PMP Exam Prep - Seminal guide to exam success, June 12, 2002
This review is from: PMP Exam Prep (Paperback)
I recently passed my PMP exam with this book and related materials as the ONLY exam preparation tools I used. My 20+ years of PM experience would not have been sufficient to score nearly as well because of the fairly narrow interpretations of many terms and concepts that are unique to the PMI context. I read a variety of texts and web-based resources during my eight months of preparation and study, but relied almost exclusively on Rita's Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep tools to provide "ground truth" when I encountered conflicting methods or subtle differences in methodology promoted by individual experts in the field. Of greatest value were tips on the exam itself, suggestions for resolving what appear at first glance to be multiple correct answers, and the emphasis on essential relationships and formulas. The practice exams were worth every penny of the cost of your entire package. By taking them repeatedly for several weeks, I developed a rhythm of responding to easier questions and deferring successively more difficult questions in a way that carried over to the actual exam and made that 4 hours seem comfortably familiar. Identifying the subject matter of more commonly missed questions also helped focus my final study sessions on specific topics or vernacular that could have been problematic. This is a well-designed package of materials that Rita supports quite well and obviously works hard to keep current. I applaud Rita's contribution to the PM profession.

Efficient and effective PMP preparation tool, May 28, 2002
This review is from: PMP Exam Prep (Paperback)
This 244 book fills in the gaps in the PMBOK 2000, and also provides complete coverage of professional responsibility topics and requirements. It's designed as a 120 hour course of instruction, and is focused on the important knowledge factors that you'll encounter on the PMP exam. It provides clear and complete explanations of the PMBOK 2000 core concepts without the fuzziness or verbosity that characterizes the PMBOK. It also contains exercises and practice exams to help you prepare, and gives tips on what to study, including material that will be on the exam that is not covered in the PMBOK. What I like about this guide is the lack of fluff, the focus on learning the exam and the preparatory advice that is given.

PMP Exam Prep reference book, June 12, 2002
This review is from: PMP Exam Prep (Paperback)
Hello Rita, just wanted to drop you a line and inform you that I PASSED the PMP exam on Saturday! Without the assistance of your reference material, PMP Exam Prep, Hot Topics and Situational Questions, I don't think that I would have passed. You see, I'm currently unemployed and I plan on using the PMP designation to give me an edge over other individuals when looking for employment. I could not afford to go to any of your classes, and I did not have anyone else to study with but I did obtain your reference materials. I purchased other reference material, for example, another PMP EXAM Practice Test and Study Guide, but found your reference material to be the best. Reading the other books was time consuming and frankly, quite boring...Your materials were very easy to follow and nicely summarized. I especially liked the variation that you used. Summary formats, memory games, chapter exercises and practice tests. It was a very good way to highlight the main topics in PMBOK. Thank you once again!
