5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and easy!
Purchased the picture keeper hoping for an easy way to keep all my photos on one flash drive. This one fits the bill. All you do is insert the flash drive into a USB port, click on Backup Photos and the flash does all the work. It searches all your files for any .jpg or .jpeg files. On a second backup I added bitmap (.bmp) files and it went and found those. I keep all...

1.0 out of 5 stars not as advertised
I have about 4500 photos on Iphoto. I bought the 8GB Picture Keeper which advertises that it stores 8000 photos, thinking that would be enough with room left over. I just tried to download my photos and it downloaded about 3000 photos and said it was full, buy a bigger capacity. Even if I buy another one, because of the automatic software, this one will be wasted...

I keep all my data on a drive separate than my programs, so all I had to do was go to Browse, lead it to the drive and it worked great! I would recommend this product. I purchased the 8GB just to be on the safe side. Plenty of room. There is a technical support phone number which I have not had to call.

Absolutely LOVED this little gadget. Used to consolidate 3 separate computers photos into one little gadget. Super easy to use, even someone lacking computer knowledge can use it. Just plug it in and let it do its work. Love the little pop up for reminder of monthly 'backup' of your photos. Would definitely recommend this product.

I have about 4500 photos on Iphoto. I bought the 8GB Picture Keeper which advertises that it stores 8000 photos, thinking that would be enough with room left over. I just tried to download my photos and it downloaded about 3000 photos and said it was full, buy a bigger capacity. Even if I buy another one, because of the automatic software, this one will be wasted because the bigger one will automatically download everything again--there are no directions for just adding the photos you haven't already stored. Further, I can't seem to just look at the photos from the drive itself to see what it has on it--it has to be opened up in Iphoto, which then proceeds to download all the photos. I don't need doubles on my computer. Yuck, why didn't I just buy a plain old flash drive?

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed, January 8, 2009

After both my wife and I lost digital images due to problems with our current backup system, I am delighted to find a device that automatically takes care of preserving our images. And it's PC + Mac-friendly. Why didn't someone think of this before?

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Peasy Backup Device, March 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this as an easy way to back up my digital photos and haven't been disappointed. Plugged it in, followed the online prompts and it did it's job.
Now, for those of you who aren't particularly tech savvy like me--realize that the estimated capacity is based on each picture being 1 mb. Unknowingly my camera was set to the highest resolution so each of my pictures takes up almost 3 mb so I could only get 1/3 of the photos I expected on Picture Keeper.
The best part---when I e-mailed customer service they were incredibly prompt in getting back to me and walked me through everything about the photos on my computer and all about the device. The young man I spoke with couldn't have been nicer to work with and easy to understand & patient!--right in Atlanta, GA!
I am going to order more and keep them in our safety deposit box.
As it was explained to me this isn't an organizing device--it is a pure, easy backup device to be used in the event that my computer crashes, it gets destroyed, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, February 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I run a PC repair/services company and this product has been wonderful for my clients. External storage devices can be complicated (especially for the average user) and one of the most common issues my clients have is backing up by themselves (pictures in particular). It has made my life easier as well since I don't have to write automated backup programs/scripts, I just give them a picture keeper and they are good to go.

Very easy to use, however, extremely slow to download/upload between my iMac and Macbook Pro. It also does not appear that it will hold nearly the number of claimed photos. I am impressed with its size and simplicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect photo file, November 9, 2011
This review is from: PK-8 Picture Keeper (8,000 photo capacity) (Personal Computers)
My mac hard drive recently died taking all of my data and photos. I had previously saved photos on the picture keeper and they were safe. I originally bought one of these from Hamner Schne and the shipping was very high, just purchased 5 from Picture Keeper direct and paid only 6.50 shipping for entire bundle.

This is a great product and I love that it automatically just saves new pictures instead of you having to worry about previously saved pics being saved again. Great product!

Sure, it finds and copies pictures like it's supposed to. But 8,000? I don't think so. In real life, with real photos, it's about a quarter of that in my experience. Maybe I did something wrong. Basically, it's too good to be true. You're better off with a simple flash drive.
