Pretty good,

This is my first detector after a couple of speeding tickets. Been pretty comfortable with this for the past 1.5 yrs now - 2 close shaves where the detector alerted me about radar guns - Ka band.
Pros: Detects any gun presence at least one fourth mile before, just enough time to ease off the gas. If you are just above the (SpeedLimit + CopToleranceInYourState) this will surely help!! But do NOT for one moment think that if you are 20-25 mph above the posted speed limit on a highway, you can escape a speed-gun using this model. After battery goes down, battery comes on after some time even if offline and works for a half hour or hour more! - Solar power or heat based recharge, perhaps. Cons: I am not sure if the Lidar detector even works, I have experienced the L band going on a couple of times per year.. But false positives, maybe, as I had not seen any cop anywhere nearby. One gripe is that the holder is flimsy, since its metal against plastic and there is car vibration, it becomes loose within a few months of use. But easy to add some homespun rubber/plastic padding or some sort of exterior clamp to hold the detector to the metal bracket. Update: Battery lid broke off after 2 years of use (so not using rechargeable power batteries or offline mode tho' it should not be difficult to whip up a lid/contact) But am still using this with just car battery power source (3 yrs now) with no speeding tickets (touch wood)

I wanted a radar detector that was cordless because the car is tied up with XM radio, dvd players etc. I reviewed and reviewed on the web and concluded that for my budget PNI was the way to go. So..... I am very happy with Steel Eye. It picks up cops with plenty of warning has an excellent filter that does not need to be switched from city/highway. It will also lower the audio warning automatically after a signal rises past 3. It is not the best looking RD in the world (actually looks kind of cheap)and the windshield mount seems to block the lazer dome. But hey it is sooooooo easy to use, just click it in and push a button. It is easy to hide as well.

Works really well even though the case and power input look cheap. The plastic case is not the quality of a Bell or Whistler, but in several trips to Key West it picked up everything, including intruder monitoring sytems from stores. Goes off the scale when passing the radar installation at the Naval Air station in Key West.
