Bottom line up front: Don't expect a $30 CMOS backup camera to perform like your $600 camcorder. This camera is good for the price. I installed it rather quickly in conjunction with my Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT. It added a Pyramid 10-amp noice filter ($3) as close to camera as possible to ensure it got clean power. It works fine. I can see anything behind me, day or night. Between the IR illuminators on the camera and your backup lights, anything close enough to be of concern at normal reversing speeds are illuminated. After careful aiming, I know right where the "sweet spot" is for backing closse to other car's bumper and other obstacles behind me and still have a save 6-12" buffer. I now get in and out of tight spots with ease. Important notes: - Don't expect this to look like HDTV. It's a $30 CMOS camera. - Use the $3 noise filter. - Route your cables carefully. You should ground the negative lead as close to the camera aspossible and run the positive lead to your choice of power supply (the reverse lights, of you want the camera on only when you're backing, or an accessort power, if you wnat it on when the car's on - as in my case where my head unit has a "rear view" mode for viewing trailers and such while moving forward). If conecting to accessory power, you'll likely have to extend the cable to the front of the vehicle. Keep it a few inches from the from the video cable, and make sure both the video and power cable cross each other and other cables at 90-degrees, and avoid parralle runs. Also, be prepared to extend the video cable. I had to add a 6-foot extension to mine in order to get it to reach the head unit. I don't understand wht someone would spend over $100 for a higher quality camera for the purpose of just backing up, unless they're using it for some sort of high-speed reversing and/or using a really large screen, in which case I would personally use a 0 lux securty-type camera with a differnt mounting location.

I'm surprised what people expect out of a $20 backup camera. The best review I saw was a video even though the user gave it a bad rating. The camera is just what you expect out of a backup camera. I've found most of the bad reviews were using it for other purposes and some were expecting HD quality. I've had experience with a OEM product and I can say that I believe this camera to have a better quality picture that it.Some points that others have made: Low light ability: I found that all cameras have problems with low light. But this camera does what it needs to do. You can see the objects even though they are grainy. My video camera is grainy with low light. Color: I've seen people gripe about the color, but the problem was that it was sunny. Even the best cameras will make everything look white in direct sunlight. Don't compare to professional videos. They usually film early in the morning. Direct sunlight is the worst for filming. Quality of picture: This is a backup camera. It is not meant to be used as a video camera. The purpose of the camera is to see what is behind you.

Crap quality,
This is the worst camera to buy. I bought it and had to return it. No night vision no low light cabably as stated and even in the morning it has very dark picture. People and other object look almost black and white. Hooked up to two diffrent tv systems and same results do not buy this camera.

Great Camera for the price. Was suppose to have LED Night Vision but it doesn't. The ad say's it is night vision capable, but upon arrival, the box say's w/out night vision.

I read the conflicting reviews and was unsure about this camera. But i got it anyway.I've only had it 3 days and so far its fine. The picture is clear and i can see at night too. I'm not sure why some reviewers say it doesn't work at night. And the picture quality seems fine to me. I'm not sure why it would need to be higher quality or HD. I'm concerned about its durability as other reviewers seem to have had problems. Time will tell. Update 12.20.2011 Still works perfect. No problems what so ever.

I chose this back up camera for two reasons:#1 Price #2 No drilling required For less than $30 I can't complain. It offers a nice color picture during the day and decent picture at night. Would recommend to anyone looking for a budget back-up camera.

Well, shipping was quick, and for the price, seems like a great cam. there are no instructions but: red to positive, black to negative, yellow to screen.I hooked it up and it works well, I've read here that people were disappointed by quality and color, etc. for $25. I wouldn't replace it w/ anything else. it is worth every penny, it's not "HD" but clear, and works at night. Don't hesitate to purchase this cam. pretty simple stuff.

I installed this on my 2003 Ford Excursion mainly to aid in hooking up to my 24' car hauler trailer. My Pioneer F900BT stereo had a back-up camera input video jack, and I was able to run the video wire from the head unit to the rear of the truck under the various kick plates and door sills. For power, I connected to the rear back-up lights. The unit worked perfectly through the summer, but filled with condensation in the winter. In the spring, I removed the camera portion (there is a quick-disconnect plug close to the camera), and was able to easily remove the lens to clean up the moisture. Everything went together easily, but now the I/R illuminating lights don't work. The camera still serves its purpose, as I have yet to hook up the trailer in the dark. I may replace it, but I will still go with the same unit given that I can attach it to the quick-disconnect plug, and won't have to rerun the video wire to the front of the truck. Of course, one of the wireless units would be handy if I could hook up a camera to the back of the trailer as well as the truck, and switch between the two. |
