5.0 out of 5 stars Great Video card for the money
I had a GeForce 6600 and bought Call of Duty 4 The game ran but would freeze after 30+ minutes of play time. The Geforce 6600 was being maxed out buy the call of duty 4 game. I upgraded to The GeForce 8500Gt and the game now runs great no more freezing and the graphics are the best ever. Its not the best card out there but its the best bang for the buck I have no regreats...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that great of a card for much other than basic use, or watching HD content...
Well, I purchased this card as an upgrade from my EAX300 video card, which had 128MB of DDR Memory, and a 64-bit memory interface. I was expecting quite an improvement over that card, however was less than impressed. I have a program on my computer called Real Desktop, and what it does is make your desktop 3-d. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Card for Price, September 12, 2007
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
After much research I chose the card because the price was good and it is fully compatible with VISTA. I play Titan Quest and my onboard Nvidia would only play on the lowest game settings. With this card I can play at the highest settings and with no load on my CPU. This card was a breeze to install as VISTA has drivers built in. You will however want to load the latest drivers from Nvidia.

Hey, for around $100 you can't go wrong with this card. It's not a top of the line card, but it does alot of things really really well. It improved the graphics on alot of my games and i didn't even change any of the settings. You can't go wrong with this Directx 10 compatible card!

I just bought a 24" monitor recently, and this card with its DVI connection is truly the item that tops it off. DVD's like I have never seen before. It also has the power for HD or BluRay. It only requires a 300w power source, which my HP has. I just love this setup. I had a nVidia 6150e in my HP. This is a five minute changeout. Just add the card, and hook up the cable. Run the drivers, and you are in.

This performed alright on my EAX300, but I was hoping with my upgrade it would be better. I was wrong. It was choppier than ever, to the point I couldn't even use it. Then, tried playing a game, (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) which as an older game, has pretty low requirements. I know this isn't a gaming card, but I did expect somewhat of an increase in performance. Anyway, this is how it went down. On low settings, this card was comparable to my EAX300, and to be honest, my EAX300 did better, getting framerates around 55-65fps average, and going as high as 80-85fps in low detail areas. This card however got an average of around 35-45fps, and only went to about 55-60fps in low detail areas. Definitely not an improvement. However, with all settings turned up, and 3x anti-aliasing, my EAX300 would stay around 1-10fps, while this card would get about 30-40fps. So in high settings it faired better than the EAX300, but with low settings it did worse. I will admit, this card played HD content with ease, compared to my EAX300. Sometimes my EAX300 would freeze up on HD content if you tried to skip it ahead, and then wouldn't play, and you'd have to restart. This normally meant I couldn't fast-forward through it, or I'd have to restart the entire film. However, with this card, I was able to skip through, and my HD experience was much better than before. So if you don't play alot of games, and don't have many 3-d apps you use, this could be a good card for you. If you plan on playing games, or have a favorite 3-d app, you might not like it so much. One thing that is my fault is that I knew I shouldn't get a card with DDR2, but I decided to anyway, and it got very hot, just as I knew it would, and performed half as good, if that, as DDR3 memory. Guess it's up to what you'll use the card for, but it wasn't for me.

If you've a pre-built HP Pavilion or a Dell this is a great card for it's price.

You don't need to replace the power supply to install it and it fits the PCIx16 in the Pavilion.

Vista drivers work with no problem and the cd drivers really improve performance of the card.

The graphics improvement is noticable, very noticable over the integrated crap graphic chipset. Mass Effect for the PC is a completely new game with this card.

For $60 with no new power supply you just can't beat this card.

I was looking for a quality video card to drive my new 22" widescreen monitor and render graphics for pc video games. This card performs well and does not require extra power supply - it simply plugs into the PCIe slot and configures easily with the supplied software.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect item, August 17, 2008
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
I bought this because the orange box games would crash using my integrated intel card, which was the weak point in my otherwise well equipped system. The card costs NOTHING considering what you get. It installed easily and I can now run anything I care to at the highest settings with unvarying smoothness. Almost any computer should have enough wattage to support it so you won't have to mess around with, god forbid, extra power cables, and the built in fan is more than up to the job.

The card comes with a color adjustment test in the settings panel. I tried it, and it gave me bad advice on the brightness, but once I cranked that back up I was astonished at how much better everything looked. Even icons have a warmth and 'pop' I couldn't have imagined before. No computer component has a lot of 'long term value' if that means running bleeding edge graphics in two to three years, whatever you may hear. This gets the job done now and a five hundred dollar card won't stay current all that much longer than it. I can't recommend this strongly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Could Have Expected!, October 15, 2008
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
I purchased this video card as a "low end" alternative since I love high end games but can't buy a $300 video card to run them.

Well, I don't need to. I installed this video card into my PC.
In case you're curious, here are the specs:

AMD 64 X2 4400+ 2.3Ghz Dual Core
2 GB RAM
320 GB HD
22" Acer Flat Panel Monitor

Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1

And I added the nVidia GeForce 8500 PCIe card.

So far, I have been wildly impressed.
Now, I've been burnt before, cards that say they're powerful and end up doing poorly. However, this card said it was adequate and ended up working powerfully! I am currently running GTA IV at max settings at 1680x1050x32, and I'm pulling 78 frames per second! I'm running Flight Simulator X at max settings and am getting 63 frames per second! X Plane 9? Maximum settings on everything, plus 4x anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, 1680x1050x32 resolution, full screen, severe thunderstorm with incredibly real looking rain, and I'm running it flawlessly!

Every single game has been maxed out and I'm still getting high frame rates. So listen: If you really need to get the most bang for the buck, this card is it. I didn't imagine that $50 low end investment would return such incredibly high results.

Highly recommended!
J.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Video Card, June 27, 2008
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
I bougth this video card for my PC to improve my graphics, but this is really more than I expected. It runs games like NFSU2, AOEIII, and other very fast. It has improved my system performance a lot. I'm really pleased with this video card, and the price is very good. I recomend it to anyone who wants to have a good video card for low price. Surely you won't be disappointed.
