Rust preventer alone makes this a great package,

I'm located a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, and was having a difficult time preventing rust from attacking my table saw, jointer, and planer even though I frequently applied silicone-free paste wax to the cast iron surfaces.I first used the "Rust Free" product to remove the surface rust. It's an acid solution, and caused a bit of irritation even though I had plenty of ventilation. My tools had only a very thin layer of surface rust, and the product removed it effortlessly. However, due to its caustic nature, I think I'll go back to my old rust removal method of a kerosene and a rag if I have to deal with similar conditions. But if I'm ever faced with more severe case of rust, I know what to use. I then sprayed a think layer of "Boesheild T-9" on the cast iron; left it overnight; and wiped it off the next morning. The excess was somewhat difficult to remove --- very sticky and waxy. But it was well worth it! I haven't had a spot of rust on any of my tools in the three months since I first applied the product. I would have had to apply paste wax several times during that time, and it's likely that a few spots of rust would still show up. I've only used the "Blade & Bit" product once. It easily removed the pitch buildup from my saw blade . Like "Rust Free", it's somewhat caustic and an irritant. Use it with good ventilation. I think I'll stick with "Simple Green".

Boeshield T-9 is best by itself,

I've been using T-9 for some years. Of the three items, the T-9 is really worth the cleaner and rust buster put together. It's too bad they're selling the kit and not T-9 by itself. The rust cleaner is average. Flitz cleans better and is more versatile. The blade cleaner did clean but certainly not nine dollars better than a few ounces of Oil Eater, which cleaned gummy blades and bits lots faster. T-9 RULEZ when it comes to keeping rusty crusty away from anything metal. It was even a good defense against a male dog's dislike of a metal bench and handtruck kept outside. It does stay sticky a long while so don't spritz and expect it to be instantly usable. Wet T-9 can stain cardboard boxes and fabric. The best anti-rust protection comes after letting it dry in a thick film. I don't like T-9 on machine table tops except for storage, where it is the best thing EVER. It's sticky though. You have to clean hard before you can use the tool. The goo can get on wood and it takes strong solvent to get it out. If you live near salty water exposure, there's nothing better.

Part of a Good Maintenance Program,

My first exposure with this product produced good results to remove the rust and soil stains from my table saw. The Rust Free contains a mild acidic base. Several applications were necessary to remove all the rust and soil stains. Good ventilation should be provided to avoid the fumes. I had a problem with the spray bottle freezing up on me from so much pumping. I had to "rest" it for a few seconds and then continue pumping every now and then. The use of a spray bottle in this case is not such a good idea since it is hard to be accurate spraying an acidic solution--getting it on the paint is inevitable. I switched to a small sponge instead, the sixe of a half dollar, which worked very well and much faster. I could see the rust and soil stains being lifted off with each application. I sprayed two light coats of the T-9 after the cleaning and the results were immediately apparent--the table saw looked brand new. I have also been using the T-9 on the shafts of my router bits to keep the rust away. The Blade and Bit cleaner works as well as the household cleaners I have been using to clean the pitch from my blades. The real value in this product is the T-9 protection. With it you can keep rust away far better and far longer than just using paste wax. Just give it a good cleaning first with the Rust Free and you've got a very good maintenace program with this set.

Some Good, Some Bad,

I have a mixed option about this kit.I purchased it to remove a couple of rust spots from my table saw top. The rust remover works great. I did have to use it twice. It had the bad effect of changing the color of the table saw top to a darker grey (OK who cares). I also sprayed some on the ruler for setting my fence, and it crinkled it up, and now the ruler is hard to use (OK, I should have thought of that and not over sprayed). Over all this part did the job and I should give it 5 stars. I use the blade and bit cleaner to clean resin from my router bits and table saw blades. That works well. However for table saw blades it is not much better than washing the blade warm water with Dawn dish soap. (and then drying the blade and spraying it with WD 40). I am uncomfortable washing my router bits with bearings. So I like the product for them. I would give it 4 stars. The Boeshield is OK. It could be used to coat a metal product for long term storage. If all you want to do is protect the cast iron top of a wood working tool, you would be much better off just using a furniture paste wax. For my application, I give Boeshield 1 star.

T-9 good, rust remover scary,

The Boeshield T-9 is a great product. Yes, it's sticky, but it even says on the instructions to rub it off quickly for a smooth surface. It contains a thin paste wax, so if you buff it a little it's even smoother. I haven't had a problem with it.The rust remover is a whole different thing. Yes, it removes rust some, not great, but some. However, it contains phosporic acid which will stain iron if used in small amounts. If you have a leak in your bottle (like me) and you set the bottle on your table saw, then it will literally eat pits into the cast iron table and react to form some funky crusty black iron oxide stuff that is really hard to clean off. My recommendation, buy the T-9 and hide the rust remover from yourself before you really damage something.

The T-9 rust preventer is great. I have just sprayed it on and wiped it off for a "light coat". I haven't seen any more rust, so my guess is I don't need a "heavy coat" which drys by itself. Very little odor. The rust remover stinks like sulfer, but does a great job taking the rust off. I haven't yet used to blade and bit product, but if it is as good as the other two items, this bundle is a winner.

I use T-9 for most of my rust-prevention in the shop. Simple to use, coats and protects. Works like a charm. It ends up a little sticky if you put it on heavy, and you'll need to re-apply it quicker if you put it on thin. I think paste (turtle) wax holds up better in high-traffic areas. No comment on the other two (Rust Free and Blade & bit cleaner). I haven't used them enough to form an opinion.

I've used other products that either were way over priced for little bitty bottles, or had chemicals that the epa should check out! They were not nearly as good as this line either. If you maintain the surface with the spray after you clean it the first time, you won't have any rust even when Bubba comes to visit and rests both his sweaty hands on your table saw top while he talks...The lube spray goes on easily and leaves a really friction free surface without residue.

Bicyclists swear by this product so it must be fairly good. I used it for the first time on a new tablesaw top to prevent rusting and oxidation. The first application seemed a little sticky, but after polishing it out, it seems OK. Only time will tell if this product does what it is supposed to do...prevent rust. The alternative to this product is a good wax, talc powder or oil, (which would stain wood). So hopefully this will do the trick. I will edit this review in 3-4 months and let you know how Boeshield has performed over the long haul.

This product is crap! You'd be better off using kerosene and a tooth brush.I was told that this product worked great on rust, well believe me when I tell you that it did more harm than it did help, it left my machinery with leopard spots. I'm very unhappy with the results, you would think that for $30 you'd get a better product. |
