During an intensive gaming session...I can hear the fan pick up just a little bit...but the noise level remains very low.

Just a quick review of this card. I upgraded from a 2 1/2 old PNY 9600GT which is also a great card BTW. What I first noticed about the GTX 460 is that it was shorter than my 9600GT by 1/2" (only 8 1/2") which helped when fitting it in my case. It is also a dual slot card (width) which was not a problem fitting it in. It installed very easy and I was up and running in minutes. The first thing I noticed on starting my PC was, how quite this card is over my 9600GT, even when under load you do not hear it. I also checked the temps and the GTX 460 idle temps are about 10C lower than the 9600GT was. Under load it did not go over 62C and would quickly drop back to normal temps after going to idle again. My 9600GT would drop, but would take a while to get back to idle temps.

Game play; I have only tried it with "Lord of the Rings Online" but the first thing I noticed was LOTROL updated my graphic settings to Ultra and Very high. With my 9600GT LOTROL always wanted to keep it running at Medium to high with resolution turned down. Also the color and physix were very much improved, I found myself noticing things I had never seen before. I ran some benchmarks as well (synthetic) and my performance improved by a good 40-50% over my 9600GT. I also read that you need a high powered CPU/Power supply etc, well here are my spec's (not high powered at all) and it runs very well with this;

Intel Core 2 Q6600 @ 2.4ghz G0 stepping (Yes I plan to OC it!)
ASUS P5Q Motherboard
4GB ram Corsair X
PNY XLR8 GTX 460 1024mb
Win XP Pro-SP3 (Soon to be Win 7 Pro 64bit)
PC power & cooling 610watt PS

I am sure I will see even more performance once I OC' my Quad core.

so i upgraded from gts 250 to gtx 460 and wow huge difference. i first noticed people saying its a loud graphics card. well to me i think its extremely quiet maybe since i have a cooling gamer case but still its not loud enough where it annoys me. performance is one of the best thing ever for the price. i first of started playing bad company 2 and the fps runs around 65 to 70 fps with max graphics, hbao on and 2x anti aliasing. with gts 250 i ran 35 to 45 fps with max and no anti aliasing, and hbao off. so with this card i get around 30 fps higher with graphics shooting up a little higher. but i recommend to give this card atleast 500 psu. there are some brand out there that can be use with 450 psu. but to be on the safe side get atleast 500 psu. i defiantly recommend getting this card if you have limited budget. sorry for my poor english.

I've had an ATI 4850 for about 2 years and the card has been flawless, recently though i started getting BOD issues, which i had NEVER had before. I cleaned the dust off it had, tried a few different things etc. The only thing that worked was switching ports on the back. That being said it cleared up but i was still leary because the temperature was still running a bit hi for the card. I ventured off to Best Buy(unfortunately) to pick up the ATI Radeon 5770, but once i got it home i realized there was a better deal for a bit more money and much more performance out there. The Nvidia Geforce GTX 460. This card is pretty amazing, mine was actually 269$ at BB not sure why this one is cheaper, may have some things on it this one doesnt. The ease of installation was not that easy really, the card is about an inch smaller than my pervious 4850, but it didn't line up with the screw on the back of my rig. So i had to improvise, took a while but i rigged it up pretty well. The fan is silent even during heavy game play, the card does run hot as most people have stated, but its meant for that, and it can handle it. The highest its went on any game including something as high end as Metro 2033 on full 1080p was about 66 degrees C. My desktop rig is very large and wide so this really isn't an issue. My cores still only get a temperature of about 34 C after heavy gaming, and the rest of the system around 42 or so. Thats nothing really. Also the card cools down just as fast as it heats up, so obviously its doing something right, within about 1 minute it goes back down to about 32 degrees C, which is were is stays most of the time. Now onto performance, here are some games i have ran on full specs just to try it out, keep in mind i just got this card yesterday. So here's hoping.Read more ›

I installed it in about 10 minutes. The two addition power plugs don't label what they're for and the product manual doesn't help. Both the PCIe and SLI plugs fit into it, and unless you know the information on the power output of those plugs, you might have some issues. There are no schematics with it and no board diagram that identify the parts. It's completely enclosed, so blowing dust out will be a chore. It seems to perform excellently, though. No real complaints at all. At $200, it will handle anything currently out there.

Just recently got rid of my 8800 GT for this card, and let me say this card is amazing. Definitely great for this price, especially if you get it before the rebates up and only have to pay 120. I would suggest this card to anyone who wants to play practically any game that's out right now on high/very high settings but doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg.
