Fast, cheap and portable!,

This review is from: PNY 16GB Attache USB 2.0 Flash Drive P-FD16GU20-FS (Personal Computers)
I picked up a PNY pen drive (128M) a few weeks ago to carry around some important documents that I needed to work on at home and at work. I was worried about a suspect hard drive on one of those machines, and this seemed like a good solution.I couldn't be happier with this product. It's blazing fast, files transfer very reliably, and it's worked in every computer I've plugged it into (a total of 5), despite having at least three different OS's on those computers. It's light enough that I don't even notice it in my pocket, and it comes with a lanyard you can use to carry it if you like. If you haven't tried one of these, I think you're missing out. I love mine, and recommend it highly. It's advertised to work with any Microsoft OS, Win98 and up, and I've used it on 98, 2000 and XP. It's not supposed to work with NT, in case you're running that. It's rated for USB2, but it works on my PC with USB1.1, as well. They're cheap; get one today. You won't regret it.

Great, until it died,

This product worked great for 9 months until it just died on me a few days ago. That really sucks, because you can't recover the info you had on it. The computer stopped recognizing it. I tried on two additional computers, and it doesn't work on them either; so it's not a computer problem. In searching the web, I found a couple of other people who had the same problem. PNY doesn't have any way to contact the company on their web site (the only phone # I found was for a marketing rep, I called her and she claims she'll forward my number for someone to call back). The PNY web site claims this product has a 1 year warrantee. However, Best Buy told me that their computer only shows 90 days, so they told me to contact PNY.This type of product is worthless if it can stop working at any time without a way to recover the data on it. Also, PNY does not have any info on their web site about how to contact them if things go wrong. They simply tell you to take it back to where you bought it.

PNY Flash drives suck,
This review is from: PNY 16GB Attache USB 2.0 Flash Drive P-FD16GU20-FS (Personal Computers)
This was bought for me by an employer. I was able to get one machine to recognize it, my Micron office machine running XP Pro. However, this drive wasn't recognized on any other the computers I have used it on: a dedicated offline Dell, my homebuilt XP Pro machine, my second home PC running XP Home, the networked Microns at the labs at work, my wife's IBM laptop, my IBM Thinkpad. And without the company receipt, Best Buy wouldn't take it back, and the receipt is gone; and it only cost $25 so it's not worth pursuing. It's still annoying, though.I don't know how PNY stays in business selling garbage like this. I've owned three other flash drives, including my current 1G Lexar JumpDrive, and never had a problem.

The attache 128 MB USB 2.0 drive offered by PNY is a useful tool for those who work on more than one computer. If you have Windows XP, setup is a snap - just plug it in and you will be able to treat it like it is any other disk drive. The drive is small yet sturdy and can take some bumps. The device also has a lock feature (a la the old 1.44 MB diskettes) so that it would become write-protected. Remember one thing though - the Attache is not really designed to be rewritten repeatedly. If the user repeatedly erases and rewrites the Attache drive, eventually parts or all of the drive will become unreadable. Therefore, one should only erase and rewrite when absolutely necessary. Also, one should always backup his or her files in a location other than the Attache.

Worked fine for a couple of weeks and then just died. The problem was that it was not recognized by XP or Linux anymore.

I used the PMY 128 meg USB memory stick for maybe 6 months and it died a quick and unexpected death, taking valuable files with it. I got the message "this drive is not formatted." And then I got the message "this drive is protected." or some such thing. I am out of of info and memory chip.

I'm glad I didn't spend my cash on the PNY 128 MB Attache USB 2.0 Portable Flash Memory Drive that sits before me but am sorry my employer invested in a handful of these sorry things.Mine worked exactly one time before lapsing into suspended animation or whatever catatonic state it now inhabits. I know many modern electronic devices are engineered to fail, but one use? There are many better built portable memory devices out there: better built in that they hold more information, are Mac compatible, and they do immediately suffer a total system failure. On the bright side, at least I was never put in a situation where I would actually have to rely on this device.

Like many others here, I purchased a PNY flash drive which worked fine for several months, only to suddenly magicaly "write protect" itself. I have many files on the flash drive, I cannot copy them out or write new ones on. There is no physical switch to turn the "write protect" on or off. I attempted to download the formatting utility from PNY, and apparently it doesn't run on Vista. I searched their website to find a way to contact them to complain about it, but doing so required me to fill out a registration form requiring my home address and phone number. And even if I did register, I would require the original receipt to get them to do anything, unfortunately for me I threw it away since I purhcased it back in May ~ June.I will never purchase a POS PNY flash drive again. Mine is bricked, and it's too light to even be a paperweight. Stay. Away.

Don't buy it!!! Don't buy it!!! The first time I used it I copied some files to the 4GB Attache driver but later on when I decided to delete some of them I've got this deleting error message that the disk was write-protected. I called PNY technical support but they were unable to solve the issue. The thing is defective. They told me to return the driver for a replacement. But how can I return the driver loaded with sensitive info, that cannot be deleted, and get the replacement??? I am stuck with it! The PNY people were sorry that they couldn't help me...I am even sorrier that I have purchased this junk!!!

At first I was pleased with my new 128M PNY Attache pen drive. Yet, like so many products today, the "shelf life" is incredibly short. Unfortunately, for a pen drive that means that you lose out on all the things that you have saved one it. The front end of this PNY Attache pen drive, a USB connector, detached from the internal board after almost 2 months of almost daily use.I'm going to forgoe buying cheap stuff from Taiwan and China. Not worth the money in the long run. |
