Product Description

The POOF-Slinky 0X4266 Ideal The Storybook Card Game tests your memory and creativity by looking at picture cards to create fun and silly stories that are different every time. The storybooks are all mixed up and all the characters and objects need a story! Play starts with the first player starting a story by saying, "Once upon a time..." as he turns over the top card of the deck. The player includes the object on the card in this sentence, making up whatever he or she wants as long as the item on the card is included in the sentence. Example: If the first card turned over is the "alien" the player may say "Once upon a time, there was an alien who came to Earth". The player then places the card back on the top of the deck, face down and passes the deck to the next player. That player then turns over next card and adds this object to the story. Example: If the second player's card is the "Lollipop", the player may say, "Once upon a time, there was an alien who came to Earth because he was looking for a lollipop". As play continues, if a player forgets the object on a card or says the wrong item he or she is out of the game. The winner is the last player remaining in the game. Ideal's The Storybook Game is designed for 2+ players, comes in a collectible mini tin lunch box storage container and includes (54) cards and instructions for (2) levels of game play. Ideal brand provides a wide variety of games, activity kits, magic sets and classic toys that parents and grandparents remember from their own childhood years. The game is simple. A deck of cards with a pictures on eah one. Turn one over and begin a story based on the image, then take turns turning over cards and adding a line to the story based on the picture. It's an excellent language challenge for everyone, Kid's that like to talk will like to play and kid's that have a hard time expressing will benefit from the structure and visual clues. I play with a 5 year old who loves it. I also bring it to school and play with my 6-9th graders.

I bought this for my four year old and she loves it. The best part is that it is one of the few games that we play that adults can also enjoy. I think that older kids would enjoy it as well. We don't usually play by the rules though (I thought it might be a bit hard for my daughter to remember so many cards). We simply put out three or four cards and take turns telling a story about them. Also, this way there is no winner or loser (for those kids that don't want to play games they might lose). The longer we have been playing this game the more elaborate my daughter's stories have become. It is a wonderful game to spark her imagination and help with sequencing skills.

Originally we got this game as a gift for my 4 year old. You can use them as flash cards, or use them to create easy stories with your child (not as a game, but to help show them progression thru a story). Now my son is 6 and we bought it for his 1st grade teacher. Think it would be great for a Kindergarten teacher also.

This is a great game; however, not worth the $9.99. It is a deck of cards with pictures on it. I was able to purchase this at my local hardware store (Menards) during the Christmas season for half the price. I don't like the tin either. The steel pin came out of the hinge and if the tin doesn't keep its shape your kids will get frustrated attempting to close it. A rubberband around the cards works just fine ... no tin needed which may save on mfg costs. My 3 year old and 4 year old love this game. The first player draws the top card and creates a storyline starting with 'Once upon a time'. The next player begins with 'Once upon a time' and reiterates what the 1st player created before flipping over the card and if he is correct then draws the second card to add to the story. They can get through almost 20 cards and even beat mom and dad.

My sons received this game as a Christmas gift. My oldest brought it into his second grade classroom-- where it was so warmly received, we purchased a set for his teacher as a gift. Play is not limited to the directions enclosed-- the cards easily lend themselves to other sorts of storytelling games. It's a handy tool for getting creative juices flowing, as well as a good non-electronic way to pass the time at home on a rainy day.

I borrowed this for the library and now am buying our own set. What a wonderful way to foster creativity and humor!!! Such a simple idea that can do so much!!!! My 5YO son loves it. This will be great for car journeys.

I love this game! My daughter got it for her 4th birthday and it is a wonderful way for her to use her imagination. This is a game the whole family actually enjoys playing together. My one disappointment is that the rules ask each player to recited the entire story before adding to it with their next card. She got bored and frustrated with the repetition. I understand the purpose of this rule, and it was fine for a while, but it really slowed the game down and I could see her interest waning after 10 or 15 cards. She just wanted to bust out the creativity! We now play by just adding to the story, but will try following the intended rules when she gets a little older.

Although it's fairly simple, this is a great game for exercising a child's creativity. My daughter has enjoyed this game even though she as only 3yo when we first got it.

POSITIVE: the lunchbox bin is a great storage compartment & it makes for a nice traveling game. The child can also play by themselves & there's no reading required so a very young child can play it by him/herself or with as many others as he/she wants.

NEGATIVE: It doesn't seem to have the "varieties & options" factor that some other toys have to keep a child's interest (this is the only reason I refrained from giving it 5 stars)
