The PLACE English 07 study guide is a great tool for studying for the PLACE exam in English. I thought the book was quite helpful in providing information with which to study for the different sections that are covered in the exam. On the other hand, it is easy to see how the guide was created from other certification exams throughout the country, as it had some sections that are not included in the Colorado PLACE, such as a section on essay prompts - there is no essay section in the PLACE! Overall, this guide helped me to prepare for the material that questions covered on the exam, and I felt adequately prepared for the test, even over-prepared at times, for the PLACE thanks in part to this guide.

Save your money on this one folks. I just came back from taking COLORADO PLACE and this guide had very little material that was on the test. It did have the multiple choice format but that was it. First of all, there are only about 5 questions out of 100 that are mechanics and they are much easier than the ones in this book. They gave you passages to read and them asked you what literary devine was used... if didn't just have definition match. There was application on CO PLACE. Also there was a huge section on oral language/speech that wasn't addressed on the multiple choice practice test here but in the prep guide barely. Also there were items on advertising, etc. that also weren't covered. I also had very little on British lit and no matching sonnet types. The thing the review might have given me was confidence but if I already didn't have a good background in English I would have been lost. My recommendation is for people to get another test guide or for the author of this guide to actually take CO PLACE English Content area to see what is on it.

I thought this book was a good general overview of the discipline of English Studies, and much of what it encompasses. It also helps that I have an English degree, so this was used mostly as a review. I studied a few days prior to my endorsement exam, as I was a little rusty on some concepts. I didn't go overboard, but I did read it closely and re-read some sections that needed more attention from me.

I have not yet taken the PLACE, so I cannot tell you whether or not this study guide will help you pass. It does have a good practice quiz in the back with answer key and justification/ discussion of the answers. I have also found that it is a good jumping off point; doing the quiz helped me realize which topics I most need to review.

However, this is by far the most poorly edited book I have ever encountered! There are several sentences containing blatant errors. There are also some formatting issuses. It does leave me wondering how accurate the information is, so that's why I am cross-referencing with some of my college texts. Examining the information in closer detail (i.e. working harder) is helping me review the material more thoroughly.

I'm taking the test Saturday, so wish me luck and check back.
