It took several tries to get the right parts assembly. One unit was incorrectly provided with one too many long bolts and one too few short bolts and one too few cinch nuts. I cut off the bolt and got a cinch nut at Lowes. The quality is better than expected. I think I will have to modify the units to fit on my Dodge Caravan cross bars. It also does not fit on a Toyota RAV4. These cars have oval shaped tapered cross bars and I am going to make a pad to absorb some of the space on the edges. These racks would work well with round or square bars.

I got a pair of these racks for an amazing price. Installation was very easy and so far they have held strong. Slightly smaller guage than some of the other more expensive Thules or Yaks but like I said earlier, they've performed well.

I love these racks so far. They've carried two 12 foot, 50 lb. kayaks on top of my CRV with no problem. They're stable and have been very structurally sound. They were an unbeatable price and shipping was extremely fast. They do take awhile to assemble, and I'm generally fast at assembling things, but be patient and it'll all come together. The only flaw I see in this product is that they're not 100% flush against my rounded roof rack cross bars, but they've been bombproof so far nonetheless.

I would have rated this product at 5 stars but the supplied straps to secure the kayak aren't very good. I used small ratchet straps instead and they worked perfectly. I can load Coleman Hooligan 85 on top of Chevy Suburban by myself and secure. Drove 75mph on Interstate for 6 hours with no problems.

J-racks are a wonderful thing for anyone that wants to put a boat or two on the roof of their vehicle; the price of the mainstream J-racks is not a wonderful thing. For less than the price of one "Name Brand" models, you get two - though there are a few caveats for the shopper:

1. 5 separate pieces and six bolts to assemble each rack (total of four racks): A cordless drill with a deep-well 1/2" socket is mandatory if you want to spend less than an hour on assembly.
2. Tie down straps are not the greatest quality. Nylon webbing is thin and when you tighten the straps they feel stretchy.
3. Boats do not feel solidly mounted - this is due to the J-racks being a bit flexy. Note: this is not a problem - just something I wanted to mention. I have two 50 lb. boats and they seem rock-solid when driving 60 mph.

Those are the only nitpicks I have - and they're really not that big: I just wanted to share my experience. All I know is that putting the boats on and taking them off takes 5 minutes instead of 10-15 minutes of wrestling with a "Kayak Stacker" and two long straps that hold both boats.

I'm happy. :)

J-racks were ordered late Sunday night and were here on Tuesday! Took a bit to put them all together but once assembled they looked good. Just make sure you use the shorter, long bolts (center hole) for the clamping hold downs if you have smaller crossbars.

Only complaint that I have is that the lash straps are too short and didn't make it around my kayaks to the short end of the J-bar. I had to use a bungee cord to complete my tie down. I have 2 Old Town 12' kayaks. I called Pack'em Trailer Rack Superstore and their customer service just blew me off saying that nobody else has ever complained. They probably did me a favor though because these straps aren't of the best quality to say the least! As you read other reviews, many others have replaced these already!

If you are on a budget or a newbie like me and trying things out, it's a good place to start for the price. I'm sure I'll look into the fold down style J-racks down the road so I can get my car back into the garage without taking them off.

I've been mulling over getting a set of 'J' craddles for a while but could not afford 2 sets (for my wife's & my own kayak) at a reasonable price. Most of the ones out there are REDICULOUS costing upwards of $150 a pair! These on the other hand, are great for the money. There's a bit of assembly required but nothing a good kayaker can't handle. The instructions are less than perfect but you can figure it out. The craddles hold fast to my factory racks and keep my boats secure even at 70 mph highway speeds for extended periods of time. I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a secure system to mount your kayak on!

These J Racks work well with my Yakima round bars. I carry two 60lb kayaks on top of my Jeep Wrangler. The bolts that come with these racks are softer than grade 2 and I recommend they be replaced. I also replaced the cam straps with ratchet straps to ensure the kayaks were secure. I don't use cam straps for anything. It was inexpensive to replace the bolts and straps so I still thought this was a good buy and the shipping was fast.
