down to 31 degrees. Returned to Amazon for refund.

plain doesn't work,

I bought this hose thinking it would be the answer to hauling buckets of water. Lots of money, but hauling water is not fun!
I used it once, fine. Course, it didn't have any water in it, so of course it worked! Next time, temperature was oh, 15 degrees or so. Plugged it in, nothing. Well, I figured, maybe it's just too cold. I don't work so well at fifteen degrees either! So I tried again on a warmer day, temps in the upper twenties or even more in the sun. Waited 90 minutes, nothing. Maybe I didn't wait long enough. This morning, I plugged it in and left it turned on, lying in the sun all day. High today, mid or upper twenties. This evening I hooked up the hydrant, turned it on. Nothing. Arrrgh! As far as i can tell, it's worthless. Now I will admit, I have TWO hooked together. Maybe they can't heat that little region where they meet? Seems like it's not unreasonable to expect them to heat enough to thaw there as well. After all, if the end is frozen, how's the water going to come out? Anyway, save your money, just drag your regular hose in and out of the house. It's messy, but cheaper and, most importantly, it works!

This is the answer to RVing in the cold, no more winding up the hose or draining well worth the money

This worked for four wonderful months, and then, on the coldest week we've had (temps around 10-15 F) we have no water! Seems the heating element went out? I'm waiting for amazon to contact me about replacing it.
