More About the Author

I am a retired Army Chaplain and the author of 9 books. Like most authors, I write what I know. That's why 5 of my books are based on my own experiences.

I served two tours of duty in Vietnam--one with the Marines and the second tour with the Army. My most popular books are "Changed By War" and "From the Point to the Cross."

However, my newest book, which is a novel, is gaining ground. It's called "Holding Christmas." It is the story of two soldiers who return from Vietnam at the end of the war and are welcomed home the right way.

I have been told many times that my books inspire people, and at times even change some lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book you won't forget, December 21, 2011

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: FROM THE POINT TO THE CROSS: ONE VIETNAM VET'S JOURNEY TOWARD FAITH (Paperback)
I read this book several years ago and have never forgotten it, even though I read a lot of books and most of them fade into hazy memory rather quickly. It was searingly honest and really helped me better understand the men who served in the Vietnam War, which was the constant background noise on my family's living room TV every night of my childhood. Den Slattery provides the details that only someone who was there can do. His description of his change from rejecting Christianity and embracing the occult to believing in and following the God of the Bible is oddly humorous and I still laugh when I remember it. This is a good read, quick and powerful.
