5.0 out of 5 stars Dazzling speed!
I really like this card...way faster that the the 3. Highly recommend for all game players. Disregard 1 star review, this card is probably just too fast for them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled!
I'm really disappointed at NVidia's deliberate attempt to confuse consumers with the release of their so-called Geforce 4 MX cards that really don't perform as expected. Most consumers are going to be duped into thinking this is a fast card just because it says Geforce 4. Geforce 4 has to be faster than Geforce 3, right? Wrong!

Wrong!

The list below ranks the cards in terms of speed and power for gamers as determined by the 3DMark website at the time I write this review. Notice this card ranks at the bottom of the list? A Geforce2 Ultra is faster!

1. NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600
2. NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4400
3. ATI Radeon 8500
4. NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 500
5. NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200
6. NVIDIA GeForce3
7. NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
8. ATI Radeon 7500
9. NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra
10. NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

For the occasional gamer who doesn't need the top-end 3D graphics or the occasional business user, this card will be fine. However, if that's your situation there are many cards that will do the same job for cheaper. If you do, however, play the latest games on the market, then skip this card for something higher on the list.

Hope the review helped.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good card, but some serious flaws., April 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce4 64MB MX420 AGP (Personal Computers)
This card is good for an occasional gamer, buissines person, or an aoler. It is definetly NOT good for a serious gamer. Ill list its flaws.

It uses old, slow, SDRAM, Nvidia has a version of the MX420 that uses DDR memory, but this one uses SD. It wont be a long time bfore this card is obsolete. It doesnt use technology in the Radeon 8500, Geforce 3's, or the Geforce 4 TI. This technology is called vertex and pixel shaders. Translation: New games are using these, and before long this video card wont beable to support them. Right now, game developers are using an engine that supports the shaders, and one that doesnt, so the game is runable on every computer made in the past, say, 3 years. But sometime, the time will come when they stop making the engine that doesnt use the shaders. Many gamers may get burned by not understanding this flaw. When someone sees "BRAND NEW --- GEFROCE 4 mx!!!" most will think that its superior to the geforce 3's. Not so. Like i said, thay dont use the shaders that radeon 8500, Geforce 4 TI, and geforce3's use. sure, the core clock (graphics proccesor) is faster than a geforce3's, but overall, any geforce 3 will have better frame rates than a geforce 4 MX. (note i said MX not TI. a TI geforce 4 will kick the [stuffing] out of any geforce 3). This card uses technology that was used on a geforce 2 (all the Major computer companies mostly use these geforce 2s that are old obsolete cards(in my opinion)). In other words, its a souped-up geforce 2.

On the other hand, its great for any kind of 2d windows preformance, and has dual monitor support. For a gamer, I reccomend an Radeon 8500, geforce 3, or a geforce4 TI card. The geforce 4 TI 4200 will be coming out very soon, that is ten fold better than this card, that, if you look very hard, you can get for a little more than this card. The gefroce 4 TI 4200 has about the same preformance as the 4400 ans 4600, but costs about 1-2hundred less.

This card will run your games good for now, just not for a long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok if you have DSL to get new drivers., December 21, 2002
By
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce4 64MB MX420 AGP (Personal Computers)
I just installed a new PNY Verto GeForce4 64MB MX420 AGP video card and have also also installed two of PNY's older GeForce2 64MB MX400 AGP video cards. All have worked well.
First these are ...video cards designed a year ago without DDR memory, not leading edge cards that cost up to three times as much. A more modern 64Meg DDR memory card costing twice as much might be the best deal for a leading edge gamer.
The major shortcomming is that I had to down load 20 megs of new drivers from nVidia to get the latest board to work correctly. Also I had to load a 8meg driver patch to get my DVD play program to work with the new card. Without DSL, you are going to have to download on your dialup modem for hours to get the software.

2.0 out of 5 stars Geforce 4 MX 420 SDR not worth it!, July 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: PNY Verto GeForce4 64MB MX420 AGP (Personal Computers)
Well I just bought this card, and I am not too impressed since the technology is not so great on this card missing directx8 and DDR memory. I would recomand to buy ATI Rodeon 7500 or 8500. My other system runnng Rodeon 7500 is much quicker for games and even better quality, looks like these cards cost the same price. Without a doubt ATI 7500 is better for great perfomance and price!
