5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable speed for under $100
This card is just awesome for the price. It's super fast. It more than doubled my 3DMark score despite my system bottleneck due to an older Pentium D CPU. It's ridiculously cheap. It runs cool. It doesn't require a lot of power. (I'm running it on a Dell with the stock 305 watt PSU) What else can you ask for? If you're looking for a graphics upgrade, and don't want to...

I bought this product back in December of 2008 and since then I have had to return it to PNY for RMA replacement three times. I am currently running on the fourth card. I do not know if it's just bad luck or there's something wrong with this series of card, but I somewhat regret buying this particular model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great card for preformance lovers., April 1, 2009
This review is from: PNY VCG96512GXEB VERTO GeForce 9600GT 512MB DDR3 DVI + DVI + HDTV/S-Video Outputs PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card- Retail (Personal Computers)
This is a great video card, especially for the price.

You would find this card priced brand new at around 130-150 are local stores or anywhere else besides amazon.

This card is pretty big, and is quite loud though. But to me performance is all that matters so its not really a inconvenience. Make sure you have adequate space in your case so your card fits. Its about 5 inches long I think. It also requires its own power source from the PSU. It comes with a Y Adapter power connector for that purpose. Uses a 6pin connector into the card and than it converts the 6 pin into a 4 pin molex. So you will also need 2 available 4 pin molex connectors with your PSU. You may need a fairly good power supply of at least 400w for enough power and to keep your system nice and cool, because this card generates lots of heat and uses a good amount of power.

It also comes with the drivers on the installation disc, of course and lots of bonus material. Mainly just high definition Geforce wallpapers and some videos.

For those who need a affordable high end card for gaming, or intense video editing this is the card to get. It runs at almost twice the performance of your Geforce 8600 series cards, so it would be cheaper to buy this and less power consumption than SLIing 2 8000 series cards.

Another thing I like to add, I got the free 2 day shipping on this and got the card the very next day. Which was a super plus to get it a day ahead of schedule.

So last though, if you want performance over anything else this card will not let you down.

I love this card. Runs using my stock 350w Dell Internal Power Supply. Plug it in and go.

I edit lots of HD video with this card. It has sped the process dramatically. Using Windows Movie Maker I can see the edits immediately. Gone is the jerky play back in edit mode. Sure half that is due to my outstanding existing system. I would consider this card a must if your editing HD.

Play lots of Crysis with this. I am running with very high graphics settings and getting about 57-64 fps full screen 22" monitor. This is with a Q6600 2.4ghz quadcore 4gb ram. Gets a little Jerky but after rebooting things clean up nicely.

2.0 out of 5 stars Roll of the dice, June 18, 2009

I bought this product back in December of 2008 and since then I have had to return it to PNY for RMA replacement three times. I am currently running on the fourth card. I do not know if it's just bad luck or there's something wrong with this series of card, but I somewhat regret buying this particular model.

The original card I received worked fine for a few months, then it started crashing and locking up my computer when I played certain games. I sent it back to PNY and they sent me a replacement. That card worked fine for a couple weeks until the cooling fan failed and the card melted itself. The third card I received had graphical glitches and artifacts the instant I installed it...wouldn't even boot to Windows without locking up. I am currently running on the fourth card. So far it's working well, with only a couple random lockups of my computer (which may be driver-related, I'm currently testing).

To make sure it wasn't a problem with my computer, I bought a second video card from a different manufacturer (EVGA) and had no issues whatsoever. I also had no problems with the previous card, made by MSI. I have also tested the broken 9600s (when possible) on other computers and had errors there as well. Only with the PNY 9600GT have I had this happen.

I heard that PNY makes quality products, which is why I bought from them. While my confidence in them has been shaken due to this product, I must admit that their RMA procedures are quick and easy. I am not sure I will buy from them again, and if this card fails I will RMA it one last time and just sell the replacement on Ebay after I buy another card from another manufacturer.

On the bright side, when the cards worked, the performance was excellent. However, that doesn't make up for the fact that in the last three months I've spent more time waiting for the replacement card to arrive than I've spent actually using it. :-/

Might be a fast and cheap card, but even at $67 it was not worth it. I believe this is why they are so cheap; the noise level of the fan is ridiculously high most will return the card. The source of the noise is the fan which is always at 100% and can NOT be adjusted. I quickly returned it to Amazon.

If noise level has absolutely no importance to you, then buy it. Otherwise, look for a different card.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of power for a little money, March 20, 2009

The card that came with my new system (a Radeon 3650) would constantly freeze up when playing CoD 5, a frustrating experience. I knew I needed a video card with a lot more power, so I chose the PNY VERTO GeForce 9600GT. What a difference! Once installed, it's like the dark clouds lifted and I was in for a great gaming experience. The card came with a manual to walk you through installation and driver update. This was my first experience doing a video card upgrade on my own. It was fairly easy. You do need to locate a free power cable inside your machine to connect and power up this card - most machines have at least one free power cable inside the case waiting to be used. I just followed the instructions and I was up and running in 20 minutes tops. The card itself is incredible, especially compared to what I originally had. It does have a fan and you can hear it, but I wouldn't say it was loud, unless you need to use your computer in total silence. It was about as loud as a small room fan, so I didn't really notice it. Nothing bad I can say about this card, except why did I wait so long to buy it?

I'm one of those guys who prefers a quiet computer. So, my main beef with this card isn't the performance - which was quite good - but with the fan noise.

I got this card expecting it to have a temperature sensor which would vary the fan speed according to how much demand you're putting on the GPU.

Unfortunately, the version of PNY's 9600 GT card I got doesn't look like the picture here and has a fixed fan speed - which pretty much means that it's going full speed the whole time. And let's face it, this particular fan isn't exactly quiet - it was loud enough to drown out my CD drive spinning a disc, my CPU, case and power supply fans all put together. I kept it for a day but finally couldn't put up with the high-pitched fan noise so I returned it.

Considering my experience, next time I'm going with a passively cooled one (i.e. no fan) like the Gigabyte 9600 GT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful, April 14, 2009

First off, somebody else wrote about a "jet engine" noise, and I have no idea what that's about. My machine is as quiet as it was before. This card is absolutely beautiful. It does everything it's advertised to do and more. It's quiet, fast, and has decent VRAM. Every problem I had with my old card is solved now. I am impressed beyond words. My Valve games (like Half-Life 2) look great and I get absolutely no lag. I did a stress test in Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, which uses Valve's "High Dynamic Range Rendering" technology, which is a whole new level of lighting control and graphics attached to their Source engine, and maxed out the graphics. I achieved 60 frames per second. I was in awe. Also while playing some of my other first-person shooters, like Call of Duty: World at War, I was able see things I never noticed before using my old setup, like heat-ripples from gunfire! Even older games like the first Half-Life look great. Even X-Plane likes this card, and X-Plane is hard to please sometimes. One of my favorite parts of this thing is the cable that plugs into a special S-Vid on the back and lets you output video in standard s-video, RCA, or PbPrY, which is great because I do a lot of video editing.

nVidia does it again!

Bought two of these for my son's computer that supports SLI. His jerky, lagging WoW game play (I found it painful to watch), changed into a seamless smooth and incredibly beautiful animation. Like watching an HD movie. Hard to take your eyes away from the action.

Good support, easy install. If you've got two PCI-E slots and the SLI bridge go for it.
