5.0 out of 5 stars #1 problem solver, January 13, 2005

This review is from: PORTER-CABLE 9741 Tiger Saw 9 Amp Reciprocating Saw with Variable Angle (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've had this for about a year. I've used it to demolish a few walls, a shed, knock out door casings and rip out conduit and duct work. Anytime there is wood nailed together that needs to be removed, this is my first choice of weapon. I've never found the 9 amp to be lacking for power. Blade changes are easy. Before I bought this, I wasn't sure how much I would actually use it. Now, a year later, I'm really glad I bought it because it has become my number one problem solver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovingly known as The Terror Saw, July 3, 2007
This review is from: PORTER-CABLE 9741 Tiger Saw 9 Amp Reciprocating Saw with Variable Angle (Tools & Home Improvement)
My Porter-Cable 9-amp Tiger Saw has a few miles on it now and has seen some hard times, but it's proven itself time and time again. Most recently, I pulled it off the shelf and slapped a heavy-duty metal-cutting blade into its grip and used it to cut up some old chain-link fence posts.

At first, I'd been using an old hacksaw because I wanted to see how hard the old fence posts really were (and I was too lazy to dig out the terror saw, the extension cords, blades, etc). Well, these were OLD fence posts, dating back to a time when men were men and fence posts were made of tough stuff.

I dug out the fence posts until I was down to their concrete footings and then cut the posts level with the cement. The PC Tiger Saw went through those old posts like the proverbial knife through butter. Each post was cut clean through in less than 15 seconds. The supporting bar (the pipe that runs along the top of the chain-link fabric) was severed into trash-size pieces in less than 10 seconds.

Speaking as a woman with not-so-much upper body strength, this saw has a real kick. If you don't press the shoe hard against whatever you're sawing, it'll jump back and bend the blade and punch you in the tummy. Ask me how I know this. :)

Other times, when I've sawn through something extra thick and extra tough, the vibrations in the saw are so extreme that I feared my heart had taken on a new rhythm.

It's also been used to cut through 2x4s in a hurry, prune apple trees (true story) and even sever active plumbing lines in an old house, hidden carefully within a wall. Well, okay, that last one was unintentional and created quite a mess, but this saw went through those wall studs and the hidden plumbing like Grant went through Richmond. Amazing!

Porter Cable has a well-deserved reputation and this particular saw has seen its share of abuse, but still works as good as the day it was purchased. I highly recommend it!
